ESPN Removes Jaws from MNF

HOU-TEX

Ah, Football!
Geez, imo, Jaws was the better of the three. They're saying it's a promotion. MNF's going downhill fast imo. Gruden and Tirico? Pffft! Good grief

ESPN issued a press release on Wednesday entitled: “Ron Jaworski signs five-year extension for new, expanded multiplatform analyst role.”

They buried the lede.

Jaworski’s expanded role won’t include the job he’s most famous for: Monday Night Football. ESPN is moving to a two-man booth in 2012: Jon Gruden and Mike Tirico.

Jaws was the guy that gave you great insight. Now they are letting him go. What are they going to do now? Bring in Theisman? OH!!!!!

They're going with just Gruden and Tirico. I'm not sure which is worse. ESPN's a joke and MNF is right there with them for the ride.

Is it just me, or are there very few play-by-play/color commentators that are actually good?

I wish there was an option to select audio from home or away radio partners, a Fan Zone type deal, and then the ESPN crew.

Sunday night football has turned into more of the more marquee game over the years. I don't know if I'd rather the Texans play on Sunday nights than Monday nights. I liked Jaws too. He is his best on that NFL Matchup show he does with Hodge (I don't care much for Hodge though).

I am going to try and pump the radio feed in for audio, and just mute the TV.

I think this is more like "ESPN Promotes Jaworski, Removes Him From Painfully Bad MNF Obligations."

He might have decided if he was staying, he was done with the MNF gig. It's not that big of a deal anymore. Everybody's watching the new NBC show "Smash" on Monday nights now anyways.

He's going to be seen more than he used to on ESPN. Basically he traded in his color commentary job that always required him moving around the Country constantly to a studio job where he doesn't have so much travel.

MNF has sucked for a while now. ESPN as a whole is just getting worse and worse.

title is kinda misleading though true. removes seems a bit strong.

I like Jaws, but he has an inflection in his voice that annoys the crap out of me. It's that ending - the "EPSN lisp" - that he does with all his statements. It's really noticeable when he's in the booth. It's the way he ends his points, like he's been trained by the ESPN Broadcast School to mimic their corporate statement, because most of the reporters on the station do the same thing.

Just nitpicking on my part, though. I'd rather he stay with the MNF crew, because his absence will just make Gruden more of a QB-lusting egomaniac.

I wondered if it was just me but I guess not. Jaws knows his business as far as football goes but that voice inflection thing drives me up the wall. He only does it when he's calling the games and it's given me a rash since day one.

Best wishes for Jaws in his new role.

I don't mind this. Two man booth is better and I like Chucky more than Jaws. More entertaining on TV.

MNF had record low ratings late year, so I wonder if that had anything to do with this decision. Although I think the ratings may have more to do with the teams they chose rather than the announcing crew...there were some bad games this past season.

If the problem was Jaws, wouldn't they replace him instead of making him the odd-man out with a reduction to a 2-man team ? Chucky is the star and Trico is the play-by-play guy so they stay and
Jaws is just the unfortunate victim of some Producers concept for the shows new format.

For me. It is how Jaws speaks. In short. Sentences.

The old David Anderson parody video, that DA did of Jaws, is priceless. Searched YouTube and couldn't find it, though.

I have a neighbor. That talks. That way. As well.

I annoys the absolute crap out of me but has gotten to the point where even my kids joke about it. My 8 year old has a great time doing impressions of it and she does it pretty well.

I forgot about. The DA video. I need to show. To my wife.

I'm glad it's not just me! He's not so bad with that NFL show, but in the booth, it's clear on every point that he makes.

Yeah, you could tell Jaws and Chucky didn't mesh too well together.

And FWIW, I think Chucky is the best there is out there right now. I don't know how many times he's called the play before it happens, but he does it regularly. Dude knows him some football.

It's not just that.... though some people think Chucky displays too much man love, especially when it comes to QBs... but at least he has respect for the people that plays the game & he doesn't come across as a "mister know it all" or "Monday morning QB"

I remember once, Belichick made a decision the Jaws didn't agree with. He & Tirico were going off about what a bad decision it was & how it didn't make sense.

Chucky was like, "C'mon, that's Belichick. I'm sure he understands the situation as well as any of us do.. coaches make these decisions all the time, when they work, their geniuses, blah, blah, bla... "
