NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the Bills are finalizing a deal with Kevin Kolb, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news on Kolb, who was released earlier this month by the Arizona Cardinals.
Rapoport reported Friday that Buffalo had reached out to Kolb and his agent Jeff Nalley to investigate where the six-year veteran was physically and mentally after two disappointing, injury-prone seasons in Arizona.
Kolb was reportedly on the radar of the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders. Rex Ryan's search for an adequate passer rages on, while the Raiders are mired in trade talks with the Seattle Seahawks for the rights to Matt Flynn.

Hopefully this and other moves would force QBs down in draft allowing a big offer for #27.

Kolb has had little success as a QB in the NFL, but on the other hand he seems to be racking up some real nice balances in his banking accounts as he signs deal after deal as he bounces around the league with different teams.

He's been behind two of the worst O-lines I've ever seen in that time, too... be interesting to see if he can do better at the Bills.

Now Kolb joins the Bills, who just lost their best o-lineman in free agency.

Any Kolb fans out there following him through OTAs & minicamp?

Looks like the Bills are stacking the deck a bit to make sure they have a QB going forward. They've got Kolb who showed a little somet'n somet'n, then they drafted Ej Manuel.....

Do you think this might be a situation like the Flynn/Wilson thing in Seattle?

I still think Kolb can be a decent starter in the league & I think Buffalo is on the move. Kolb should be able to get them along at least until Manuel is ready, maybe a year or two.

I think Kolb is officially on the "career backup" track now. If he's lucky and good enough to take advantage of the luck, he'll get a shot and do his best Kurt Warner impersonation. I'm betting on career backup, though.

I was actually thinking Jon Kitna. This will probably be his last starting job before he gets relegated to career back up.

Right now from what I've heard, the Bills haven't decided on the #1 but Kolb is taking almost all the reps with the 1s. BUT... he's having some problems. His deep balls are bad, he's holding the ball too long, and he's not decisive.

Manuel has the stronger arm and is more decisive. BUT. He's throwing too many interceptions.

At this point, I expect Kolb to start the season as the #1 but I don't expect him to finish the season as the #1. I expect him to be a career backup after this.

What kind of record would you like to see after 8 games to keep Kolb in the driver's seat?

I think a lot is going to depend on HOW they lose and how Manuel looks in TC and if he seems to be progressing with his limited #2 practices.

I expect them to try to rely on the running game as much as possible and go with a short WCO type of passing game from what I've been hearing. The problem is that I think teams are going to dare them to go long while Kolb is in there and I think they're going to be loading the box and crowding the receivers.

I think they need to win at least 3 for him to keep the job. The big problem is that three of their more winnable games (Jets, Browns, and Dolphins) are going to be on the road during that stretch and the game against the Panthers is their one winnable home game. If the Ravens shuffle falls apart, that might be another one they could poach.

I don't know if he's going to make it to the Chief game. He might be lucky, however, that their bye is so late. That might give him more time to prove himself.

Interesting take.

If I were running the Bills, it wouldn't be about wins or loses. I'd need to see two things before I'd send Manuel out there. 1. He has to be ready 2. The team has to be ready.

The Bills have got to come to terms with the fact that they are not very good. 14 - 34 over the last three years says as much. I know they're saying they're poised to win now, but bringing in Kevin Kolb to lead the team doesn't say "winner" to me. New GM, new coach, new coordinators, they'll have enough trouble getting "the right" players for their scheme.

In the meantime they need to make sure they are developing the talent they do have. They promoted their GM from inside so I have to believe they feel good about their talent. New Coaching staff says they expected better development of that talent.

I'd definitely expect a few wins over the first 8 games, but I'm primarily looking for improvement as the season goes on.

It's just preseason.... but so far it looks like the Bills' OLine is competent enough & Manuel is smart enough to not get hurt.

Kolb.... is bad enough that you're just wasting time with him.

Watch the second video it shows most of the pass plays (I want to say all, but I'm sure it's not) look at the routes the receivers are running, look at Kolb.... not thinking, no progression, just picks a guy & throws it to him, whether he's open or not.... like his mind is made up presnap. Then watch Emanuel... same routes, but he finds the open guy.

I was hoping Kolb would at least get a chance to play & show that he can be a starter in this league.. but heck, this is his third chance. He'll be lucky if he makes it to week 1 as the starter.

Sad news if it turns out to be the case.

The news on Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb, who left Saturday’s preseason game with a head injury, appears to be very bad.

Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reports that the Bills are concerned Kolb’s concussion may be career-ending, and they’re proceeding with that in mind.
