Reggie Bush

El Tejano

Hall of Fame
You guys keep up with salary cap more than I do so I'll let yall explain if he's an option or not at this point.

I saw Reggie Bush was scheduled to be released this offseason. I didn't want Bush before because he would've been the guy we built around back then. Now, I believe Bush is a good piece to the puzzle as I know he could help us on 3rd downs and returns but he's also now proven to be a legitimate running back although not every down.

Is it possible to get him and do you think it would be a good pick up?

May fit cap, but I wouldn't want him. He's not a ZBS runner, and we saw in Oakland what happens when you have an impatient quality running back in a ZBS scheme.

I don't think Bush adds much more than Forsett does.

Who or what are you referring too?

Darrin McFaddin is the starting RB on Oakland. He is a great RB, outside of injury, in the right scheme.

If you watched any of Oakland's games using the ZBS this year you saw him hitting "holes" too soon, running into the backs of his linemen, and overall blowing up plays before they can develop.

Arian, on the other hand, does not fire out of the blocks, has patience ... reads, one-cuts and goes.

I gotcha!

I just think we do alot of empty back field and Reggie gives us alot of threat in that aspect. But as someone said. Reggie wants to get paid and that aint gonna happen.

I guess I'm just remembering when it was 3rd and 7 and Schaub would throw a 4 yard pass or when we start out 4 wide and go 5 wide with Foster. Reggie Bush would really help keep our offense on the field in that aspect.

However, one thing I didn't think of that my co-worker said was how he and a guy like Foster would mesh. Pointing to how Foster is a little hard to understand and can be very competitive and Reggie can be kind of a prima donna. Would it make Arian hungrier or would it cause them to butt heads?

I don't think there's any doubt the guy can help our team. But there are three big reasons why he won't be a Texan.

1. He'll cost too much for a 3rd down back.
2. He wants to be a 3-down back, and I'm sure there will be a team that will give him that chance.
3. It's still a goal of his to lead the league in rushing. He'll never get that chance with the Texans.

Reggie wants to get paid....not gonna happen here.

What are his options? I doubt a team will break the bank for him. Not saying he'll sign for the vet minimum, but he's not going to get a "huge" contract.

He'll probably go to New England & win a Super Bowl.

I don't believe that McNair wanted anything to do with Reggie Bush then (following the revelation that he'd taken money from an agent while at USC) then and I doubt they want him now. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with that. Just saying that's what I think. Forsett is about all the runner they want to pay for in that third spot.

Coming out of college I wanted the Texans to take Bush and not Mario or Vince. Even then I had to admit that the one thing the Texans didn't want out of their running back was what Bush excelled at. No dancing, no changing direction, no deviating from the plan (for the most part). Bush was a runner who could create his own space in college and obviously that didn't work out as well in the NFL ("What? You mean everybody is fast now?") but he may have changed. I haven't really paid that much attention to him. I wouldn't mind him coming here but I don't think it's very likely.

Imo, we have several positions that need to be addressed this offseason. I don't think RB is very high on the list, if at all. We're already going to have to squeeze every ounce of cap money we can in order to re-sign our FAs and sign our draftees.

Too many other things to worry about other than one of the more productive positions omn the team. It'd be nice if Kubiak and Tate would kiss and make up, but that's for another subject
