Bulman was not one of the players the Texans tendered. He'll be a FA once a CBA is done. Odds are....he gone
 
What does it mean when Anderson received a 2nd round tender?

And when we picked up Jason Allen last year off the waiver wire, do we picked up the remainder of his 6-yr rookie contract that he signed in 2006?

For a normal off-season it would mean he was free to negotiate with any team. If he got an offer we could match and he stays with us. If we chose not to match, the other team would owe us a 2nd round pick. In this case it is probably meaningless as we wouldn't normally be able to tender him at all and every expectation is when a new CBA is reached the rules will go back to a 4 year limit on RFA's.

Yes since we took him off of waivers instead of letting him clear and trying to sign him as a free agent we get his remaining contract.

I think they've made it clear that they are trying to re-sign him. However, all dealings with players have been put on hold for a while now. So we can't do anything until a new CBA or if the players win April 6
 
Okoye is on the block

According to John McClain's chat Amobi Okoye is on the trade block.

The Texans are expected to make Okoye available for trade. Trouble is, he's shown no pass-rush ability, is due a $2.95 million salary in the final year of his contract, and the rest of the NFL is well aware Okoye doesn't fit Houston's new 3-4 defense. They can't expect more than a late-round pick in return.

So how would everyone feel if Amobi does get traded? Would they complain that we wasted a 1st rounder or would they be happy to atleast see that Smithiak is admitting they screwed up and trying to get something out of that screw up.

I admit...I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. Stupid move on my part.

I want big name players from football factories...USC, Texas, Alabama, Florida. No more Louisvilles or multidirectional colorado schools.

Actually Louisville had put out quite a few NFL players. The one I remember the most is Ernest Givins. Michael Bush is from Louisville and think about it - how many times do you hear Chris Berman and Tom Jackson saying " So and so from- (Tom Jackson) Louisville!"

worst case would also be he gets lost in the 3-4 and teams score 30+ on us again week in and week out when we could of got anybody that would be better then amobi

The same line of thinking that has screwed the Texans for so long. If they find another "dreamer" team to unload Amobe, it's unlikely they turn out to be a "dreamer" as well as a "sucker"...............no 3rd round pick in the cards.
 
We would be lucky to get a 6th rounder for Amobi. If we can get a 6th rounder, I am not opposed to making that deal. Maybe we can justify drafting a punter/kicker with a few more draft picks to work with.

If we go into this season with Turk as the punter, I am going to start wondering who he's sleeping with.

Okoye wasn't productive in a defense designed to his supposed strengths. How will he be productive in a defense that will expose his weaknesses. The Texans shouldn't waste a roster spot on Amobi. If he can't be traded when the league opens for business, Okoye should be cut.

odds are pretty good, with both Texans 2004 & 2005 first round picks no longer here with minimal compensation in return. My hope however was as it relates to best case scenero for Texans but once again probably never comes to fruition :hankpalm:

What is your definition of minimal compensation? They were 1st round picks and got paid accordingly. Production had quat to do with it.
What possible hope could you have from them? The only fruition you will see is from the bullshit tree that members here planted when they were drafted.

minimal compensation to me would be 1/2 of fair market value not pennies on the dollar :money:

Shaun Cody
Earl Mitchell
Amobi Okoye
Mario Williams
Antonio Smith
Tim Jamison
Jesse Nading
Connor Barwin
Brian Cushing
Demeco Ryans
Daryl Sharpton
Xavier Adibi
Stanford Keglar

That's 13 guys; plus Mark Anderson whom the Texans had shown interet in resigning.

The Texans probably carry 14 guys for these spots.
Granted, Keglar is a ST player at the moment and may not count against these spots.
Also, some of the players (at the lower end in salary) might get cut if the Texans draft a player high or if they sign a FA later on.

Who do you think might get the ax if/when the time comes?

You've got to expect the cuts to go something like this:

Keglar
Adibi
Nading
Jamison

I'm not sure who they have rated higher between Nading and Jamison. I expect that Keglar goes before Adibi but Keglar might contribute more in ST.

You are probably right , considering he was a first round pick they will give him every opportunity to stick around.

Rather than playing him at DT , I think they should experiment with him at DE in this 34 setup , I really get the idea that's the position he's best suited for.

If he gets cut or changes position it increases the need for at least a rotational player at the NT spot. You cant expect two guy's to hold that position down for an entire season.

I'd really like to see them move down in the draft and see them end up with a low #1 and two #2's. with the idea of picking up Akeem Ayers , Stephen Paea and Aaron Williams.

With that group they address three need positions and get value at the respective picks.

Its kinda funny , everyone and their grandmother knows the Texans need help at those three positions along with CB but almost every mock I've seen has them taking one of the DE's. Do they read the **** they post ?

I'll likely do a mock in the next few days .... havent had time to get down to the lower round graded players yet so anything at this point would be incomplete.

Obviously time will tell but I think that is exactly right. I see him as a young Gary Walker spelling both Mario and Smith at DE and coming in at DT when they run a 4-3 set.
 
While he's not a Texan player, it's worth mentioning that in today's chat, McClain mentioned that Wade Phillips had knee replacement surgery two weeks ago. One of two things could come from this:

a) Wade's hopped up on goofballs and hasn't been able to get much done in the way of draft prep.

b) Wade's been laying in bed with a video monitor and a coaches clicker obsessively staring at game tape and he'll be better prepared than usual.

Here's hoping it's "b".

Not usually an easy surgery. Those goofballs you speak of have probably been a regular staple of Wade's diet.......along with lots of fiber.

Under the circumstances, I don't know how much intense concentration he would have been able to give the draft as of late.
