I am NOT mad about yesterday's game. Disappointed and bummed? Yeah. But it's hard to be mad.

We just got beat by a team that's 3-5. So what? They're second in the NFL in total defense (4th in passing, 5th in rushing), and first in offense (1st in passing, 14th in rushing). And we lost on a couple of controversial calls and a dropped ball by our best player.

What's to be mad about? It was a well-coached, well-played, hard-fought game. Fire Kubiak for losing by less than a touchdown against one of the statistically best teams in the league?

Pssshhhht, pleese. We ain't the 1-7 cowboys.

I believe Kubiak is being judged for more than his last game.

You and I are normally on the same page. Not here, though. I'm pissed. :mariopalm:

I'm pissed about the cowboys and Giants games. There were no excuses for those. The Colts game? Lots of people lose there. I was disappointed and irritated, but I'll take a split with the Colts any year. But against a VERY good Chargers team (record notwithstanding) that we took down to the wire? It's hard to be mad about that. Disappointment and anger are not the same thing.

I hear what you're saying about the Colts and I get that. I wasn't pissed that we lost it, I was pissed at how we lost it... It was a winnable game. We knew the formula to beat the Colts and we abandoned that. Not only that, the player's performance sucked as equally as the game plan...

I'm pissed about yesterday because we are now 2-3 at home.... That means we only have 3 home games remaining in the next 8... Blown opportunities.

I don't know what it is, I was drinking the Kool-Aid this year. I was so excited. Our O was unstopable, Jacoby was coming into his own. We were even debating making him our 2 reciever. We were getting OD back. Our D with Pollard, Demeco, Cushing, did great last year. We dominated some games, and we lost games that came down to the wire, breaking my heart. I was like ok we are getting good, look at these games we should of won.
I have seen no domination this year on anything, except for Foster. I feel like the Texans regressed. I know the scheduale is harder, but we can't do anything on either side of the ball, can't dominate any part of the game. Even when Foster is kicking ass, what do we do? pass the ball..

In perspective, the Texans are only one game out of first, what with both the Titans and Colts losing their recent games.

I'm a Kubiak-backer but I have to say I was VERY disappointed with his play-calling during the Monday Night Colts game. Still, the Texans were down 30-17 with over 5 minutes left and were unable to drive down to get a makeable touchdown to bring them closer. As it turned out, after punting, the D stopped the Peyton again...so imagine if the Texans got the ball back down 30-24. As bad as the Texans were that game, they were still in position for one of their patented come-back games...but it just wasn't in the cards.

In the Chargers game, while it they should have called a time-out before plunging on that 4th and 2 play, I can see why Kubiak did it. With what went on during that game, it STILL boiled down to Andre simply making that catch with 1:20 or so left! If he makes that catch, we probably go on to win that game, ala Washington and K.C. Again it wasn't in the cards.

The Chargers also lost to teams that the Texans defeated. And they're 4-5.

The rest of this season, it does look daunting because we do not have the defense that can CONSISTENTLY get opposing offenses off the field...but to give them props they have made game turning stops and turnovers when our offense needed them. I guess that's all we can count on.

And no, thank goodness that the hot-headed illogical fans calling for Kubiak's head don't make the decisions. He may make some dumb decisions (but then even Super Bowl winning coaches like Belichick also do) but he has them generally competing well (except the Giants and Cowboys games). So the blowhards should relax and eat a gyro. Kubiak isn't going anywhere at this time. Jesus, we could be in the Buffalo Bills' or Dallas Cowboys' fanbase right now, eh?

But that Texans defense HAS to get fixed down the road before they can get to the next level. I feel that the Texans offensive system is now well-placed for awhile. Naturally, with the surge of the running game, the passing attack isn't what it was last year...but it's not like it disappeared. The passing game was still crucial to victories this year.

I mean, come on. This has really been an overall competitive NFL season, the good teams having an up and down year. The Pats got whacked 34-14? Only the Giants in the NFC look like true world-beaters right now, as of this moment...and I wouldn't be surprised if they go through a two or three game swoon down the road either.

It would have been nice for the Texans to go 13-3 or 12-4, per our dreams, but in this season of extreme parity...the Houston Texans ARE STILL in the hunt! Take it for what it is, people. Bandwagon fair-weather fans simply should get off already. I'm looking forward to the Jags game.

Soo... We champion the stats of our opponent to justify losing to them?
We point at the Cowboys 1-7 to excuse a 4-4 record?

Hmm...

I thought we were over this type of thinking. Apparently not.

They're second in the NFL in total defense (4th in passing, 5th in rushing),

Man, are you serious with this? Lol!

You don't honestly consider that awful defensive and offensive ranking that the NFL uses every year with meaningless stats to try and paint SD as a good defense are you?? I really hope not, because SD is anything but a good defense. I almost threw up in my mouth earlier last week when people tried to call SD the top ranked defense. I hear this garbage every year about certain teams where they use these skewed stats from all over the place to paint a defense and also an offense as one of the top teams off of a combination of stats, but that doesn't make the statement anywhere close to being true. The Chargers don't even have what I would consider a "good defense". They've gotten scored on all season long. The only stat anyone should look at to indicate who the best defenses in the league are is average points per game that the defense gives up or that the offense scores.

And we lost on a couple of controversial calls and a dropped ball by our best player.

And SD was without their 4 best offensive skill players in Jackson, Gates, Floyd, and Mathews and our defense still got toasted. Nice way to ignore the real glaring facts here.

What's to be mad about? It was a well-coached, well-played, hard-fought game. Fire Kubiak for losing by less than a touchdown against one of the statistically best teams in the league?

Is this stuff serious??? Honestly? How do you come into a thread and try to paint this team as such a great top team with skewed stats and yet these guys were 3-5 coming into this game??? Talk about a total contradiction. The Chargers are just as bad as the Texans are as far as under achieving this year and not playing up to their potential. They do actually have a much better excuse on offense though since all of their top skill players are injured.

Do people in here that are still trying to spin things for Kubiak even realize that the Chargers have had a better passing game than the Texans all season when they're best WR has been Malcom Floyd of all people and him and Gates are both hurt now??? We still have had AJ, Walters, Jacoby, Daniels, and Dressen and we haven't been more consistent than that unit.

And did you just call them well coached??? Lol! Norv Turner is like one of Kubiak's cousins or something, but just a better version of him and more proven. No one around the league considers Norv Turner to be some great coach though as far as a HC. He'll nevr take the Chargers anywhere.

Pssshhhht, pleese. We ain't the 1-7 cowboys.

Oh great, we're not that 1-7 team that had their only win against "you know who" so that's something to feel good about. Seriously, man we need to drop this loser's mentality of trying to compare ourselves to the worst losers. This is embarrassing to have stuff like this being thrown around to make our fan base feel better. We should be trying to compare ourselves to the Patriots and the Steelers and franchises that consistently win. **** the Cowboys and their humiliating downfalls. It has nothing to do with us. We need to demand more from what we have and what we're going to get. I'm sick of this losing crap and this lack of urgency from Bob Mcnair. Demand accountability in your regime's 5th season. I hate Jerry Jones, but at least that pie hole demands accountability and expects success from his HC.

Nice post. As far as the bolded, how do you think the Bengals fanbase is reacting right now. After sweeping their very tough division last year, they get beat down at home in the wild card game. This year they are 2-5 and are losing to Pittsburgh at the half. Ya think they would be estatic to have our 4-4 record?

Dont' worry, the Chargers destroyed the Jags in week 2. 4-4 is not bad at this time of the season.....a lot of teams would like to be in your place right now. Big game this weekend!

Being happy with 4-4 is to embrace mediocrity. I don't follow that loser's mentality, and neither should Mcnair/Kubiak.

Nobody is happy being 500. but at this point of season, you are still in the mix. If you get hot in November/December, then your chances of playoffs is apparent. Remember the Texans has the hardest ranked schedule this year and the Jags ranked 4th. The AFC South is still up for grabs...it's going to come down to, which team gets hot.

ya im pissed we lost but not angry like i was after the colts game...

we're still only a game out of the division lead and we're starting to play better week on week (esp defensively). if we keep arian busy on offence like on sunday, i can see us being there or thereabouts at the year end

I'm hoping that Kubiak starts to call Arian's number much more. Keeping him on the field keeps the other teams offense off the field and more importantly our defense off the field.

Our defense has made more plays than it has in the past, but it is still a sieve. The only way we win out in this division is to keep our defense off the field and slow the game down. It'll make em look statistically better too.

That's very true. I just looked at Tenn schedule, and startin Nov 28th, they got a pretty hard schedule on their hands. I still think Mia can play them tough too.

Starting Nov 28th, they play us ( I know everyone thinks we can't win or wont win but division games make impossible things happen)

Dec 5 vs Jville
followed by short week Dec 9 vs Indy
of course they get 10 days before playing Hou Dec 19
Dec 26 @KC (very hard to play there and KC is pretty good this year)
Jan 02 @ Indy

That's four games vs division and one vs a division leader in the AFC. I could easily see them drop 3 out of 5.

But our schedule is tough down that stretch too you say. Yes but stranger things have happened and we tend to have good Decembers. We just need to worry about the next team which is Jville this week. Then you can look at a NYJ team which already lossed and barel squeaked out against the Lions (who would've won if not for a dumb coach decision also).

Yessir. Which games on the road will we make those home losses up? Pffft! I just don't see it happening, man. This team doesn't have the nads

But that Texans defense HAS to get fixed down the road before they can get to the next level.

Funny you should mention that. I'm going over the game book & just looking over the drives.

Defensively, we played as well as the #1 rated Chargers (they were #1 then, but after playing Arian Foster, they've dropped to #2) in the first half. We only allowed 14 points, they allowed 20. We allowed 214 yards of offense, they allowed 172 (maybe not as well here).

In the second half, we allowed 15 points, they allowed 3.

But remember this. After the Chargers scored a TD, making the score 21-23 Texans, we got into the Red Zone, & turned it over on downs. This was the first time, when we gave the ball to Foster & he was cut down in the backfield (I don't know why Dressen allowed Phillips to get into the backfield. All he had to do was block & we'd have picked up that first down).

Our defense then intercepted the ball, giving it back to the offense with 11:50 remaining in the 4th.

The offense then goes 3 & out. If we score here, the score would have been 21-30 Texans

Instead, they score a touch down 29-23 San Diego.

We get the ball, run 6 plays turn it over on downs again. This is the infamous 4 & 2 QB Sneak. If instead, we score here, the score would be 29-30 Texans.

So, it's 29-23 San Diego, our offense turns it over on downs, Giants get the ball. Our defense forces a 3 & out, get the ball back to our offense.

All they have to do is march 86 yards & score a touchdown.

Point is our defense did get the stops we needed at opportune times, just like vs Washington, & KC...... we just couldn't close it out.

Yes our offense screwed up, yes our defense had bad plays. Bottom line is we were winning that game, and at that point it is up to the coach to bring the win home.

It could be arguably said that we lossed this game because of two major coaching issuses. 1. Because we didn't have our team ready to kick the xtra point when Arian "dropped" the TD pass (go and look at how Green Bay handled a very reviewable TD they got when they stripped a ball on ST and returned it for the TD. Before the guy could get off the field the ST unit was out there for the kick.) When you think of how a year ago (yesterday to the date) we didn't beat Indy because when Ryan Moats fumbled and instead of hiking the ball or lining up for another play we let it go to 2 min warning and Indy gets to review the play, it really pisses you off.

2. Failing to pick up points early in the 4th as an insurance policy. Which would've at least helped us get into OT.

We've lost three out of the last four games. But I get it, the sun will come out tomorrow, right?

Of our first 8 games, 6 of them have been against teams with a top 10 offense, to date. Indy, Cowboys, Raiders, Giants, Indy, Chargers.

In our last 8 games, only 3 of them are against top 10 offenses. Jets, Eagles, Denver.

I think we'll be all right, it's not impossible for us to win.

Another thing, just in case our defense starts allowing less than 24 ppg, don't think it's because we've gotten better, more likely it's because our opponents have gotten worse.

Good point, I didn't think about that.

But my point was that even in that game, we made some stops at key moments, when we needed them. I'm not really blaming the offense. Those two TDs where KJ got burned just stand out to me, too bad. I'm putting this one on the defense.

& the coach.

We ain't the 1-7 cowboys.

well coached.....we couldnt have been watching the same game......we just couldnt be

so what???...is this what our fanbase really thinks and am I the problem or minority around here that thinks somebody should be help accountble for this team only playing half ball games at this late point in the season??

i get this totally...but what exactly do we have to go on seeing this team and this horrible defense.....with no improvement each week....even if its mininmal........to say that we will even remotely get hot???

especially with the titans, jags, ravens and jets coming up??....

Im suppose to believe that these defensive guys will magically grow a pair and punch the ravens and jets in the face finally???....with our season essentially on the line....... cuz those games will probably have tie breaker implications as well

TK it dont take a top 10 offense to light this defensive team up by the way....just a little fyi for ya man

we are the remedy for ANY OFFENSE to look like a top 10 against us...even if they havent all season....everybody has taken turns lighting up this defense every week...not just top 10 offenses

Perspective-schmeptive. It's not 1 game

I personally think that at the halfway point in the season, people are realizing this team's potential far exceeds their performance.

Year after year, this team has taken strides forward, yet has gone no where.

The start to this season had so much promise. Coming off a 4 game win streak to end '09, it stands to reason that expectations are going to be high.

But again, at the half way mark of '10, a good number of folks are of the realization that we aren't who we thought we were.

The perspective is this...At 4-4, there wins that shouldn't have been and there are losses that shouldn't have been. We don't know what we're watching from week to week. Hence the general source of many fan's frustration.

That kind of consistency will NOT win championships.... So, even if we do limp into the playoffs(insert Jim Mora quote), if you've been watching the same texans I have, a likely first round exit is nothing to hang your hat on.

But looking at the schedule ahead, to think we're sitting in the catbird seat is fool hearty. 4-4 actually puts this team behind the 8-ball, which HISTORICALLY is not a recipe for success.

I wish I knew some of the fools who looks ahead to weeks 11-15 and seem contempt that we're playoff bound. A suckers bet, I'd throw your way.

/perspective

Last season we had one of the best passing games in NFL so Gary K wants to run the ball. This year we have one of the best RB in NFL and Mr. K. wants to pass the ball. All we need to do is win out and we win division and get the playoffs. Then we can try to figure why it took so long to "fix" the problem. Oh, BTW, before I posted this I tried to run it by Kareem Jackson for comment. He tried to bump me and and was out of position.

Remember, this is about perspective.

We knew we were going to have defensive issues when we started the season. Without Cushing, we went 3-1 (good thing) but gave up 400 yards a game. Didn't think it would be that bad, but we were expecting to be bad. One of those games was against Washington, we managed to shut them down in the 4th Qtr. We managed to force a long field goal in OT..... those are good things.

We get Cushing back for the Giants game. We expected everything to be fixed, back to the way it was last year. That didn't happen. Outside of 3 very good series, we looked pretty bad. (Turns out, the Giants have the #4 rated offense in the league. Some of that may have to do with the 400 yards we gave them. But even if we had held them to 200 yards, they would still be the #4 offense in the league right now.)

Kansas City, should have been better. & we're playing good ball defensively. Held KC to 7 points till the last minute of the first half, when Demeco is carted off the field. No one likes excuses. We won that game, so it's not like we need excuses. Even without Demeco, even though we gave up 27 points, our defense made two key stops to allow us to go ahead & to seal the victory.

Indy in November....... 30 points on the score board, but in reality they only scored 23 points on our defense. To me, your defense didn't do crap unless they held the opponent to less than 21. But that was an improvement over the previous 5 games.

Chargers....... we looked bad. Pathetic even.

At the same time, I think we looked better in that game than in the 5 games before the Indy game.

We haven't played a game against someone who's offense is truly atrocious. The worst we've played was Washington & that was without Cushing & our rookies 2nd game.

Jax has the 23rd rated offense right now. If they put up substantially more than 311 yards a game, & more than 20 points.... then it's over.

San Diego averages 26.6 ppg & 420 ypg. They scored 29 on us & 367 yards.

Jacksonville may be 29th in total offense but i just picked up their TE lewis cause any tightend will murder our defense. IMO I see us having to score 30 points to beat this team. With Kubes playcalling i dont see that happening.

If we have to score 30 to beat the Jags, I'll sport the pink soap. & I'll stop throwing the sunshine (not that my opinion would change, I still think we'll look pretty good after 16 & in the play-offs.).

Im have hopes that we make the playoffs but they are hopes. Before the season i had a sure feeling that we would be in the playoffs and it has become into a hope. If we lose to jacksonville my hope will turn into a doubt:mariopalm:

You may wanna take that one back...

You're carrying a lantern, and naming it "sunshine" right now.

Against struggling teams, good teams that've clinched playoff berths and
are resting starter(s,) teams that've quit and are waiting for the offseason

None of those types of teams are on the schedule this year.

No more "smoke-n-mirror stats" with the Kubiak regime. Beat good teams
when they're still fighting you for a victory. Where's the beef?

8-18 vs AFC South; 8-22 vs Teams with winning records
over 4.5 SEASONS!!

FIX DIS $HIT!

And the previous 4 yrs they were

18-46 overall and 6-18 vs AFC South...

I agree, they need to FIX DIS $HIT!

And they have 4 div games left this year to do it.

By the numbers you just posted, he's well overdue to being fired
if he doesn't come through over the next 8.

I hope he's able to flip a switch, and become the coach this team needs;
however, I don't see the Atlantic Ocean becoming a desert tomorrow,
either.

I am willing to wait out the rest of the year. Like I said, he has... no the team has 4 division games to decide their future. Surely you don't advocate a midseason firing?

the lockout will change everything for the Current coaches its like the jackpot

becasue most of them will all get a free pass Owners will want to keep there Coaches around to hold everything together

Signed,

The 1993, 1-4 Oilers that finished the season with 11 straight wins to go 12-4

I don't advocate a midseason firing. I wanted him fired last year, and
am frustrated to have to suffer through a VERY predictable season.

Waiting on Kubes to surprise me, and it hasn't happened in 4.5 seasons.
There are no Seattle games to bolster the morale of this team. They've
got a schedule full of very good teams that are HUNGRY for wins.

The Texans ALWAYS get rolled by these types of teams. Kubiak coaches
SCARED everytime the Big Boys show up. Getting lucky with Foster ain't
saving this season.

....and it's a damn shame.

Ok, if you don't advocate a midseason firing, it doe no good to dwell on the negatives does it? :D

Even if you don't think they are going to make it this year, let us talk about what the team needs to do to improve...without the vinegar

We all know what needs to be done.

Kubiak will not sit Jackson, or move him to nickel.

Kubiak will not re-sign Reeves.

Kubiak WILL coach like a scared chicken against contending teams.

Kubiak must go, if the team is to have a hope of improving.

The evidence of this statement is 3 full seasons of .500 ball.

I'll save my suspension of dis-belief for when I go see Saw3D.

Watching that bloodbath is far more entertaining than the ones I'm
seeing on Sundays.

Ok. I get that. You think Kubiak needs to go. I am asking you to go beyond that and talk to me about what areas of the team needs to be addressed and why.

It is real easy to say :fix it". How do we fix it. Not askig which coach needs to be brought in I think, but what areas of the team? Why? How would you address it?
