LonerATO's Mock v1

LonerATO

All Pro
I am drafting based on the players currently on the team and I won't make any changes till free agents are signed. I think the Texans are fine at WR, but I'm sure many here would disagree. I didn't mock a NT that high due to the comments in the Chron from Wade talking about certain players being able to play the NT. Turk needs to be replaced, but this team cannot afford to spend a pick on a punter when many go undrafted and I felt that the Texans should be using all the picks this year to build up a whole new defense.

1st rd. Robert Quinn, DE/OLB, North Carolina
2nd rd. Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA
3rd rd. Christian Ballard, DE/DT, Iowa
4th rd. Jeron Johnson, SS, Boise State
5th rd. Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame
6th rd. Chris Carter, DE/OLB, Fresno State
7th rd. Charles Brown, CB, North Carolina

I like the fact your not jumping to any wild trade ideas or signing a premier FA until the dust has settled.

Quinn would have to fall because of character concerns, also expect him to have a monster combine. Should be a Top 10 pick, but hey if it happens Texans would have to consider him a 3-4 OLB option.

I like Rahim Moore, UCLA FS. He has excellent range, loose hips & able to really cover good receivers over the top. Really good closing speed would be just what the doctor ordered. Texans 2nd rd. pick should be really close to fair value for his services too.

Have to check out Ballard @ the Senior Bowl & see how he grades. Did catch my eye on occassion playing @ Iowa, of course could have benefited from Clayborn being double teamed?

I'm seeing SS Jeron Johnson alot in my fellow poster mocks. have no problem taking him, good instinctive well coached player who makes physical contact almost every tackle.

A nose tackle who could make the 53 man roster in the 5th rd? sign me up.

Not crazy about a Fresno State Bulldog, OLB who runs a 4.7 & weighs 230 lbs. Depends how he improves on his numbers and impresses in workouts?

Charlie Brown with the last pick, seems almost too perfect.

I like Quinn a lot from a projection standpoint. Character issues and the whole being suspended from school for a year issue still need to be resolved, but he's every bit as any DE that's come out since Mario. He's an elite talent.

I'm not really sure what to make of Moore just yet. Some days I like him, others I don't. Position wise, it's a hit.

I like Ballard a lot, but I'm not sold on him in the NFL. I think as BL pointed out, having Clayborn next to him is huge. I'd liken him to a less productive Crick next to Suh.

I also think we're going to have to draft some interior OL help. Not a lot, but another OG/C with size would be nice.

I liked the positions you picked and where they were picked, just don't like some of the players you picked. In the 1st I think we would have a better chance getting Von Miller, DE/OLB. No personal issues either. In the 2nd I like Quinton Carter, FS. In the 3rd I'd go after Kenrick Ellis, NT. I know this is not necessarily the type of NT Wade wants, but if he shows enough quickness and strength at the Combine, he might be too good to pass up. In the 4th I wouldn't mind getting JJ. In the 5th I'd go after Matthews, ILB, if he's still there. The other 2 rounds I might look for some O-line help and maybe a Punter.

Anyway, It's just another opinion and I'm sure both of ours will change many times before the Draft.

After watching the East-West game and then doing some "scouting" on some other players I am making some changes to my mock draft based on needs and who I think fits the Texans new scheme. I think Houston is going to make a name for himself at the combine and after watching the Shrine game I think J.J. could be a guy that Wade likes. I am taking a shot in the dark with O'Donnell and the fact that the guy is a massive man that looks like he can work in a ZBS, but would need some coaching up and who knows maybe someday can usurp the LT spot from Brown. I worry that Carter is going to move up real fast on some 3-4 draft boards.

1st rd. Justin Houston, DE/OLB, Georgia
2nd rd. Sione Fua, NT, Stanford
3rd rd. Robert Sands, FS, West Virginia
4th rd. Jeron Johnson, SS, Boise State
5th rd. Chris Carter, DE/OLB, Fresno State
6th rd. Matthew O'Donnell, OT/OG, QU
7th rd. Jason Teague, CB, TCU

With the Senior Bowl passed us I went back to the drawing board on my mock. I think that Miller and Quinn will be off the board, but Peterson will be there for the Texans. I know many people are not or will not be happy with another CB, but Peterson is a beast. I can see the team moving Glover over to FS if Peterson is drafted.

1st rd. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
2nd rd. Sam Acho, DE/OLB, Texas
3rd rd. Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame
4th rd. Jeron Johnson, SS, Boise State
5th rd. Thomas Keiser, DE/OLB, Stanford
6th rd. Kendric Burney, CB, North Carolina
7th rd. Brandon Bair, DE/DT, Oregon

I think Peterson falling to us is highly unlikely. He's one of the better prospects in this draft. A potential lockdown corner or troy polamalu rover-type of safety. He's better in coverage and a better tackler than Eric Berry, who went #5 last year. If he's there for us, he would be an excellent selection though (barring he didn't fall in the draft due to injury or huge character/maturity issues).

I don't think Peterson will be there at 11, but if he is I hope Houston pulls the trigger on him. He's a top five pick in the draft imo.

This.

But I dont care if he has character issues, if he drops to 11, I am taking him. Dude is the best DB prospect since Sean Taylor (RIP).

That would be a hell of a draft. The only problems I can think of is that I see no way that Peterson falls to #11, or Burney falls to the 6th round (he will go in the 3rd at the latest). I also think Bair will be gone before the 7th.

If we could get peterson at 11 it would be a steal but i dont see it happening. I could see prince dropping but not peterson

So if Prince is available to the Texans would they select him?

First off there is no way Peterson falls to us at #11, he'll go in the top 5 in this talent poor draft.

The Texans would be flat out retarded not to take Amukamara if he's available.

Awfully bold statement there! Would the 10 teams picking before us also be retarded? btw bad choice of words

I think prince is an incredible talent and if he fell to us at 11 we would have to take him.

I think he is a talent. Don't know about incredible. He has looked very vulnerable at times. I was mainly calling out the choice of words.
