BYU gets an official invite to join Big XII?

Queue the Longhorns claiming this is a better program than A&M...



On a side note, BYU and Utah are lame cause most of their players spent 2 years off on a mission, which means they are much older than most other teams.

Add BYU, add TCU gets out of BigEast commitment due to their impending conference implosion, and add Boise State. You are back to a Big 12, with TCU replacing A&M and BYU replacing Colorado and Boise replacing Nebraska.

Personally, I feel Texas needs to go to Pac12. ESPN will be more than happy to buy out that LHN contract that is costing them money and credibility more and more every day. From the ashes of that deal, you then negotiate a Pac12 Conference Channel where everyone gets the same money from said channel. Equal revenue on TV contract and allow Texas to self market their university's merchandise as they do currently. Texas gets to keep a cash cow (merchandise) and play in a real conference that will be the first 16 team Super conference in football.

The Big12 could be screwed in this theoretical 4 16-team conferences. Big 10 isn't going to get left out in cold. ACC has now probably at least equalled Big12 in football. SEC and Pac12 are shoo-ins. Big East is already screwed, I wouldn't want the horns to be in the conference next in line to get screwed. And based on how all the teams in this conference have behaved, this conference deserves to get screwed in the end.

But if it has to be saved, add 3 teams with an eye on 4 more before ACC lines all their ducks in a row. Go after Notre Dame hard, Louisville, Miami, and maybe a Colorado State or West Virginia.
 
As I've said before, I think all this super conference talk is nonsense. I don't think things are moving in that direction. Things will start to settle down after the first moves are made. We've already seen that with the Big XII staying together when everybody and their dog just absolutely knew it was going down.

Having said that, I don't think BYU accepts an invite to the Big XII unless they get to keep the TV network that they already have. And I don't think that's gonna fly with the other members of the conference.

Notre Dame is a pipe dream. That will never happen.

Boise St will never be invited. They add absolutely zero in the television market. They have a good football program. That's it.

I think Louisville is the most likely option. TCU would be nice but they don't add anything in the TV market either.
 
As a Texas fan, I think the best thing to do is to just stay pat in the Big XII with nine teams. That gives every team in the conference a round robin of eight games with four non-conference games.

That increases everybody's chances of making a bowl game, plus it gives teams the opportunity to consistently schedule seven home games a year.

I would love for that to happen. Then Texas could keep the A&M game and the Rice game (a showcase game in Houston every other year for the recruits that can't make the trip up to Austin), and still have two other non-conference games.

I think the TV contract with Fox is void if the Big 12 goes under 10 teams.
 
I heard a crazy idea for the Big Cow to save itself from being eaten alive by the impending super-conferences:

Expand to 16 schools before anyone else does.

If the Big XII expands to 16, they need quality teams. They can't just grab a bunch of non AQ teams or they will look like the Mountain West.

TCU a nobody? I'll take TCU over BYU in a second. Houston is only down because they are stuck in a crappy conference. Put them in the Big XII they go back to being what they were in the SWC.

TCU is really not that stable of a program. They have one of the smallest student bodies in D-1 w/o a large alumini base. They have had recent success, but do not any sort of tradition as a power. In short, ten years from now more chance they are drag than not. (And yes I have plenty of TCU friends living up here).
 
A&M will take a lot of the southeast Texas market with them when they leave; from that point of view, U of H looks like a good deal--not a great one, but this is damage control.

TCU? It sure would be nice to see them in an AQ conference, but between UT, OU and Tech (to a lesser extent) the Big Cow already has that market. BYU, on the other hand, could bring in an audience of Mormons from all over the country.

Then again, if I had the answers I'd be running things, wouldn't I?

I agree with you.

BYU, with a national audience, is the obvious first choice. I think Louisville would also be a good choice.

I would love for it to be Houston, but I'm just not sure it would happen.

What's the deal with the new stadium? Is that ever going to happen? Because that would surely make them look more attractive.
