This is just sad. Yes i know we are up against the cap already but damn so many subtractions and no additions. The Texans FO could atleast make them add Jacoby to the list, why stop now ?

I think you need to turn off all forms of communication until preseason begins...you're going to drive yourself insane...

I really dont play attention to what BSPN says about the Texans.....that comes from past comments they have made about our team. Take what they say with a grain of salt. In fact, take anything anyone nationally with a grain of salt.

Free agency is less than a week old. Premature thread.

Not only that but so far the division really hasn't added much to capitolize on Houston's cap troubles.. Basicly Jacksonville added a WR who can catch a cold and that's it. (Too bad they have a collasel bust at QB).

Unless Peyton decides to sign with Tenn, this is easily still Houston's division to lose. The Colts will stink to high heaven and the Jags still have jughead lining up under center.

They could've cut Jacoby and re-signed Briesel.

Even though RG is the easiest spot to replace on the OL.

Ellis, come on man!

Additions: Chris Myers, Arian Foster.

One was a UFA--Myers could have signed anywhere--and one was a RFA--Fotser could have hit free agency and received offer sheets from ANY of the 31 teams out there.

Despite the huge despair of losing Mario (overrated) and Briesel (will be replaced) and Allen (our part-time CB2) and Vickers (who dropped important passes in 2011, multiple times), we didn't lose Myers (our Pro Bowl center) and Foster (the best overall RB in the league today)...we signed them to our team. That's an ADDITION. Two of our own guys, quality players, who could have LEFT us ended up STAYING with us.

ESPN is ignorant. Signing your own free agents is adding them back to your roster when they could have left. Had Myers and Foster signed elsewhere, they are counted as a Texans subtraction...but since they chose to sign deals with the Texans they don't count as an addition???

yeah i know, i think BSPN meant NEW guys to the team and not old players who they are re signing. Oh well i dont care i actually think that the texans have done a great job so far with what we have to spend.

It still just made me laugh when i saw none.

I actually find it encouraging that all the players leaving us (short of Leinart) have already signed with other teams. For me it's a sign that we're a team with so much quality, that even when we, for one reason or another, can't keep them, they are still considered good enough players to actually sign with other teams.

I'm reminded by the Patriots, now if we could only start getting loads of compensatory picks... :)

it is quite a difference from earlier years when our released players were bagging groceries the following season. silver lining.

I agree completely , most of what we have seen sign are the top tier guy's who are getting pretty big money.
The next group of guy's are solid players who wont make as much while only aminor drop in talent. There will be some bargins out there with so many teams up against the cap , top talent gone while rosters are relatively full.

You dont hear a whole lot from any of the perenial playoff teams like Pitt , NE , Baltimore , NYG , GB or NO as far as FA signings go. These teams are waiting in the weeds for those bargins to fill out their rosters.

We were a muffed kickoff away from the SuperBowl. No need to bring it down. If we dont win it all this year the season is FAIL.

From the AFC Championship game, maybe, we still would have had to go out and win one more before the SB. Just keeping it reasonable here.

Heres the thing. Wade is the best defensive mind in the game imho, and Gary has to be top three on the offensive side, so whatever they are doing is because they feel they can win with what they are going to put on the field. Otherwise we would have seen a different approach to FA. I trust this team as it stands witht the leadership of Kubes and Wade. Smith ... the jury is still out for me, but if he listens to Wade and Gary I believe we will win. This year is time for Houston to win another championship. Believe it!

I started to reply with something like, "We should try to make the playoffs and see what happens from there."

But no.
Not just no, but hell no!

The time for those minimal expectations is gone.
We should, at a minimum, (1) defend our division championship, (2) get a first round bye, and (3) be one of the teams slugging it out in the AFC championship game.

Those are reasonable and achievable goals. We should expect to get at least two out of three. Winning the division and making it to the championship game is in the team's hands. The first round bye thing depends on how successful other teams are compared to us so that's not totally within our control.

Yep. Our division is now weak -- we should win it for the next few years. Expectations are appropriately high.

I am so sad and depressed & then I think about how ESPN blabberheads will be saying, "Yep, you heard it here first on ESPN that Texans made it to Super Bowl. "

Suddenly I am no longer sad.

I hear ya'....

They should have a category that says "retained" for a team's own fee agents that chose to stay with their team. That would make the list more respectable, but then again...like you said...that's not up BSPN's alley.

Actually, we were the ones signing the players we found bagging groceries.

I agree with you and Malloy...when other teams scoop up your FA/cuts right away, then you know things are finally getting better.
