So that's pre-Myers and pre-draft?

I still say numbers that low ($8.7M) have to be taking out the rookie pool for each team already and/or something else. How could we sign Myers for $6.25M/year and still sign our picks when our draft picks that stayed on our team had a cap hit of $5M+ for 2011?

We'd need a similar figure this year. I know we're picking lower, but still it will be over $4M. Myers couldn't be that heavily backloaded, and we're still likely to sign a couple UFAs (at least a kicker).

How could the Cardinals look for Manning at that level?

The figure probably assumed they would pay Kolb's bonus and salary because he was on their active roster. the Cards could have cut him if they'd signed Manning prior to paying the bonus.

I'd still think that's low. Supposedly Mario & our other 11 free agents were going to clear $30M of cap space. Before Thursday we signed Arian for $8M & a long snapper for what? a million? But cutting Winston, Leinart, & Vickers should have put us back at $30M then Andre's restructure should have put us back over $30M.

I did a quick total of the numbers listed on the Contract Status sticky thread on this board, estimating salary with bonus and came up with around $100 million give or take...that's before Myers.

After re-signing C Chris Myers, Texans are $4.2 mil under the cap.

There were also performance bonuses for players like Brown and McCain.

For a very rough estimate let's assume:
  • Vickers' release and Weeks' re-signing cancel each other out
  • Johnson (+4.5), Winston (+~4?), and Leinart (+~1?) should, at the least, cancel out Foster's cap hit (-8)
  • Myers' cap hit is +~7? and Brown and McCain's bonuses are +2
  • Losing Mario takes -18 off the books

That is an extremely rough estimate, but would leave us with ~$9M of cap room, plus or minus some.

So, the number in the OP should probably be accurate after the Myers re-signing.

Guys. That is after we signed him in 07. McClain is just a little behind. He will get Thursdays number by 2016.
