Looks like we can add Ed Reed to the list of players that have duped the Texans into a big contract without ever playing up to it. Ahman Green, Eric Moulds, Matt Schaub, Phillip Buchanon, Gary Walker, Charlie Clemons. Overall the Texans have done a decent job acquiring veterans but this one really stings when they could have brought Quin back for the same money. Hopefully Swearinger is ready to step up...

if this team is has good has they think they are Regular season does not matter anymore

its all about what they do in the PLayoffs

But what a team does in the regular season tends to have an impact; like whether or not they get into the playoffs, and their playoff seed position. The regular season actually matters a lot. Especially the end of the regular season, as we saw last year.

If Reed can't play, they will miss Quin. Swearinger looks like he has potential, but he's a rookie, not Ed Reed.

Your Colts won 5 out of their last 6 and then lost in the Wildcard round to the Ravens who ended the regular season losing 4 of 5 games, so I'm confused by your point.
 
This entire PFT piece seems to be based on the following quote in a Chronicle article by McClain:

It's behind their pay wall, so I'm not going to bother linking to it, but I'm not sure what's different than yesterday, last week, last month, or the day we found out Reed had the surgery.

Good point.

If we're pushing for the #1 seed in December, why would we want to swap Reed for whoever's playing well at the safety spot?

I don't know what to think about Keo, but I think Brandon Harris may also be another option at safety if we get that far.

Sorry bud but as much "swagger" as reed has i think we will be in just as good of hands with DJ. Reed is a leader no doubt but a young fresh hard hitting safety will help us more as far as actual play goes IMO. So i feel fine about the regular season. I think reed was brought in to mainly make an impact in the play-offs, and i dont fully mean a impact on the field.

And Ed Reed is not the Ed Reed of a couple years ago.

Are rookies usually as good as first ballot Hall of Famers who were still effective in their most recent season? Not normally.

The fact that Reed has seen thousands of snaps and still played well last year most likely means that we won't be in just as good of hands with DJ, despite his impressive college highlight film. But, we'll see. I do like DJ.

No rookies arent usually as good as HOF, but according to you and when you talk about Andrew Luck it is more than possible :whip:

Duped ? You mean like when a team writes a multi-million dollar check and agrees to a new multi-year contract with a fourth round pick who ends up getting busted for murder a few months later ? That's duped. No man, nobody have duped the Texans.

Exactly! I said from the beginning that Reed won't probably want to be here at the start of camp anyway. He's made it known for a while he's not a fan of it. Mountain made out of a molehill.

Absolutely zero in this article is new. ZERO.

No one, even Reed exactly knows when he will be NFL ready to play. That is what he said when he met with media at end of OTAs.

Before he talked to media, there was speculation that he knew he needed surgery and hid it.

He specifically said he did not. That it was something that started bothering him more when he started working out, but it was something that he played through during the end of last season. He said he thinks it happened during the Patriots game, but played the whole Super Bowl with it.

As no one knows what was going on in his brainpan other than him, everybody else talking about this is speculating out of their respective behinds, whether it is a fan, media or other teams' sources.

What we actually do know is that this hip surgery was not as involved as the previous hip surgery he had. Reed confirmed that when he met with media.

Basically, this is a pageview story.
 
If DJ, Manning, Keo, Pleasant, and any other Safety on the team can pick Reed's brain, learn how the game is played, learn how to study film, and learn how to be a champion, then the money will be well spent, even if Reed only plays a few games this season. He's not the future of the team as far as playing goes, but he could be the future of the team as far as laying the foundation for younger players on the Texans (Not just at Safety either.) and how they play the game.
