Please spend the $$$$$ and bring proven winners in to run your organization.

If you choose to keep either Smith or Kubiak and after another 5 yrs of suckitude you will lose what will be left of the best fans in the world. I hope the $$$$ that you save by not hiring Cowher,Gruden,Parcells etc... I hope it's worth it and you enjoy the extra $$$$.

That is all.

I love the humor in this thread.

But nobody has answered this ? yet

We get it. You want Cowher. There are lots of potential reasons other than $$$. Maybe McNair has decided having the HC being in charge is wrong and so wants a HC who will largely defer to the GM on personnel (like Cowher did during his Steelers years). Maybe his opinion of the odds of a lockout are more grim. Maybe doesn't want a coach who has already retired once and might only coach 3-4 years and walk away again (see Parcells short tenure track record).

Pardon me for interrupting. Now continue with bashing anything and everything Texans.

For the record I'm a Gruden guy.

I'm not bashing the Texans. Thanks for answering the ?

So he wants a guy with R.Smiths' drafting record over a Guy with a successfull record like Gruden/Cowher etc... (Not smart. IMHO)

The lockout is a valid answer. This answer comes back to $$$$

Parcells may only be here for 3-4 yrs. But he's left every franchise he has run in better shape when he left than when he got there, and a he** of alot better shape than Smith and Kubiak currently have the Texans in.

There may be a reason $$$$ dont come into play. But the only reason Smith will get this job. is because he has done a wonderful job getting the dead $$$ off the cap and he's helped save McNair a fortune in contract negociations. It surely isn't because of his savy war room decisions.

Do Gruden and Cowher even have draft records?

Gruden had final sayin Tampa.

He had alot of say in Oakland. One of the reasons he left Oakland is the old man started messing around in the personel dept. (Gruden/Allen)

While Cowher didn't have final say he worked with Tom Modrak (Who's available) to rebuild the Steeler dynasty. Cowher knows defensive personel and knows veteran personal guys and scouts.

Fact is asst coaches an personel guys that are proven want to work for Cowher and he has strong ties with these guys even after being out of the league for a while. These ties are much stronger than Kubiak or Smith have around the NFL.

Dont believe me look at the thread listing possible HC hires by Smith. Calhoun,Jackson,Sherman etc... makes me LOL.

What makes me LOL is you asserting all that as fact.

Check it out

Were Allen and Gruden together in Oakland/Tampa?

Are you really saying Cowher isn't well connected around the NFL? Are you saying that Smith is better connected than Cowher?

I will make this prediction if Jackson or Calhoun and to a lesser extent Sherman is hired as HC the Texans will have a losing record next yr and the McNair PR spin will begin again.

I've pondered this myself. I recall having read here that IF there is a lockout for the '11 season that we can thank Uncle Bob for having a leading hand in making it happen. IIRC, mainly having to do with revenue sharing, not so much player salary %'s. Not that he doesn't want to reduce that as well but his main gig was wanting to restructure revenue sharing so he can keep a bigger pile. Having said that, wouldn't it make sense that he has an inside "finger on the pulse" of how all this is going to shake down and feels like it's less complicated/easier to just maintain coarse and speed this year with say defensive coaching changes? He can ride it out this year and make wholesale changes next season?

Just a long winded thought...
