Bing National Tailgating Championships

JWarren14

Beer Me
Not sure all the ins and outs of this competition, but just got word from a family friend that is one of the main members of RBT that they have been selected to compete.

Here is the link to the Press Release.

From the email sent to RBT

This competition will pit four top caliber Tailgate Teams against one another on November 7th, 2010 at Reliant Stadium, in a series of “Tailgate Competitions” that will include a skills, trivia, tailgate setup, and cooking competitions. Houston is one of six cities selected nationally to participate in this competition; as such the Houston National Tailgate Championship contest winner will then move on to participate in the final Bing National Tailgate Championship in Dallas, Texas on Super Bowl week against the other winners from the competing six cities to compete for the right to be the true National Tailgate Champion. The winner of the Houston competition will receive a stipend to cover travel expenses to compete in Dallas where a Golden Grill and other prizes will be up for grabs.

Make sure you show up on November 7th to let everyone know that Houston is the best city hands down when it comes to tailgating!

The golden grill, huh? Sounds like a step above the turkey statue Fox gives out at thanksgiving.

...and how many tailgates that win things AREN'T corporate sponsored? Not my bag...

Exactly... Ya'll do it pretty good over in the BC, and we do the same in the the Orange.. but ya know, sometimes you just can't beat a good ole' cheeseburger grilled with a side and a beer or two, and a whole lot of friends.. That to me beats a corporate sponsored tailgate bash 9 out of 10 times !!!

I'd rather have a burned burger cooked by a friend than a gourmet meal cooked by a hired gun (err, this ONLY applies to tailgating, lol).

Comercial Tailgate Guru this is for you, HEB here you go. We have had a 100 plus at game day for years and our group is top notch without the competitive comercial input. To me it would just create infighting and that is not what Tailgating is about. Tailgating is about the comraderie of Football Fans and not who is better than who. We the Blue Crew and Raging Bull showed what we could do when the Chron had a contest and we were excluded for weeks only to get in for a week and place third in the compitition. If we would have been in for the duration we would have shared a Bragging right with the raging Bull as we have the greatest spot on Reliant Grounds for a Tailgate spot.

Ragging Bull has sponsers Joe. They could compete with anyone on a National level, IMHO. All it takes is a big pot of money.

Judge Chamberlain Haller: That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection.
Vinny Gambini: Thank you, sir.

Judge Chamberlain Haller: Overruled!!!!

We all have "sponsors". Its called...YOUR WALLET.

Correctamundo!!

We started a cool thing (I think it was Katie and Kathryn that came up with it); we sell raffle tickets to BC members (not sure how much if any get sold to visitors). The winner gets half the proceeds and the other half is going to go towards, banners, tents and the Blue Crew community items.

Don't know about visitors, but I can attest to the fact that they sell to moochers and wandering drunks...:D

The Raffle came from the Hall of Fame we do it every year and it is a great success, Thanks to Ted and Kathrine for suggesting we do it here and thanks to kathrine, Jen Katie and all the other who help sell the tickets every week. You will be witnessing something this next tailgate if you have not noticed the sun screens that Katie so generously donated to us. We are determined to make the Blue Crew better for everyone that enjoys the blue crew.

I suggested to Kathryn, Jen and Katie that we open up a Blue Crew account at a bank so a) we can take the proceeds of the raffle stuff to score our new gear and b) so that some of us can throw a hundy once in awhile towards that goal, in addition to the raffle tickets....... just sayin'!

I think thats a great idea but I hardly believe you don't spend a dime on tailgating...therefore...you are a sponsor...

Right.... Well sorta. Blue Crew are ALL sponsors in that regard. Whether it's Joe donating the pinata, whether it's the Blue Crew game day shots, or whatever food is layed out on the tables at "the Corner" is all donated. We just do it out of our own pockets AND because we just want people come visit us and have an awesome time!!!!

I support Blue Crew monetarily as an individual, without putting out huge HEB signs and other corporate sign support. The fact that a guy a work with (our company) with and who is also a Blue Crewer, we have never used our company as a source for donations. What we do is straight out of our own pockets.

I hear ya...just trying to make a point. Technically we are all sponsors. I can't knock it...I od it myself. I consider it "the price of admission".

Exactly... That's the price we pay (above and beyond our tickets and parking passes)....

And you know what?? I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

BTW, I swear, I'm gonna come visit y'all!!!

The raffle thing is awesome! I know I was hoping to win yet glad the few bucks I spent on tickets was helping out the tailgate.

Mojo I came to visit a couple of years ago but the preachers sermon was well lets just say it ran a little longer that I like to get in the stadium. I had a blast just lost track of time, Should have counted the hole punches. Maybe me and Bill will walk over one game, we will leave early and stay late

My father is friends with all of the founders of RBT, I think all of them are all Jersey Village Alums, and it's pretty incredible that they are all still really close friends.

Most of them own their own businesses and put money up for most of the stuff that goes on there. They get some free meat and beer and some other game-to-game stuff, but it's not all "corporate," they don't hire cooks or bartenders to do their work, they do it themselves.

I understand that huge tailgates are not everyone's cup of tea, myself included, but from time-to-time I get my fix.

Isn't it policy that they are not allowed to allow corporate sponsored tailgates to compete in tailgater of the year competitions, etc?

Just because it's huge, doesn't mean it's corporate.

Yeah...he can sometimes be a little long winded...come earlier next time!!!!

I moreso mean the Joe Bob's Construction tent where they hire cooks and have 100's of pounds of meat and give a plate and beer to every JB that walkes by. To me, that's a rodeo cook off tent and not a tailgate. Just MHO.

(Bill, did you see what I did there?)

Well this blows,
The Texans contacted us yesterday via email to tell us we were selected for this contest, only to email us again today to say there "were some paths crossed" and we actually were not selected. Oh well, it was exciting while it lasted! Good luck to all the teams that make it-make Houston and all the tailgaters proud!!

:foottap:

I saw what you did there! :heh:

Truthfully, I've always wanted to compete for Tailgater of the Year. Just the competitive spirit in me I guess, but, thought it would be fun. Several years ago we decided, as a group I think, that we would not do this. Personally, I would LOVE to kick some tailgating butts, but, I'm also very happy with what we have going. We're a laid back, come as you are, do your own thang type of tailgate, and it works!

When I was in Buffalo the tailgate we visited invited us to purchase raffle tickets, if we wanted to. I was happy to do so, after all, they were gracious in taking care of us with food and drink, and most of all friendship!! I didn't win any money, but, if I had I would have given it back to the tailgate. My point is, maybe we should be more aggressive in trying to sell tickets to visitiors. Two Dr friends of mine attended the Cowboy tailgate, and much to my embarrassment, ask me where they could purchase raffle tickets to help our tailgate. They ask we when we were doing the drawing. My bad, and it won't happen again. Most fans are more than happy to help out in some way, esp since we do not accept money donations for food. I have some friends coming to the Raven tailgate who have already tried to get me to take money. I told them to buy raffle tickets instead. ONE day we're gonna get rid of those green and white tents!!:) J/K guys!! LOVE ya all, and don't know what I would do if I didn't have my Blue Crew family!!

Damn that's messed up!

Houston should fare well vs the other sites, I have been to a Broncos game, not even close to the tailgating we have here.

I love you Gma!! I'm competitive, too!! There are times where I want us to be the "Tailgater of the Year" too... That said, Joe "the Commish" Cahn, loves us and always makes it a point to stop by and visit Blue Crew.... I can live with that!! :)

As far as our raffle, if I ever did win, I would donate it right back to Blue Crew, anyway!! So let's all pray, I win the raffle!! :D

I watched that too Joe, and I totally agree!! Bet you a friggin raffle ticket or two that those freaking Raiders don't cook gourmet food at every tailgate. Truthfully, it was disgustiing!! I was pulling for the NINERS!! BUT, to the Raiders credit, I'm thinking about trying out that cake!:) Do ya think any of your Raider pals would send me the receipt?

When I visited the Blue Crew, it was the most comfortable feeling. I didn't feel like I was just a visitor, everyone was kind to me and my daughter, just as cool as can be. Ya'll are a great group, keep up the good work. :bravo:
