Who will be the WTF pick this year?

eriadoc

Texan-American
Every other year it seems the Texans spend one of their first three picks on a guy that makes everyone collectively yell "WTF?!?!" at their TV. This is an odd year, so we probably won't have to see that, but just in case, who do you think that's going to be?

I don't really know what that WTF pick would be since we could use depth at every position...I could see us reaching for Montee Ball or another 2nd round back and saying we need depth behind Foster which I don't think would be a good idea at all...

It's not position based, but rather who they draft. The draftniks will all put out their top 5 and top 10 lists, and while they'll vary from one to another, there will emerge a general consensus on the top few guys at that position. Then the Texans will take a guy that no one ranked that highly. Both Kareem Jackson and Devier Posey were both taken in years that the team needed that position, but they passed over some much higher rated players to take them. And right or wrong, everyone questioned the move. I'm just wondering who that's going to be this year.

Eh , I mocked Posey to the Texans .... right where they picked him.

Hopefully you here the name Cooper Taylor in the 3-4th rd.

6'4 230 Lbs 4.5/4.6 40 Saftey Richmond, Cooper was 2nd team all ACC at GaTech before transfering to Richmond. He would be a perfect nickle S in the Texans defense. The Texans are in the nickle defense about 60% of the time.

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
The texans will select a tightend with their first 3 picks. With their 4th pick -the a compensatory selection for mario -they will draft a deep snapper.

Ohio State RT (and ex-TE) Reid Fragel. Actually, that's not WTF. It's pretty much a lock.

QB position has been, maybe always will be their Achilles heel. So logic suggests a continuation with next successor.

Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee

I would love to see Fragel be the Texans pick in the 4th rd.

That guy could be really good in a couple of yrs. Tough/Strong/Great feet. Just needs some experience.

We can only hope,

Mocks I've seen say he will be there in the 2nd rd when the Texans are picking. However I believe this will change after the Combine.

Right now .... I have no idea. After they bring in guy's for workouts .... we can throw sh!t at the wall and see if it sticks.

That would require an early pick , likely a first rounder ?..... I dont think they'd spend a pick on a QB before the 3rd.

I have a feeling they take a WR and an RT with their first two picks.

Im gonna stick with Da'Rick Rogers, WR - Tennessee Tech as their #1 pick. (Yes , thats a big jump up from where I had him mocked in the late 3rd).

I dont really believe they QB spot has been their achilles heel either .... Gary got a lot out of Schaub prior to the lisfranc and the defense let them down more often than not during those seasons.
You take away the starting QB from damn near any NFL team and they fall off significantly. Yes teams catch lightning in a bottle (Kaepernick or Tom Brady) but the examples of that are the exception not the rule.

Probably not the guy I want in the first round, dion Jordan.

For two years I've wanted that Olb Von miller, Bruce Irvin...but I'm happy we took watt...

They go into the combine/proday and price themselves out of our range...

I think jordan is going to kill in the explosiveness drills at the combine. But if I'm the texans I'd trade up to get him.

He'd improve this defense I'm every phase. Pass rush, run defense and coverage.

He's an athletic freak, but I read Jordan weighed only 225 LBS at the nd of the yr. This worries me, because the last thing the Texans need is an Aaron Maybin.

& so ****ing what if Schaub is an improvement? Did the Texans still invest wisely, did they receive impact player in return for dollars invested, did he take them to the Super Bowl or Conference Championship game?

sounds like, looks like & feels like achillies took another one :voodoo:

Both Barner and Jordan have come to Travelle Gaines' Athletic Gaines gym in West Hollywood to fill in the blanks. They're both preparing for next week's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., and working on specific aspects of their physique to accentuate the positive characteristics that showed up so frequently on their college tape -- especially in that specific All-Star environment.

Gaines has Jordan on an multi-meal-per-day plan, though the regimen is tightly controlled from a nutritional perspective. "As soon as we're done working out, he'll have a post-recovery shake, and a banana, and peanut butter," Gaines said on Tuesday morning from the field at Fairfax High School. "After his rehab session, he'll have snack number 2, which is a peanut butter protein shake. Then, Lunch A at noon, a workout at 1:30, and then he'll have Lunch B at 3:00. Post-workout recovery again, snack at 5:00 p.m., an 'A' at 6:00, and a 'B' at 8:00, and a peanut-butter protein shake at 10:00 p.m."
That may sound appealing to most foodies -- sportswriters in particular can get behind the whole "Lunch A and Lunch B" idea -- but as Gaines said, the plan here is to get Jordan up to 250 pounds by the scouting combine in late February without robbing him of any of the things -- specifically speed and explosiveness -- that make him special. Gaines said that Jordan has put on seven pounds since he arrived at the training facility, which puts him at 234, and the idea is to gain four pounds per week.
"I don't know how he played football at 226 pounds," Gaines told me. "But [increasing weight while retaining speed] is easy, because the stronger he gets, the faster he'll get. Right now, he's really lean, and we'll keep his lean muscle mass. He's not going to be bulky -- he'll still be fluid and he'll be faster than before, because he'll have more lean muscle, and he'll really be able to move."
Jordan has also added a specific MMA-related program with Jay Glazer and Chuck Liddell of MMA Athletics. Glazer, who has trained football players for years in MMA tactics when he's not breaking news for FOX Sports, started working with Gaines to help round out the skill sets of players at the NFL level. Helping draft prospects out -- especially players such as Jordan and Barner, who need help with on-field leverage -- is very much the same thing.

Probably some TE that Kubes is in love with.

Speaking of TE's did anyone else hear today that Rice TE Vance McDonald was so impressive some think he might be the first TE taken off the board? How epic would that be if Kubiak & Rick Smith selected another TE from Rice but this time in the first round, now that would be a WTF pick for sure :kitten:

And i actually like this. Even if wrong it at least reflects that the texans are doing their own research and rankings versus just following the herd or being the team that leaks it stuff to some of the draft niks.

to answer the general question, unable to answer this until April 15 or so because ther are dudes in the first round now that will "fall" into the 3rd or 4th and dudes that 3rd rounders who wind up in the mid first. At least by then the concensus will have developed.

A TE in the first would not be all that silly. Owen Daniels is a terrible blocker and hasnt really lit up the league in a while. A stud blocking/recieving TE could be a pretty darn big boost for this offense all the way around.

Would a cornerback in the first qualify as wtf?
Depends on who it is? If it's Milliner, Banks, or Poyer then no. I think we've got such a variety of need positions that the Texans will take the best player available at a position of need, and CB is one of those positions.

I would rather draft a TE first than a WR. IMO the TE would have more of an impact.

i have argued this a lot with a few other guys here. I even had a TE taken in the first in my mock, but now that posey has gone down i think i would prefer a WR, one that is a playmaker with YAC ability, patterson from Ten comes to mind

Not selecting a wideout, linebacker, or quarterback would all qualify as WTF!

Great article

A bigger faster stronger 250 Lbs Jordan wont be there at 27. But if he is picking Jordan is a no brainer.

Barner weighed in at 188 Lbs at the Sr Bowl. So I dont know how this program is working.
