Tuesday free agent workouts

I know the Texans work out guys every Tuesday so I'm just curious if there are any guys out there who anyone would like the Texans to bring in to see if they can make us better. I personally am in favor of bringing in Pat Williams even with the 2 game suspension. I know he's never played in a 3-4 defense, but you really are only asking for him to play 15-25 plays and take on blocks and space. There really isn't anyone out there that I feel like could help us a lot more. We could possibly be pretty thin at running back this week as well so there may be some movement on that front.

Pretty surprised no one really has an opinion on this. Is everyone pretty much satisfied with what we have at this point? Considering that Rick Smith knows this is a must win year, I wouldn't be shocked to see us do some minor tinkering.

I think most of us are upset this isn't a thread telling us who we worked out today.

Sorry, I was under the impression that expressing opinions was popular here.
He was saying the thread title is misleading. I too thought when I opened this thread it would have a list of guys we were bringing in not suggestions of who we should.

I'm with you though, the run defense might be suspect all year and a big nose might help that since we basically rush 5 at all times and that leaves only Cody/Mitchell, Cush, and Demeco up the middle to stop it. Wade likes his guys though so we will see

I apologize to anyone I misled. Even though I frequent the site, posting isn't really my thing so again I'm sorry.

But to your point, I do agree that there probably won't be much movement with the Defense but I would feel at ease just knowing they're at least trying to explore other options to try and improve. Most Lions fans say they couldn't get rid of Cody quick enough and he's anchoring the middle of our defense. Who knows what kind of shape Pat Williams is in, but I think he would be able to help us big time on early downs assuming he hasn't blown up to 500 pounds.

THIS YEAR
I signed Pat Williams at the start of the first franchise season in Madden 12 and he dominated and was all-pro.

But Arian Foster also ran for 3,150 yards and Andre Johnson caught 197 passes for 3,465 yards.

I wouldn't say upset, more like disappointed. I expected a list also.
I will say the thread prompted me to check HT.com to see if there was news on that front.
Sadly, there was none.

I've got Foster and Johnson on my fantasy teams. Solid.

The big argument for Cody and Mitchell being able to hold down the fort in this 3-4 is that it's more of a 4-3. The NT spot is more of a 4-3 DT/NT spot than a straight 3-4 NT spot.

So... I see that as a good argument to bring Pat Williams in here. He may not be a 3-4 NT but that's not what we're supposed to be looking for in the first place. OTOH, I wasn't watching the Vikes that much last year but IIRC, the "Williams Wall" was broken. IIRC (and I could be wrong), he didn't look that good.

So the guy may be spent at this point.

I'd love for us to bring him in for a looksee at least.

Exactly my point! He's up there in age, but you're not asking for him to be a world beater at this point. He would only be in on early downs and goalline/ short yardage situations.

The other possible benefit is it would possibly motivate Cody to play better. There's absolutely no way Mitchell is going anywhere, but Cody is expendable in my opinion. Either way, I don't see any harm in at least bringing the guy in and seeing what he has left.

I would like to see a veteran DT brought in for a tryout tomorrow and that is Pat then so be it.

Ah, don't worry about it as everyone on this Mb has screwed up a post or an opinion or will. Main thing to remember to avoid castigation is to spell names of players correctly and then you will go down in Texan Talk Hal of fame. Glad your here. I am very surprised we did not pick up another FA or two after teams began reducing rosters. Two trades I'd like to see bringing player to us would be NT Ron Brace and CB Asante Samuel. If that happened I'd think the rapture would be on the way.

I also like what little I have seen of FA pick up WR Johnson. He may be a solid #3 behind Jacoby.

Lol, I'm pretty careful about getting names right so I should be alright there. I'd love to have Samuel here too, but that's not gonna happen. He's actually been taking snaps from DRC in Philly. DT and backup OL are 2 positions where I think we can improve.

The thing I'm concerned about is this is pretty close to what happened last year except it was giving up passing yards. We were stubborn in not addressing those issues until it was way too late. Winning and being competitive in games is no reason to try to improve. We started 2-0 last year, but were getting killed through the air. We're giving up a lot of YPC right now, and its a concern to me. Not enough to panic, but to overlook it like last year would be foolish to me.

The real problem is that the people have hand ful of "name" player that they know are free, but largelly the Texans will bring in dudes who are way more unknown or generic than what fans are expecting. Does not help the local fishwrap barely gets the info out to us.

Outside of that, enjoy the fourm.

Sorry bandboy, I have never screwed up a post or opinion, and never will.
The original poster's transgression is grounds for immediate exile from Texans Talk.
Even if he were to learn and spell every player's name correctly, I would be strongly opposed to his admittance into the Texans Talk Hal of fame.
