Is Tate injured or what?

Does anyone else think Kubiak should've went more with Tate in the Jags game today? Was Tate hurt? He only got 5 carries and averaged over 5 yards a pop. Foster obviously wasn't very effective today.

Make that 3 of us.

I didn't have much of a problem with running the ball - I had a problem with not changing out running backs. The way players are dropping like the proverbial fly - maybe he is hurt also.

But would Tate have mattered? I'd wager most of the reason Foster wasn't effective in the second half is because everyone on the Jax defense knew he was going to get the ball. If it were Tate in there instead of Foster, I think they'd still know the run was coming.

I'm guessing he's hurt. We really could have used that change of pace when the Jags has Fosters' number.

I told my friend that Tate's second half fumbilitis in a couple of games was keeping him on the sidelines. Kubiak wanted to escape with a win and trusts Foster more in holding on to the ball despite fumbling it twice this game

Tate is a more physical runner than Foster and tends to get more yards after contact. Platooning them would've at least kept Foster from taking such a beating. Foster will be hot-tubbing with Leinart after he gets out of the ice.

Probably injured. Normally he gets ~15 carries.

It just doesn't stop. This team will keep on getting more and more injuries until theres barely anyone left

So we protected the lead by playing the RB that gave them 7 points in the first few minutes? :)

I thought Tate looked like the better runner today.

I agree. But you could tell ball security was all that matter to Kubes with that 10 point lead against an anemic offense. I was advocating for more Tate, but that's my belief why we weren't seeing him. This game and the game plan went down the toilet when Leinart got injured.

I don't think he was hurt. Foster only rushed 22 times today. The running game just wasn't as successful today as we're used to.

And Foster was chewing up more clock than yards. We needed 1st downs as badly as we needed to run down the clock. The effort we saw today won't cut it against either the Bengals or the Falcons. Both are very good against the run.

I think Kubiak was already looking for a reason to go "turtle" before Leinart went down. After he was hurt you just knew he was going to try to make it to the end with his ten point lead. I get why that's the more sensible approach but I think he dialed it a little too far down and guaranteed that Yates would see some 3rd and long situations by doing that.

I hope he's planning on doing something else next week because we aren't going to beat anyone the rest of the year running Arian Foster like we did today with no passing threat at all.

I completely agree with everything you said, but what about Tate? He disappeared for no apparant reason. Why go with a 1 headed turtle when you have a Godzilla like 2 headed turtle? Tate had better success in his limited carries and runs more downhill than Foster.

I hate Kubiak as a head coach. His schemes are among the best in the league and he gets a lot of offense out of less than premium talent. But the man has no feel for the flow of the game. He screws up things like time management and challenge calls all the time, of course. We complain about that all the time, but the complaints about being too conservative are often inaccurately expressed, IMO. It's not that he's too conservative, though he can be at times. It's that he doesn't have a feel for the ebb and flow of the game, I think. Today, Foster was off. It happens to the best of them. That's when you get Tate in there. Don't abandon Foster, but start upping Tate's carries and changing up the play calls. Once Leinart went down, Tate should have been alternating a lot more regularly to keep the defense off balance. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see both of them in there at the same time, but I know that's not in Kubiak's playbook.

Foster should have seen a lot more sideline time, especially after the second fumble.

Why didn't Tate see the field after early in the 3rd quarter? He was the more effective running back today. Either he was injured and nobody knew to ask about it or Kubiak got so conservative late in the game that his poor heart couldn't take the thought of a 2nd year running back getting the ball instead of a 3rd year back. My guess is that Kubiak will make some comments tomorrow about correcting the running back rotation from Sunday.

If Tate is injured... man, that would really be a little too much!

By the way, I am very concerned about AJ. He did not look good... No explosiveness. Hopefully, he's just a little atrophied and out of shape. But, piecing the CnD posts on his surgery and the performance today can lead one to some unhappy conclusions.

That's the question we're all asking. As usual, you're behind the times. LOL

From my small computer screen, I couldn't see AJ very well, so I have no input as to why he didn't look better. Maybe Jax doubled him so much that they dared us to beat them any other way. If so, mission accomplished.

They doubled him at least some of the time, but when healthy that wouldn't have stopped him.

I was telling Kubes to put in Tate as well. Unfortunately he couldn't hear me through the television.

As for AJ, I would chalk it up to the first game back. He has to get back in shape and test that leg at game speed.

From Rotoworld. I know, it's their fantasy section, but........

Ben Tate carried the rock just five times for 26 yards in the Texans' Week 12 win over Jacksonville.

Coach Gary Kubiak told the CBS crew before the game that the Texans intended to get Tate "12 to 15 carries," but game flow didn't allow for it. With Matt Leinart injured in the second quarter and the offense moving slowly throughout, Arian Foster wound up with 29 touches and Tate only had five. Expect a few more opportunities against the Falcons in Week 13, but Atlanta's tough run defense will render Tate a low-end flex option only. He needs the Texans to blow out opponents in order to be a worthwhile fantasy play.

That just doesn't make sense to me. I agree with everyone else, Tate is a different runner than Arian & at times is the better match up. Unless we were going to be throwing the ball to Foster out of the backfield, Tate should have got more touches.

Was he the better or more effective runner yesterday? I don't know about that. But he is & will always be a more punishing runner.

Use that to your advantage. They're stacking the box, Tate might not get a yard or two, but at least you pop someone in the mouth.

In the second half, outside of a couple of passes to AJ, it seemed the only passes TJ made were swing passes to Foster.

I think he's fine. Seems like a game planning issue to me. I'd be more concerned if Ward got carries in the second half and Tate got none.

On a related note, Barwin seemed to come off gimpy after he chased Gabbert out of bounds on a play in the third quarter and I saw a lot of Braman after that. I did see Barwin back in several series later, but I was worried for a while. Did anyone else notice this?

I noticed a lot of Nading & Brahman in the second half.

Thought I saw more of them than I wanted. When McCown was cruising downfield, it was on Brahman & Nading.

I believe Tate may have been the better option this game to run the clock while at the same time grinding the ball up field.

Depends on the game. When we hosted Jacksonville earlier this year, Tate only got 5 carries. And BTW, it took Foster 33 carries to get to 112 yds. Jacksonville plays the run very tough.

FYI, Jacksonville has the #15 run defense (before Sunday anyway).

Atlanta has the #2 run defense, Cincy has the #3 run defense.

Just saying.

Correction: Atlanta is still #2, Cincy is now #5, We have moved into the #4 spot behind Baltimore

Cincy must have had a bad day if we allowed MJD to run for 100 yards & still moved up.

On AJ's first reception of the game (From Yates) there were 4 defenders around him. Yates put it into a small window ..... right on the money.

Just over the LB, Just in front of the secondary.... perfect.

That was a pro throw, no doubt about it.

Yeah, I was pretty mad he didn't get any carries after early in the third. Hell, he didn't even touch the field after the 2nd series in the 2nd half.

It was just an off-game in my opinion. I wouldn't look much into it.
What? How can you get an "off" game from 5 rushes? 5 rushes are closer to a non game than an off game.Hopefully, Kubes learned something from it.

He did. In his Monday 610 radio show Kubiak was asked why Tate didn't play more and he admitted he should have played Tate more. He knows he screwed up.
