Just heard this on 610 during an interview with Rich Lord. Sure, we haven't played a juggernaut passing team yet however this is still impressive considering what was going on last season.

Fewest points allowed too and that include two teams(Rams and Giants) played only one game.

Go Texans!!!

Chad Henne put up 30/49 for 416 yards 2 TDs, 1 INT 4 sacks and a 93.6 QB rating against the Pats.
Against the Texans he did 12/30 170 yards 1 TD 1 INT 2 sacks and a 56.2 QB rating.

Even if the bad passing is mostly due to the D-line getting pressure, that's a big improvement over last year.

Thats what happens when you play Collins and Henne in the first two weeks. I imagine this will change after Brees and Roethlesberger.

Hey, is this why Wade Phillips held up his hand and made the "Number 1" sign with his hand?????

Right at the end of the game, he snaps his headset off his head and is emphatically looking at all his guys and his assistants on the sideline and he's celebrating and holding up his index finger in the "We're number 1" sign.

I damn sure bet that he got the news (while still on the sideline) that we lurched into first place, as is being reported here in this thread. What do you guys think?

He's a smart guy. He'll take that and make it a motivational tool all week long this week. Bum's son is off to a good start.

I thought he threw that up because it was 4th down and Tate got just enough for the 1st

I assumed Phillips did it asking if it was a first down. The play before was 4th & 1 and the Houston offense picked up the yardage. Phillips took off his headset realizing he wouldn't be making any more calls to his defense.

There were still over half the weeks games yet to pay at that point. I'm sure you are right and they will use this info to get anyone who hasnt bought into the system whole heartedly yet to get it, but at that point it would be a little premature to start touting that they were number 1 even if it was true.

??? We played a late game, a good 85% or more of the games were over by the time we knelt down to end the game vs. Dolphins. The only remaining games were Sunday Night and Monday Night. Four teams.

Gonna' go back and watch the ending again.

I could have sworn he did this well after Tate got the first down. In fact, I thought he was doing this while we were preparing to kneel the football?

But after reading what you guys said, I can see how he was celebrating a first down there. Makes sense.

I'm more worried about Brees than Rothlisberger. Big Ben can choke or shine, but Brees almost always shines. Besides, Pittsburgh's OL is looking very vulnerable.

I think he assumed it was a to goal situation and he didn't know there was room to get a new set of downs. That would explain his slightly delayed reaction.

We are also the best in total yards allowed!! I know it's only week 2, but to see "Houston Texans" at the top of any denfensive category is freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder where we'll be in rushing ypg. After yesterday, I bet it's not so great. We're averaging 108 ypg on the ground. That danged ole CnD is probably right again. Those Dr. types are pretty fart smellers. :brickwall:

We have to do something about the gashing. They need to bring in some mountains to play nose. I knew it was gonna be ugly with Cody and Mitchel at nose.

Yeah. Ben has a shakey offensive line, while N.O has those bulldozer guards. I'm very worried about Nawlens.

I'm with the others-he was asking if Tate got the first and when it was confirmed he took off the headset knowing the D was done for the day. It was nice to see him do that though-he actually cracked a smile and looked happy!

Hey, after making scrubs look like pro bowlers for years, the fact we make scrubs look like scrubs is a HUGE victory.
Which scrubs did we make look like scrubs? We ran for fewer yd against Indy than we did last year and we struggled in our run game against the Fins. The Fins handily out rushed us.

But we did not let Henne or Collins look like Brady against us.

I am pretty sure he meant our secondary last year made other teams passing attacks look like the second coming of Montana and Rice. I cringe thinking back to the Timothy Tebow game! :(

That's nice, but our run defense is #17.....middle of the pack.

I hope it doesn't bite us in the end if we continue to allow these bums to run right up the middle because of our teeny tiny NT. Just wish we had someone to replace Shaun Nobody.

If we can stay at around 16/17 in run defense, and keep in the upper-echelon of pass defense, I think we'll be ok. However, the running game scares me a bunch.

I hope I'm wrong, but we may end up having to play like Indy has all these years, in that we'll need to build a lead and keep the opponent passing in order to give us the best chance of winning with the blitzes and other pressures we can create. If opponents are able to run down the middle, I think we'll be toast.

That's how I saw it. He was just saying we got a 1st down and that the game was over, no need to get the D on the field.

Anyone else notice how the coaching staff is shaking hands this year after their victories? I noticed it after week one and thought it was a good sign. Kubiak and Wade are shaking hands saying good job, that means they are working well together and it's an important sign. Maybe they've always done it and I just didn't pay attention, who knows.

Yes, I notice it last week for the first time. I dunno if they've done that prior but I've never seen it.

Apples and roadmaps
In 2009, we were infamous as a passing team.
In 2010, we were infamous as a rushing team.
In 2011, we are becoming infamous for our defense.

Once we get everything aligned within one season, maybe we can win one of them trophies that all those other teams got.

The Texans lead the NFL in Passing yards allowed , Total Yards allowed and Points allowed ..... They are second in another very important defensive statistic - 3rd down percentage allowing a 23.8% rate of conversion.

Who's #1 ? ..... The Redskins , go figure. (21.1%).

Where some other notable teams and upcoming opponents rank -

The Packers are 31st allowing 55.6%

New Orleans is 21st at 41.7%

Steelers 10th at 32.1%

Ravens 16th at 38.5%

My understanding from the Kubes presser was that we gameplanned to stop Henne and the passing attack since last game they got 400+ yards. We were willing to give up some on the run.
Our ILBs were essentially lined up on on the line or blitzing for most of the game. Our safeties were making a lot of the tackles.

I was pretty worried about the run defense yesterday but after hearing the reasoning behind it I have to tip my hat to Kubes. They went with a gameplan and we executed on it fairly well. Henne had a pretty long day yesterday.

I don't know if we can get away with that same plan against the Saints, but if we can scheme as well as we did against the Dolphins we should at least keep it close.

I seem to remember a lot of 6 and 7 in the box.

I think Phillips is always going to concentrate on stopping the passing game unless we are playing a team like the Jaguars with McCown under center.

I think that's absolutely the game plan against the Saints. Who's going to beat you? Drew Brees or Mark Ingram? I'll take my chances with Ingram, and come out in a nickel defense. Seriously. Dare the Saints to run. They're doing you a favor by running the ball.

I appreciate what the defense has accomplished, thus far. But, that was against mid-majors. They're playing a big time BCS school this week. With a Heisman candidate at QB.

The Texans are 26th in yards per rush allowed. Wade doesn't care if you run the ball. He wants to stop the pass. Because that's how teams score in this league. Wade is sending his defensive front up the field to get to the QB. If they meet a RB along the way, they'll tackle him. Else, it's up to the linebackers and safeties. It's a strategy that I think will work versus most of the teams the Texans will face.

Especially if our ground game is on..... if we can keep it on the ground, eat up clock, keep Brees on the bench... as long as we score more on our drives than they do, it's a win.

That would be my game plan as well.... heck, with GQ, Nolan, & Manning on the field, I'd probalby go dime.

Call me crazy, but I highly doubt this will last past Sunday afternoon. The Saints can run and pass on anyone, including our 'new' defense.

Your not crazy. Stat matchup:

Saints O - Total #5, Passing #5, Rushing #17, Scoring #5.

Have faced the so far #23 and #30 defenses on total yards.

Saints D - Total #12, Passing #18, Rushing #7, Scoring #23.

Have faced the so far #9 and #23 offenses on total yards.

Texans O - Total #14, Passing #22, Rushing #5, Scoring #9.

Have faced the so far #16 and #32 defenses on total yards.

Texans D - Total #1, Passing #1, Rushing #17, Scoring #1.

Have faced the so far #10 and #29 offenses on total yards.

Of course they may not walk away from the game with three #5 rankings on their O either.
