Texans shown love on ESPN

Lady.Gaga.3000

Waterboy
For all the people who complain about not getting "recognition".

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/33153/first-take-talks-texans-ravens-spread

This video starts of with with the typical ESPN line of “(the Houston Texans) managed to survive the first round game against Cincinnati.”

They start discussing the line of 7.5 and discussing whether it is too high, too low, or just right. First guy doesn’t even sound like he knows what he’s talking about. Second guy starts talking about Flacco. He does say “Texans defense hunts” and gives props to the linebackers.

Then, of all the people, Skip Bayless shows the Houston Texans some love:

“The Texans have won me over. Been a doubter all year long. Because that team continues to display through lots of big injures: Mario, obviously Schaub, for a long time Andre Johnson gone. They showed a backbone and a character and guts that the other team in Texas never displayed all year. This team could of quit and never quit. And it got a little better and a little better and that defense isn’t the Ravens defense, but I got to tell you, it’s on the next level, just one level down, just one notch. It’s really good. And Wade Phillips has done a really good job with it. And listen, Arian Foster…he can carry that mantle too. And I think he is going to carry it a lot against that defense. And the Texans offensive line, I’m not sure it isn’t the best in football. Seriously, they don’t get a lot of accolades…I know New Orleans is really good. But as a unit, the way they road-grade people, they are really good. And the Ravens are going to have a hard time with this. I see a low-scoring game.”

We're mad about bandwagon analysts after we complained about not getting recognition?

You know at this point I just might be. I wish our players and our owner could just get outlandish and say "**** you!!!" ESPN. And I mean literally.

I'd love for Bob and our players to ignore any ESPN anchor and send a public message to ESPN saying that they don't want to be on their dog and pony show network and stick it where the sun don't shine. Literally shut ESPN out of anything that has to do with them.

Now I know that is a pipe dream and very unrealistic, but man **** those guys at ESPN. If the Texans were to win a SB, Id' want to see the coverage on them, but then again after being snubbed so badly by ESPN all season long after such a cool season we've had, it would be nice to see a team franchise embarrass and trash ESPN publicly and snub them back.

A.B.B. --- Anyone but Bayless.

Been saying it for a while, the whole "no respect for the Texans by the media" has been overblown. All the major sports stations has been giving us respect due to our resilency. The fact is, when your an underachieving franchise for years and then you start winning, its going to take a while for the media to hop on aboard. And last of all, who cares about the attention, it about winning football games.

I was fine with that for years and carried that same sentiment. However this was a miraculous season for us and we carried the #1 seed or was tied for it for a while this season even after all of the injuries and with Yates at QB. THAT WAS A GREAT STORY. It was a much better story than the Tebow crap which was a good story, but not on the level of what the Texans did this season especially with it being their first playoff birth in their history as a franchise.

It didn't happen just to us though. The 49ers got completely snubbed as well.

If TebowMania wasn't sweeping the media, I'd say you knew what you were talking about. As it stands.... nope.

I have complained about BSPN in the past. It is what it is.
I do think the line of 7 plus is too high myself and agree with Bayless.
I was surprised they had JJWatt on NFL32 yesterday and Andre Ware talking about the Texans on Mike and Mike this morning....so we are getting more talk....I cant believe it.....
Imagine next week if we win....lol

Getting caught up in media is what people who have inferiority complexes do. I would hate for our team to give even the slightest of acknowledgment to "no media coverage". Loser's mentality.

Who. Gives. A. ****.

I know you're not going to like me for this, but I have to point something out to you.

The link you supplied, it's to the AFC South blog. Kuharsky writes on the Texans nearly every day, all week long, all year long. If this was your way of showing how ESPN is exhibiting "love" then you picked a poor example, seeing as how Kuharsky writes about the Texans every day.

I think the things people want to see from the media is all the "cover story" type articles and TV pieces like they do on the Jets or on Tebow, etc.

Even Kuharsky, who is a bit of a Titans homer since he wrote for a Nashville paper before becoming the ESPN AFC South blogger, is saying that the 2011 Texans and all they've been through is not being celebrated by the media as much as it should be.

Your title is fine. Your link and the quoted material is great. But to start off the thread by telling people "For all the people who complain about not getting 'recognition'..." is snarky and, once again, lecturing people who have been around for 10 years and don't need a finger wagged at them over something like this.

All I want is equal coverage. I was in Mexico last week, missed the game, didn't even get to set my DVR, I haven't seen so much as a highlight until I caught today's Sound FX on NFLN.

They talked about the Falcons losing for two days & I saw nothing about the Texans on a 24/7 NFL chanel

MJD picks Houston to beat Ravens on 'inside the nfl' Collinsworth et al all think it's a no brainer for the ravens.

Jones-Drew made a coherent and respectful argument in favor of our running game. Ironic that it takes a perennial foe to give us a chance, whereas the 'neutral' talking heads of espn, nfl network and showtime all continue to disrespect and dismiss us.

Wait. So you seriously missed the first playoff game and haven't seen a reair of it and you haven't downloaded it and you don't really know what happened besides the fact that we won?

I don't know why everyone doesn't like to have that guy saying good things about the texans....

But I have to admit, when I was watching the video and he was talking he gave me a strange vibe...

The "special boy" kind of vibe...

Don't know if you get what I mean...

"Retard" is too much strong a word, but that's the direction...

although NO OFFENSE INTENDED I don't know the guy, and I don't mean to be rude... just watch the video and I think you'll understand

It would come as No Surprise that Skip Bayless is on the Texans bandwagon this week. He is so anti-Ravens it isn't funny. He would pick your local high school team to beat us! LOL

Yup only because his Dallas Cowgirls didn't make the playoffs...

Would rather sandpaper the ass of an alligator in a phone booth rather than listen to Skip Bayless.....

Who. Gives. A. ****.

Man, I'm agreeing with you again!!

Fuq these hoes on ESPN. Let them continue to chug the chowder out of Tebow's junk.

I watch First Take every single day from 11-12 when I am at home on lunch so I saw Skip give his short appreciation earlier and I posted that in another thread, but other than that, you barely hear anything.

Here's there line up every day...will probably be the same today....

Tebow
More Tebow
LeBron
Tebow
Giants, Packers or Saints.....mayyyyyyybe Patriots since they play Tebow
More Tebow

The Texans story is straight out of a movie but Tebow is all they care about.

Don't forget, they'll mix in some Yankees, Red Sox talk.

I think some people don't get what fans are complaining about.. Most Texans fans aren't complaining that no one in the media respects their story and how they got to this point, or that no one has anything good to say about them and no one ever picks them to win...most fans are complaining about the amount of coverage...

When the Texans clinched the division in Cincy on that awesome two-minute drill drive and last second TD, they showed like two plays in the highlights... But we saw about 30 from Tebow, good and bad... Top 10 plays? You'd think TJ hooking up with WalterS would have made it, but it didn't... Mostly it's the coverage most fans that complain are complaining about...

Me personally, I'm not that bothered by it, but I'd still like to see more national coverage because I'm a fan! Being a fan isn't just about watching the games, it's about indulging in everything "Your Team"... You want the games, the merch, the highlights and to see the national media cover your team, esspecially when they just went 80 yards in two minutes with a rookie QB making his second start, to win a 7th straight game and clinch the first ever playoff appearance for the franchise... So quit being hardasses and understand: these people are being fans...

Kuharsky blog that is linked in the OP is nothing more than a link to ESPN's First Take, a show on ESPN. Kuharsky was just posting the link in his blog. So I don't follow. Did you click on the link on the blog? It's a nationally aired program.

I think you may have softened my heart there a little, and I felt a tear well up in my eye. Haha, I get why people are upset, but I don't think they should let it upset them. I can come here to Ttalk for highlights, fan perspective, I got merchandise, thanks to little 7 y/o Chinese kids. When it comes down to it, Go Texans!! no matter who's rooting! It's fun now, but I think people are forward thinking. Nothing irritates me more than when someone I KNOW for a fact was rooting for another squad, then becomes a fan of the Texans, then the Texans lose, and they talk trash about how "my team" sucks. Um, weren't you just rooting with me 2 months ago? That's, I believe, what irritates people. That and most of my posts! lol:

Actually, you'd have very good chance against the alligator in a phone booth because it wouldn't be able to operate in open space. Just stay away from the other end during the "smoothing" process....

You left out all the Jets and Cowboys coverage. Even though THEY'RE NOT IN THE ****ING PLAYOFFS. They're not even playing and they get talked about nonstop.

It's because we're not flashy. We don't have a ridiculous owner, a loudmouth coach, or a player that's been to jail or suspended this season. Let's just keep quietly winning. Now, Kyle Lowry on the Rox just got arrested a bit ago in LV for Assault right after the west coast road trip. Maybe they'll talk about that!!

See, thing is, do you really want the Texans on the news because our QB is married to a super model, or one of our WR's just shot himself in the foot? Or because our coach is a loudmouth idiot. I mean, I wouldn't mind more covereage on Arian and his Poetry. Andre and all the stuff he does for the community, Meco too. Unfortunately, the world no longer cares about good sumeritans, and studied intelligent people. They care about adversity, chaos and disrespect. Feed me, Seymour, feed me. Like little shop of horrors, the plant wanted to eat the bad folks, well people now just want the crappy news.

Is that really true though? I don't think so, that's why I don't watch the news, or that Jersey Shore crap or ESPN. I create my own news. I come to Texans talk and read the Articles that Texans fans have sifted through about my team, the videos they have posted and I'm good with that. I could care less what some "analyst" thinks about my Texans.

I know my Texans, and it's because of places llike Texanstalk that I know them even better. All the idiots that thought we were going to lay an egg against the Bengals... come on man. No Dre, No Brisiel for the losing streak, no Wade Phillips, I know better. Brisiel makes a hell of a difference on that line don't he??! I told em. Let's go into B'more and shock the nation. They won't even see it coming.

Say the Texans win and the Broncos lose.....it will still be non stop Tebowing on ESPN. It won't just end like that.

I agree, they have become TMZ and they know fans are tired of it so they even say now flat out on Sports Center to "deal with it" as they put on more Tebow coverage.

Complete joke.

I explained the Tebow thing somewhere. Remember when he was in the Natl Chip and they kept touting him as the next great thing, NFL ready in fact?? Wellllll, he wasn't so NFL ready, in fact last year, he wasn't even practice squad ready. The talking heads felt that they were let down, but they were silent...they waited, then, all of a sudden, BAM! We was right yo! Tebow's da man! woot woot. In all reality, Tebow may turn out to be a decent to above average QB. I think the thing about Tebow, is that his very public Christianity, which I admire in a Christian, has kind of awoke many within the nation, and they want to hear more. Kind of a, "What can God do for Tebow". "Can that change my life, or even America?"

You have to understand the context of human thought and emotion. Now, does God really care about the outcome of a football game, maybe, maybe not. But that is why America is tuning in, that is why they are reporting it. People want hope in a country that is going downhill fast. That's why we lose ourselves in football, in some other activity. This way, we don't have to think about what's going on with the government taking more and more rights away by the day. How many folks have relatives and friends over seas. There is a lot going on, So God and Tebow are a big story. So what? Why is that so important in your life. Are you more mad about the Texans not being shown, or the fact that every time you turn around, a man that symbolizes God is being thrown in your face, and somewhere, from the bottom of your soul, it makes you feel guilty, or angry because of that. I don't know, I'm not a licensed professional, but I thought I'd take a stab at it.

I was being very general here too, not necessarily attacking you Htown2ATX

How is saying we cover a 7 and a half point spread giving us respect?
Especially since not even all 3 of them picked us.

Also, watching NFL live right now and they have covered every team but the Texans, it said Texans /Ravens game but all they talk about is Ray Rice/Flaco/Lewis.

One of the Anchors addressed this very candidly. The Tebow Steelers game had the highest rating of any play-off game in quite some time. Their ratings are going up the more they talk about Tebow... heaven forbid (no pun intended) if they announce a Tebow program or that they'll be talking about Tebow after the break...

DVRs get loaded up, viewers tune in, & advertising demand goes up.

This won't be over until the Broncos can him & Tebow is out of the league... heck, I guarantee you if someone doesn't pick him up, ESPN or NFLN will.
