My take on our draft this year...

I don't think there is nothing wrong with the Mercilus pick, but I keep coming back to the idea that if the Texans needed a pass rusher, why didn't we just spend the money and keep MW? That would have freed the us to use the 1st rd pick on another need or do sumthin more creative.

Now I know MW was expensive even tho he said 'it wasn't about the money' but there are times in the building of a team that u spend big to get big results. We are finally at the point of making a big run and made a move that screamed of remaining middle of the pack. Posey is an intriguing athlete with return ability, Brooks and Jones could be starters in fairly short time if the vets/coaches actually push them.

With the addition to signing UDFA QB Keenum is the best steal in the draft period. The fact he is supposedly undersized I will have to go with, have the media heard of Drew Brees?! With getting RB Meggett is surprising as well the Texans made sum good key picks that could help this team deep in the playoffs for the upcoming season. I can't wait until football season GO TEXANS!! :smiliedance:

One reason why we let Mario go that seems pretty obvious to me is that he really didn't want to be here anymore. I have a feeling that if we could have locked him up last year we would have.

We didn't have a choice with Mario unless we franchised him. He wanted to test free agency to see what he was worth and he was worth a lot more than we were able to spend because of the salary cap.

I hated to see Mario go but he didn't really want to stay here.

We had a pretty good defense without him, though. So I'm not worried about that. I think Mercilus is going to fit in really well with what Wade wants to do.

Overall, I really like our draft. The Posey pick is the only real WTF pick they made.

I'm glad we didn't re-sign MW. He is overrated and overpaid. Consistently good teams usually avoid overpaying overrated players. This is a sign that Houston is becoming one of those consistently good teams.:fans:

Keenum is going to be getting a lot of my attention in TC. I'm very interested in how his game is going to transition to the NFL.

Ah, Football!
When players say "it's not about the money"......it's always about the money.

Dunno what we offered him, but we would've been lucky to have come close to giving half of what he was paid.

I've been mowing your yard for years & you have been ok with my work. I then tell you I am going to charge 5 times more and you have to pay me whether I work or not. You decide you cannot afford that much. I go elsewhere.

If we signed Mario, There would be serious doubts as to whether we re-sign Barwin, Cushing, Brown & Schaub.

Who would you get rid of instead of Mario? As it was, we had to toss two good players. Who else did you want to toss in order to clear the cap space. We would have to consider jettising Shaub, OD, and Barwin.

I don't get why this is so hard for some people to grasp. It would be one thing if we outright released MW, but we didn't, his contract expired. He decided to test FA and he knew he was going to have a big pay day come.

Simply put the Texans didn't have, nor do i think, would have given him that amount if they had the cap room that Buffalo paid. Given the fact that this defense was the #2 overall WITHOUT him, why would you?

:deadhorse:

Ok... that said IF we did have MW what do you do with #26? Who do you select then? Personally, I would have jumped over the Steelers to get Decastro, but the FO might have gotten just as good an athlete and better value in the third nabbing Brooks.

Overall, I think the Texans got great VALUE in this draft. I don't think many expected Mercilus to be there at 26. Brooks was rated a second round talent by most. Posey is my only question mark as value goes, but in the end if he produces it doesn't really matter. I think nabbing Jones was great value and the player who I think will be an absolute steal is Crick.

To me the FO did a great job in hitting areas of concern. We needed to add talent to out WR corps and we did. We desperately needed to add talent and DEPTH to our OL and they did. We needed a kicker and from all accounts looks like nabbed the best rookie kicker. We needed to get someone to add depth and be able to rotate in at OLB and we got the nation's leading sack artist last year.

Even in our UDFA pool we got great value in Keenum, I will really be rooting for the guy to make the roster. While Meggett will be a long shot to make the team, they're still looking to add talent at the position behind Tate and Foster.

I also think the draft answered what this staff thinks about ILB, James is likely penciled in starter.

Hasn't this question been answered in at least a dozen other threads about 2 months ago. We didn't have enough money to sign Mario, plus he's getting older and gets injured alot.

Are you Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports? Becuase your opinion sounds similar to his:

There's nothing wrong with the Mercilus pick, but I keep coming back to the idea that if the Texans needed a pass rusher, why didn't they just spend the money and keep Mario Williams? That would have freed the team to use its first-round pick on another need or do something more creative. Williams was expensive, but there are times in the building of a team that you spend big to get big results. The Texans are finally at the point of making a big run and they made a move that screamed of remaining middle of the pack. There's a salary cap. You can't "spend big to win big" if that means going $10 mil over the cap. And that's what would have had to happen for us to re-sign Mario.

Working?

Those 2 aren't even close to the same. Imaxtexan fan said "I don't think there is nothing wrong with the Merciulus pick" and Jason Cole said "There's nothing wrong with the Mercilus pick."

One means "Theres something wrong" and one means "theres nothing wrong." Total opposites :D

Seriously though, I can't believe someone would plagirize yahoo sports though, haha. Unless of course he is Jason Cole, but why would you change up the text just enough?

Yeah , .... The Texans made him their best offer out of the gate Barfalo backed up the Brinks Truck for MW ..... /the end.

I think they had a great draft myself.

Got a guy in Mercilus at 26 that many had gone by 15.

Got a WR in Posey that if not for suspensions could have gone in the middle of round 1 in with the 4th pick in round 3.

Got a 350lb OL who runs a sub 5 40 .... and has the ability to play multiple positions and who's measurables are better than DeCastro taken by the Steelers in R1 ....

If Crick hadnt been injured , he likely would have gone no later than the second round and many had a first round grade on him pre-injury - they get him for a song with a 4th round pick.

Thats a hell of a draft in itself right there .... add in getting the best kicker in the draft and a waterbug PR to punt Jacoby out the door and I call that winning Charlie Sheen style .....
