Cowboys shown over Texans in Corpus Christi

All Pro
Get ready south Texas Texan fans. KZTV (CBS) is doing their yearly screw Texan fans broadcast. They choose to show the Cowboys every time they play at the same time as the Texans when they play an AFC team. What a slap in the face. The Cowboys could be 0-10 and it would still happen. When the cryboys play an afternoon game against an AFC team KZTV will cut off the Texans game no matter how much time is left and show the cryboys. I HATE the Cowboys! Always will.

Thanks for the link Stemp. Didn't know it was that widespread. What a joke.

Yeah... but like I said, if the Texans win a Super Bowl, I think they will make big strides in narrowing the gap in viewers and popularity.

I feel your pain. I've got my 2,000lb projectiles loaded up with 4 power bags each, ready to go. KEYE sucks. :D

I realize they are making the move that brings in the most viewers AND the Texans need to win more + the FO needs to market these markets (for once) while the iron is hot, but I still think it is in our best interest to voice our displeasure.

FIRE! :D

I contacted the Texans trying to get some sort of response and I got Nada, Zip, Zilch absolutely no response. KEYE responded with

I also agree, that in previous years Cowboys had a much bigger hold on the market, ratings from this year prove that more Austinites prefer to watch Dallas. An example of this is October 21, we had the Texans game at noon and Fox had a Cowboy game at noon. We pulled an 8.5 rating, Fox pulled a 13.7 rating.

I am sorry you are unhappy with us, but I do appreciate the feedback.

I hope you have a wonderful day,

Lisa

Do the Texans even have a PR and Media Relations Department?

This has nothing to do with PR or Media relations. Like I mentioned in another thread, it only has to do with ONE thing - the RATINGS. And as Lisa mentioned in her reply to you, the Cowboys pull higher ratings outside of Houston than the Texans do. It's not good, it's not bad, it's just the way it is. I'm also sure the games she was talking about were BAL@HOU on CBS vs DAL@CAR on Fox. The Texans game was much more of a high profile game, yet that broadcast got beaten out by the Cowboys.

Until the Texans expand their fan base and start beating the Cowboys in the ratings, this will happen EVERY TIME a TV stations is faced with the choice.

There is no need to get upset or too excited about it. Save your health and accept it for what it is - a business decision.

We here in Austin know the Texans front office has never set foot in Austin, so, this is where the front office has let us down.

If you don't wave the Texans flag once in the 10+ years of existence well, you are not going to add fanship.

Not saying the Texans would have had move viewers than the Cowboys even with the help, but when you sit 165 miles away from Reliant and can't get your 8-1 Texans on TV, tell me the Texans lack of interest in your close-by market doesn't spring to mind.

What do you think the PR and Media Relations departments do?

Texans winning and Cowboys sucking will do the job much faster. I see your point as to PR and Media Relations helping this process, but there is nothing they can do to get Sunday's game on TV.

Change "is" to "is/was" and you will be closer to understanding the Central Texans point of view. :)

Holy Crap, I'm getting The Texans Huddle on FSNSW! Cewl! Neat to see even Texans-related commercials only shown in Houston. :)

If you don't live in Houston, don't cry about not getting the game. Pony up the dough and get DirecTV's Sunday ticket for $200/year. It's worth it. Every game, every Sunday in vibrant HD color. Watch 10 games at once if you want. I can even watch the games on my phone since I got the Sunday Ticket App that comes free with the Sunday Ticket package.

I've lived out in Hawaii the last 6 years and managed to see just about every Texans game in live HD. This year we've also been getting the Texans Wrap on Fox sports southwest which is really nice.

If I can see every game out here, you can there too. Quit crying and being cheap and call DirecTV. It's worth it for us real fans.

I left DirecTV several years ago because everytime the weather went bad, so went the picture.......pixelated or blue screen. There was no solution and no compensation for the poor service. No way do I get blackmailed by the NFL back into DirecTV simply for the Sunday Ticket.........and I can afford it.

If you can afford the Sunday Ticket, consider yourself fortunate. But many very loyal fans especially during these hard times have more pressing needs to fill, like basic family needs.

I, too, welcome you to the board. But I would suggest that next time you think before you post, and reconsider your stance that money somehow separates some fans from you.......a true "real fan."

It's all about ratings folks. Here in Florida there are 3 teams. In Orlando the Bucs are the home team and (when not blacked out) tend to have priority. However being the only NFC team most of the time they have FOX all to themselves.

The issue here is with the Dolphins and Jags. Orlando is a LOT closer to Jax and is considered a secondary market for the Jags however they bump the Jags for the Dolphins every chance they get. Even though Miami is twice as far as Jax, the Dolphins have the biggest following in this state.

I can see Jags fans around here (if there are any, I think I have seen one around here since moving here) getting upset since Orlando is supposed to be a secondary market for them. However the Dolphins are pulling much better ratings.

Just be thankful the Texans were not thrown into the NFC when they came into the league or no one would be seeing them outside of Houston.

BTW, I have DTV and the Ticket for the Texans. I will say that they have really improved their equipment. I live in a tropical climate with crazy heavy rains and storms. We rarely lose signal unless it's really bad. IMO DTV has the best options for the sports fan (if one has the budget for the programming).

If not, and you still want to see a game that is not on locally there is always a seat in the "front row" ;). Been watching the Rockets from the "front row" this season.

I have to agree on DirecTV with you. IMO, it's the best TV package you can get. I live in an area where we can get snow 5 months out of the year, and even with that there are ways to counter the signal interference. I've never had a problem with rain or thunderstorms. And I don't know what I'd do without Sunday Ticket.

Here in Austin we get every game for free, this will in all likelihood be the only game they don't show. So I should fork over 200 dollars for one game? I'd much rather spend my $200 at the bar thank you very much.

Bryan/College Station has really taken to the Texans. Bars and restaurants up there have Texans gear all over and they show the Texans over the Cowgirls as a matter of course.

Maybe it is time to bang on the NFL instead of the local stations.
Anyone want to start a petition to the NFL, there should be no conflicts between the Texans and the cowboys when you factor in the prime time games the teams play in.
