Rackers

He has been pretty bad on 40+ recently.

6/10 after that missed FG in the last 5 games including today.

looks to me like he's "aiming it". much like you hear with pitchers aiming instead of throwing (making the targeting problem worse), it looks like rackers is in a bit of a slump and is trying to place the ball instead of his more natural swing. he's got such a low roundhouse that it's hard for me to critique his mechanics, but i think it's more of a mental thing - he's just got to keep swinging.

He's in too much of a hurry to get into "hitting posture."

In that pic it looks like he's a dancer on Broadway, lol.

Yeah, its gotten to the point now to where I have serious doubt when he lines up to kick a FG.

Man Popeye needs to stop surfing the net late at night while Olive oyl is asleep or start working his biceps at least.

Didn't Rackers get the boot from Arizona earlier in the same season we ditched Brown and for the same reason?

Have to get another kicker.

I think I'll kill myself if we lose a playoff game because this guy can't kick FGs anymore.

I wanted us to spend a late rounder on a kicker so that, at worse, he had some competition by a DRAFT PICK (thinking he knew he had to start kicking the hell out of the ball if they went as far as to draft a kicker). Everyone laughed at that idea and gave all these stats of how well he has kicked. However, noone has looked at the kicks when they mattered. He has made some good kicks for us yes but there are alot of game changing misses too.

I really want to see a new kicker in camp next year, and damn...I hope Hartmann comes back alright. Aside from being a casual CMU fan (my wife went there, heh), he seemed like he was doing quite well, was young and could stick around for a long while, etc. Sucks to lose him like that.

It looks like he has been chili-dipping his kicks. I frequently do the same thing with my wedge in the rough near the green.

IIRC, he did something similar in Arizona. He started off having a few great season's then fell off at the end. A few really bad misses in important games got him cut. I think that's how it went. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I sat directly behind the goal post, second row, when I recorded his FG miss:

At halftime, he came out and did some practice kicks. He appeared to be struggling with accuracy, as they weren't exactly down the middle. The next FG he made could have easily bounced off the upright if it hadn't been so high, but I was watching the ref, who was immediately confident in his call.

I hope Rackers gets things figured out, because he's been one of my favorite kickers even before he was a Texan. Unfortunately, this seems like a pattern with him.

Good luck, Neil.

Yeah I think you are right. If I remember correctly the Cardinal faithful were ready to see him go. I even remember thinking him and Kris pulled the same sort of act in that they both lost it and lost it fast. For a while there, everytime he booted one through I was a little surprised.
