Thanks for your support!
We could actually fit him under the cap this year if we wanted to. How would he do as a 3-4 DE? Can he play anything other than a wide 9?Eagles release Jason Babin. Will owe remaining balance of $5.6M salary, $1.64M, if he is not claimed on waivers.
He weighs 260ish. Doubt that's big enough.Holy crap! From chump to champ and back to chump.

Too small. We'd want to make him an OLB.... a WOLB which he didn't do to well at for us before. With Wade though....Holy crap! From chump to champ and back to chump.

It's probably a financial decision. If he gets picked up, they save 1.64 million in capspace this year, which can be rolled over into 2013. The season is over for them, so might as well start looking ahead to next year.Too small. We'd want to make him an OLB.... a WOLB which he didn't do to well at for us before. With Wade though....
interesting why they let him go.
It's also a sign of things to come for The Eagles. It's probably a financial decision. If he gets picked up, they save 1.64 million in capspace this year, which can be rolled over into 2013. The season is over for them, so might as well start looking ahead to next year.
I was reading Twitter and one guy who reports fantasy news and talks to NFL people said one personnel guy told him that most if his sacks last year were "cherry picked." I'm not sure how you can luckily cherry pick 18 sacks but that was the message.I keyed on him several times last night. Boy, what a difference a season makes. He simply looked lost on the field, like he really didn't care to be out there. There'd be times he looked to have his man beat then make a strange move that would take him completely out of the play. It was weird, like a chicken with it's head cut off kinda weird.
I'll say this: One pro personnel guy bashed Jason Babin up and down to me ... last year. After 18 sacks. Called him a cherry picker. FWIW...
Well given that their defense has taken a nose dive since firing Juan Castillo, I would think the "chicken with its head cut off" is an apt description for the team. That was a really stupid move on Reid's part this year, even more so than hiring the O-line coach as DC in the first place. In any case, I would chalk up the poor play to poor coaching and the turmoil in the organization this year. I think he'll go elsewhere and be much more productive. Rumors are Tampa, Detroit and Cincy could be interested, which would put him as a 4-3 DE pass rusher. That would probably fit his play style more so than a 3-4 like the Texans.I keyed on him several times last night. Boy, what a difference a season makes. Right now, I would love to get him back, but the trade deadline has passed. I can't see him going unclaimed if he was released right now. His remaining salary would be around 1.05 million for the rest of the season and the future years of of his contract are not be guaranteed. So there's just about no risk for a team to pick him up and keep him this year. Too bad, he would be perfect to have on our team right nowIf the Eagles let DeMeco go next we got to bring him back.
Yes but Michael Boulware was pretty beastly! :kubepalm:Didn't the Kubiak regime trade him to Seattle?
Babin, correct. They traded him for a safety (Boulware) who didn't work out either (just looked, I was wrong. Seattle kept him until 2008). I think both teams cut their respective players before the season even ended.Didn't the Kubiak regime trade him to Seattle?
Yeah, I thought it was a pretty stupid trade based on talent and potential, but it was hard to give much of a damn at the time. I think Kubiak just wanted him gone for other reasons and dealt him.Babin, correct. They traded him for a safety (Boulware) who didn't work out either (just looked, I was wrong. Babin had come back into camp lean though and was actually having what I thought was his best camp ever.

If memory serves me he said something along the lines of "You have to give up something to get something in this league and we decided with the depth at DE that Jason was the talent we had to give up in order to fill a need at Safety."At the time I remember some kind of BS comment from either Rick or Gary about trying to get help where we were thin and having to give up something where we we had depth. I felt like we traded a better player than some we kept. It kind of led me to believe that there was a reason they decided he wasn't going to be a Texan any longer. At various points in time when he's been out there the Texans haven't really been interested so that kind of makes me think they just don't want the guy which is fine I guess. I'm reading a lot into it but that's my impression.
Better against Titans than Patriots. imoI just hope we don't have to play against him this weekend ?
We will. The Titans are needy enough and bad enough to claim him and get him. No worries though. I imagine after this season in Philadelphia he's ready to shut it down and go to the house until training camp (wherever that may be). Unless he's picked up by a team that's rolling and headed to the playoffs I bet he goes full turtle for the rest of the year.I just hope we don't have to play against him this weekend ?
I spent about four hours with him one time. He was an ahole. I would not be surprised at all if Kubiak just wanted him gone.Yeah, I thought it was a pretty stupid trade based on talent and potential, but it was hard to give much of a damn at the time. Avert your eyes.I spent about four hours with him one time. He was an ahole. I would not be surprised at all if Kubiak just wanted him gone.
Ahhh, tribal tattoos, a timeless example of classy body artAvert your eyes.
/Babin tweeted this picture to show ESPN he should be in the "Body Issue." If there were the d-bag issue, he'd be a shoe in. Yuck.
If he's an ahole, why would you remain in his company for 4 hours ?I spent about four hours with him one time. He was an ahole. I would not be surprised at all if Kubiak just wanted him gone.
I don't know. Babin complained about playing in the 3-4 under Capers. And there was some bad blood between him and the Texans (especially their medical staff). Not sure if there is interest from either party. Can he play anything other than a wide 9?
I never met Babin, but I used to tailgate next to his family. Nice and fun loving bunch, especially his mom. Probably skips a generation.I spent about four hours with him one time. He was an ahole. I would not be surprised at all if Kubiak just wanted him gone.
I think it was in a professional capacity. If he's an ahole, why would you remain in his company for 4 hours ?
I don't doubt it. I met one of his best friends as well and he seemed distinctly uncomfortable with Babin's behavior.I never met Babin, but I used to tailgate next to his family. Nice and fun loving bunch, especially his mom. Probably skips a generation..
I doubt Babin would ever return to Houston to be on its roster, my recollection is that he's a prideful man and now a wealthy man who is bitter about missed opportunities and wasted years here.I don't know. If he clears waivers, we can get him for the vet minimum. He wouldn't help us. He'd cost the team money, around $1.something million dollars for his remaining salary he's due, he's a jerk, and he's no better than Barwin in terms of flashing potential and then going dark the rest of the time.
Babin was traded prior to the 2007 season. Kollar's first season with the Texans was 2009.If he clears waivers, we can get him for the vet minimum.
We've given plenty other players the benefit of the doubt & blamed coaching for our previous issues. Babin has managed to stay in the league a "long" time & has had some success.
With our current coaching staff, who knows?
But wasn't Kollar the DL coach when we released Babin? As an OLB he'd probably spend more time with Herring... so I don't know.
I & the staff probably have high expectations of Mercilus, so we'll probably wait it out for that reason alone.
Andrew Brandt says whatever team picks him up this year will take a $1.64 million CAP hit. Pretty sure that it means the new team gets a cap hit, I can't see why the league would hit the Eagles for $1.64 million if he's not on their roster anymore. If he clears waivers, we can get him for the vet minimum.

If claimed off waivers. I wouldn't doubt that some team will pick him up off waivers but now that the word is out that he quit on his team, they'd have to be pretty desperate. Maybe Buffalo. Maybe Tennessee. But they're done. Why would they spend anything on a player to help them finish with a losing record.Andrew Brandt says whatever team picks him up this year will take a $1.64 million CAP hit.
I don't see the Texans spending that for him.

$1.64M. RT @Wade_Harrison If claimed, what's the new team cap hit for Babin? Original 5.5 or 1.6 balance?
I heard earlier today that Babin said he wasn't going to play LB anymore and if he wasn't played as a DE he wasn't going to play in games....At the time I remember some kind of BS comment from either Rick or Gary about trying to get help where we were thin and having to give up something where we we had depth. Hugh Douglas, ESPN analyst/former Eagles DE on Jason Babin:A one trick pony who just got dumped by said pony. No thanks.
