2012 Wish List.

#1 towering above all the other wishes... JACOBY JONES MUST GO!!! and not just because of the muffed punt. He is a terrible wide receiver. I have never liked him.

2. Take a wide receiver in the first round.

3. Take the best available corner or safety with the second pick.

4. Try to sign another large run stuffing DT.

5. Ship Mario to save cap space.

6. Keep everything else the same. Lock up as many players as possible.

This team really has potential to go all the way next year.

On the coaching front: Stay with Kubes and try to lock up Wade.

I'd like to see a new S&C coach. The injuries killed us this year. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it wouldn't hurt to get a new one.

We have a great O-line, but interior O-line can also improve.

ETA: New punter too, unless Hartman comes back. I don't want to see Turk in a Texans uniform anymore.

You make a point that is spot on. Mario tore his pec on a play that didn't look bad. Casey tore his pec also. Some of these injuries suggest that the S & C coach may not have it all together. Very good point.

Agree except, I think we should keep Mario.

On this one, I have been a big supporter of keeping Mario here on a long-term contract. After the way the defense finished the season, especially this game I still think he stays (Bob McNair loves him) but I will be ok with whatever decision the team makes. This does assume, however, that we get some serious compensation if he is not on the opening day roster. You cannot let a player that talented and valued around the league walk for nothing but a potential 3rd round compensatory pick. I don't care what the franchise tag number is, there is dead weight on this team that can be shed, there are contracts that can be reworked, etc. If Mario leaves you MUST get good compensation for him. I'm talking a top 10 pick and then something else.

How come every time guys get injured its always the strength and conditioning coach that catches hell? Cedric Smith has played large part in turning around this team's identity from a perceived finesse and "soft" team to one that can go toe to toe in the trenches with anyone. Blaming him for these freak injuries is beyond idiotic imo.

Get the Jabrony outta here.

Get a punter.

Get bubble wrap for the entire time and petition the NFL to let us play with it.

Get a WR. Someone. I don't care who or from where.

Get another corner so that we can roll with Allen and Kareem as #3 and #4 CBs.

Look to get some safety help.

LB and OL depth.

New training staff or conditioning coach if it's deemed necessary.

That's it for now, I guess.

I don't know much about prospects in this upcoming draft, but I'd rather get the big NT in the 2nd round.

KJ has proven to me that he can start in this league. I'm ok with Allen walking and Harris taking over his role.

I don't see a big need in taking a DB that high... but I'm ok with BPA after the 2nd round.

When you have a playmaker, you don't let him go. I hope we do everything we can to keep Mario... but if we can't, I won't think it's the end of the world.

Why are people saying safety help? Which safety are they not happy with? I thought both played well this season. Unless you simply want depth?

Get the **** rid of Jacoby Jones.

Sign Foster.

Keep Phillips as DC, or perhaps even promote him to assistent head coach to give him more money if that's what it takes.

Get the next AJ in the draft.

Last, but not least, sign Mario only if you can afford it. If not, trade him for picks. I'd rather keep him though if it's all the same. I think breaking the bank for Foster is justified, but not for Mario.

On the coaching front: Stay with Kubes and try to lock up Wade.

I'd like to see the following take place.

Part ways with Jacoby Jones as soon as it's practical to release him. We've all seen what happens when a player (in any sport really) has the collective fanbase turn on him. Jones is at that point here I think. It's time to part ways. If he's ever going to make anything of himself (and he isn't) then it won't happen here.

In free agency we need to look for a legitimate #2 WR. This WR can be older because he's a short term guy who will bridge the gap between AJ and the rookie we're going to take in the draft. Call that rookie "Future WR2"). In the draft we need to get that WR2 in either the first or the second round depending on how the picks fall and where the best value is.

We need to decide what kind of a future Kareem Jackson has here and whether Brandon Harris is going to pan out. The last time I saw a 2nd round pick disappear like Harris was Bennie Joppru with his magical series of season-ending injuries. What's going on with Harris? Is he the future? Do we need another CB in the 2012 draft? We seem loaded up with talent but are we?

Then I'd like to see if we could draft some more depth on the offensive line. I know we started the season with Butler already gone but Caldwell did not impress when he had to come in late in the year. We need more depth there.

I'd like to see us re-sign both Mario & Foster. I think that if the team wants to make it happen then it can get done. If we don't keep Mario I think we should make sure we get something for him. Letting him walk is not an option.

As I said I'd like to see Mario back because I think he could be really special in this system but if that's not possible I think we'll be fine. If we can keep drafting like we have been recently then we'll be able to keep reloading with players we can afford.

1. draft a #2 wr to compliment Andre
2. resign Mario Williams but if he wants too much money then let him walk because while he has potential, its seems that he is always injured
3. pay arian the money he deserves
4. release jacoby jones
5.sign depth at o line and maybe draft a nose tackle in the early rounds
6. as for cornerback, i think the texans are fine the way they are and would be ok if they let Allen walk. Mccain is a excellent nickel corner and Kareem has been playing better lately. He had a great game against the ravens today but their receivers just made outstanding catches. Harris could rotate in with Kareem and Carmicheal or Mcmanis could be 4th cornerback.

Cut Jacoby Jones
New kicker(I like Rackers but he's old and cant really kick 50+ yarders, okie st kicker would be nice)
Will Hartmann be the same? I think we should go away with Turk and give Hartmann a run for his job.
Sign Foster to a big contract
Franchise Mario
Draft Alshon Jefferey, if not Kendall Wright.
And most importantly of all, keep Wade in Houston.

Wouldn't mind a new giant NT either

The Texans need another starting CB and a couple more WRs. We need one that has speed and can make a big play for a TD. it is difficult to grind it all day long with no big plays. Just too many things come up penalty, turn over, etc to expect to be able to just drive it down the field all day long, even though the Texans did a good job of it. Walter is at best a 3rd or 4th wr. So really the only wr we had this year was AJ. I think we cannot depend soley on the draft to get a WR. They are interviewing Vernon Davis on TV, where can we find another one like him.

We need to pick up players that can come in and contribute maybe not next year but in a couple years. it is an ongoing process and all the other teams are improving also. if you just standstill with what you had last year you go backwards. The only position I feel somewhat comfortable in is RB and that could change in one instant.

Agree that Jacoby must go.
Buy why draft a CB of S in the second round? Didn't we just draft a CB in the 2nd last year?
Also why a S, it thought our safety play was pretty good this year, unless you're thinking of depth, but 2nd round is to early just for depth.

I also thought Kareem played pretty decent in the playoffs, today I noticed he turned to look for the ball a few times, ex. the one that Boldin made that spectacular catch on the sidelines. That was great coverage, just a better catch.

One more thing I would consider if I'm Rick Smith would be a trade for someone like Shane Lechler. Not sure how Oakland would feel about it but I would easily give up a 3rd rounder, probably a 2nd for him. Sounds crazy but with his leg backing up this defense I think we shave off 2-3 points per game. I know Hartman looked promising but even at his best he can't match Lechler and who knows after that injury.

From Oakland's perspective it makes sense because they have been giving away their draft picks for the last few years and really don't have a promising avenue to upgrade their team this offseason outside of free agency.

A legit #2 wide receiver and #2 corner. I'd rather sign a corner in free agency, someone who's established. I think it's easier for a wide receiver to get drafted and make an impact that it is for a cornerback.

I'd like to draft a WR and sign Early Doucet if possible. You can forget about one of the big gun WRs.

I'm with you on this. We have enough salary cap issues as it is.
I would pick Harry Douglas or maybe a Steve Smith (phi) to add to our WR corps.

You know what I'd REEEEALLY like... is a Vernon Davis/Rob Gronkowski/Aaron Hernandez beast-type TE to challenge Daniels and Dreessen for their spots. Any of them in the upcoming draft?

I agree that a WR is needed. Andre will be in his 10th year and is still a beast, but it would be nice to have a compliment to him.

What's the situation with Brandon Harris? Can he be the CB that we need opposite JoJo? He never seems to be active and I'm not sure if it's because he isn't getting it or if they didn't want to throw a rookie CB at the Lions again.

O-Line depth is always needed.

Get Foster a long term contract.

Get Wade Phillips a pay raise.

I could use a double beer holder on my seat.

I like OD and Dressen. We get a couple of receivers who can run routes you will find our TE's getting more open.

NE's TE's have Branch and Welker, and oh yeah that other guy Brady.

Dunno, not a college football fan at all.

I think we're fine at TE.

NE's TE's have Branch and Welker, and oh yeah that other guy Brady.

I like them too. But apparently they can't get open unless the play action suckers the defense. Gronk, Davis, and Hernandez can catch in traffic and, more importantly, run away from people. Neither OD nor Dreessen have that kind of speed.

And maybe Brady makes Gronk and Hernandez appear better than they really are but Vernon Davis is making Alex Smith look like a legit QB.

I'd swap him for O.D. straight up in a NY minute.

Tell me... in the biggest game of his Texans career, O.D. has TWO catches. Where WAS HE?
Now maybe that's on the rook; he did seem to be fixated on A.J. But still.... TWO catches??

I would take Jerome Simpson to replace Jacoby's role as Deep Threat/Speed Guy. Then Draft Dwight Jones with our first pick to groom behind AJ.

Sign Foster first, work out a deal with Mario, Use the leftover FA money on Myers.

Draft a solid interior lineman in Rounds 2 or 3 to be depth for our Oline.

Draft 1 more Monster to play DE behind Watt and Smith until Smith retires. (maybe a goal for next offseason)

Sign a dedicated Kick and Punt Returner

The rest is BPA with what we've got available

TJ looked like the rookie he is. He is what we thought he was.

It's hard to say what happened with OD today cus it didn't appear he was targeted.

My reactions to this thread so far....

1) Why do we need a 'giant' NT? Had the 4th ranked rush defense in the league this year and just held Ray Rice 60 yds on 21 carries in a road playoff game. So tired of this subject.

2) How can we trade Mario if he's a FA? Maybe you do a franchise and trade, but I don't see why we trade him if we sign him. You either sign him or he walks. There is no in between.

Now, my thoughts on the offseason....

1) Pay Foster. He's earned it.

2) Pay Mario if you can. If the finances don't work you have to let him go. We can work with Barwin and Reed although ideally we keep Mario.

3) Try to pay Myers. Not a long term deal, but 3 years should do fine.

4) Cut Jacoby Jones. It's time, he's done nothing his entire career and it's been obvious to everyone but Gary Kubiak. Give up on the project and move on.

5) Draft a WR in the first 2 rounds and get a return man out of this draft. We have seen how weak the WR position is at this point after Andre and we need a return guy if cutting Jones. We need a guy like Alshon Jeffrey in the 1st and T.Y. Hilton in the 4th. Or take Kendall Wright in the 1st, who can do both.

6) Need an interior lineman early in the draft (2-3). Caldwell was awful this year and we don't really have any backups that I trust. This is a must if we can't re-sign Myers!!!

7) Take a DB in the draft (4-5). We don't know who will return at Safety so we might need to reload there. If not, we should add a CB just because.

8) Stay out of the Free Agency Market!!! This team is solid across the board. All of the weaknesses can be solved with the draft. There is no reason to go out and overpay for someone.

9) Re-sign Dressen and Rackers.

10) Add a D-Lineman in the 4th-5th. There will be a quality player there to add to the rotation.

^^^ agree with everything except resigning Rackers. He missed a critical 50 yard field goal with the wind at his back and only made 84.2% of his field goals this year. I would rather draft a kicker in the 5-6th round and use the money saved not resigning Rackers on resigning Foster, Myers, or Williams

#1 Bye Bye Jacoby Jones.

2. Take a wide receiver in the first round.

3. Veteran CB

4. NO QUARTERBACK SNEAKS!!

5. Pay Foster.

6. Move Mario back to old position. Keep Brooks Reed out on the field.

I would really like to see us take care of our own FA's(my position on MW is well known by now), land a FA WR and draft for depth. We can just about draft BPA, regardless of position. Our only true need is at WR, but I would hate to see us reach for one. Besides, we'll be drafting 27-28. As we saw this season, it's hard to overestimate quality depth. across the board.

I think we could do better at TE though and with OD's recent play you have to wonder if he'll become a cap casualty as we try to lock up Foster and Mario. (not that he's been bad or anything close to it. Just that they could do better I think)

I mean we did draft that Graham guy who was supposed to be just like OD and we draft a TE nearly every year and I doubt Kubiak will be able to restrain himself and will get the go ahead after having so many defense picks last year.

And for me that is

*Drumroll please*

*CLANG!!*

Jerome Simpson WR from Cincinatti Bengals. Y'know, as long as he leaves behind his Pot. Although I doubt he does, but would like him to hold off on it till after his professional career.

Anyway, He's got the speed!!! He's got the hands!!!, He's got the hops!!! He's got that big play ability!!! Signing him will solidify the #2 spot, or at least have him competing with Walter. Either way he is a definite upgrade over JJ, and now that the fan base wants to torch and pitchfork him out of town, I believe he'll get cut. Signing him would give us a WR core consisting of AJ, Simpson, Walter, 2012#1 Draft Pick WR, and 5th guy. I don't know about you but I like that group.

First and foremost he'd have to prove to McNair that he can hold off the Ganja for awhile. Actually, first and foremost he has to pry himself away from Cinci, then hold off the pot, then we'd have to offer him enough money to steal him from other teams. If we go after him first though we might have a chance, as there are other big name WR free agents that should be targeted heavily at the beginning of the offseason.

So, thoughts?

I'd take Dwayne Bowe in a second as a FA .

1. the #1 need is WR or weapons in general .

2. Interior OL . That's this teams bread and butter and Smith and Caldwell aren't so hot .

3. CB

4. Upgrading depth all over .

I'd like to see what the price tag would be for Reggie Wayne, and then draft a young WR in the first couple of rounds to groom.

From Rotoworld:
Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden indicated in his season-ending press conference that impending free agent Jerome Simpson's consistency was an issue in his first year as a starter.

"Jerome had moments of greatness and moments of, 'what is going on?'" said Gruden. "We just need to have a lot more consistent group where Andy (Dalton) knows where everybody is going to be at all times." Simpson made highlight reels with a late-season touchdown flip, but finished seventh in the league in drops (9) while ranking just 30th in targets. There were few receivers less effective than Simpson in 2011. Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer has consistently predicted that Simpson won't be back with the Bengals.
I don't think so. And that's without even considering the weed situation.

I disagree about Rackers. He was 15th in FG percentage this year. You aren't going to draft a rookie K who will do better. It's also a weak year for K in the draft. There's not those 1 or 2 guys who you WANT to draft, despite being specialists.

He has a relatively high salary for a Kicker, but that figure will likely be lower if he re-signs.

1. Cut Jacoby Jones while your still in Baltimore, in fact there's no reason for him to even get on the plane home.
2. Draft a WR in the 1st round either Dwight Jones or Mohamed Sanu.
3. Let Mario walk and use the money saved to get another great CB.
4. Get another run stuffing DT in the draft.
5. 2nd round of the draft get a high quality OG
6. All the mid rounds of the draft should be used on depth at ILB, SS, O-line, RB, and P.
7. Lock up Wade Phillips long term.
8. Cut Matt Leinart.

The money saved with Mario walking and cutting Jacoby and Leinart should allow us to have a good FA.

Well at least his "great moments" came more often than JJs, and he won't be returning punts so he can't put those on the ground. As a straight up comparison to JJ, he's athletically similar but with a better in game track record.

Honestly I'd want Bowe, but I highly doubt we'll be in the mix for the top tier FA's. I fully expect we'll be able to sign Foster, Mario, and Myers. Especially since the first year in Marios contract will be dramatically cheaper then what we payed him this year, and I'm still expecting our #1 Pick to go towards our WR of the Future. Jerome Simpson would be a great middle man during the transition from AJ to Mr. First Round pick.

Look at the Cowboys right now with 3 amazing receivers, and how The Giants are pulling off something similar over there. I think Simpson is at the top of the speed section of the servicable FA WRs, so that's what makes him my target

50 receptions for 725 yards from Andy Dalton and sharing receptions with AJ Green, and Caldwell, and Gresham is pretty good if you ask me

1) Let Mario Walk
2) Sign Reggie Wayne to be WR2
3) Draft LB, NT, WR & CB depth
4) Cut Matt Leinart & Jacoby Jones
5) Get healthy for 2012

Free agent I hope we go after.

1a- Trade Jacoby for a half eaten sandwich and a flat warm coca cola
1b - Pay Foster
2 - #2 WR - Downfield threat...early in the draft
3 - Corner to compete with KJ - If he stays it will be put up or shut up year
4 - O Line depth

- I'm not up to date enough on cap space and free agency to take about what to do with Mario and who we might pick up.

I think Tagging Mario is a good idea, if he gets hurt again then we can part ways.

Number 2 cut Jacoby
Number 3 get a FA reciever.

Brett Hartmann will be back next year and he was a stud. Will probably still be a stud.

Harris and Carmichael are probably going to see more playing time in TC this year, which probably means if we pick up any DB's from the draft it'll be later, and probably guys who can do PR duties as well.

And for the first time like ever, I am fine with our Safeties and our depth at safety.
