Drew Brees worked against a Wade Phillips defense for two years in practice during the 04 and 05 seasons while Brees was starting there and Wade was the defensive coordinator, so there is some familiarity there. But they have only met against each other one time back in the 09 season. A red hot 13-0 Saints team in the Superdome trying to secure a perfect season against an 8-5 Cowboys team desperate to get into the postseason.
Wade Phillips defense held the Saints offense to a measly 3 points throughout 3 quarters of play and kept Brees in check for most of the night. They scored 14 points in the 4th quarter as it appeared that the Cowboys defense wasn't on the attack nearly as much, and it gave the Saints a chance to win the game after a Nick Folk FG missed late in the game with just over two minutes left. Brees could not finish the game out as with 6 seconds left in the game, DeMarcus Ware came off the edge in a 3 point stance and rushed right around the left tackle to get his second sack/fumble of the night.
Brees finished the game 29/45 for 298 Yds, 1 TD/1 INT, and 2 fumbles lost, and the Cowgirls won 24-17.
