I'm not one to rant about the team, but...

They suck.

I need to get this off my chest.

I could care less about what our record is. I could care less that we beat the Colts wk 1. I don't care about the heroics in Washington.

None of that matters to me.

When you cannot consistently compete then you are a bad team.

The Texans have had two good games this year. The Colts and the Raiders...And they very easily could have lost to both teams despite playing well throughout most of the game.

I think that we have too much talent on this team to suck so much.

It starts at the top.

From the Owner who is too loyal and nice to shake things up, to the GM who is too afraid to make big deals, to the head coach who can not get his team fired up to play good football two games in a row, to the QB who couldn't find consistency if it was the only word in the dictionary, to Demeco who does not know how to get his defense fired up.

I have a problem with just about every aspect of this team ad the reason that it is frustrating is because I know that we are good enough to play with any team in the NFL.

One thing that really irritated me this week was a comment by Demeco. I tried to not let it bother me, after that loss, I am thoroughly convinced that this team is much too lethargic. They are reactors instead of actors. They are not the aggressors in any phase of the game. Instead, they wait to get slapped in the mouth before they wake up and decide to respond.

Someone asked Ryans about Cushing coming back and if that meant players would be more pumped up and playing harder. He responded saying, "No..If guys weren't already playing hard they don't deserve to be here".

Very lethargic answer.

Now don't get me wrong, what he said was absolutely true. BUT...I believe he played that completely wrong...

Pollard was talking up Cushing's return...Saying that another smash brother would be added...Talking about how opposing offenses better watch out...

As a leader I think Demeco needs to take that opportunity to energize his defense. "No, I don't think guys will play harder, but I think Cushing will energize us and I can't wait to get on the field with him so we can do what we do"...That would have been a better answer...

Like I said earlier, the Texans are slow reacting and just very lethargic in everything they do...They need an infusion of energy all the way around...We have a couple of guys that have that energetic, I'm coming for you, I will eat your face, Move the fu*k out of the way mentality...But the people in leadership roles on this team always seem to neutralize that energy.

Bob McNair...Demand that your team become more aggressive in every aspect from chasing free agents to making trades. Rick Smith, Don't be afraid to actually make a big move whether it be a big free agent signing, a big move in the draft, or a big trade. Kubiak...Don't be afraid to mix up the play calls and the formations...Can we please get more aggressive and creative on offense when the "regular" shyt ain't workin? Can we please do some aggressive things on defense? Do we even have ONE overload blitz in the playbook? Do we have anybody watching film and trying to attack opponents weaknesses?

And for Christ sakes...Demeco...Can you please not suck the energy out of your defense with all of this level headed bull shyt. I understand the approach, but this is not Richard Smith's defense anymore. We want to attack. We want rabid dogs out on the field, not a bunch of read and reactors. We don't mind guys making a few mistakes if they are out there flying around knocking the daylight out of anybody who dare try to advance the ball against them. Hell, you all are already making tons of mistakes as it is...Might as well stop worrying about that stuff so much and go out there and have fun...You guys play better like that...

Cushing had even toned down leading up to the game talking about how he wanted to make sure he was fundamentally sound and stuff. I'm pretty sure some coach got in his ear and said something like, "Brian, I know you're pumped to be back but I want to make sure you don't get too excited and cost us."

And of course instead of unleashing the tiger he looked like the pink panther creeping along so methodical in his approach.

It's gotten to the point where I can pretty much predict how this season will go.

We'll come out next game ultra fired up. We'll beat the Chiefs for 3 1/2 quarters and they'll make it close in the end. Bye week. We'll come and play poorly for the first half against Indy, then we'll make a furious comeback..We may win we may lose...depends on the focus towards the end. Then the next game we'll come out and play poorly. Wash, rinse, repeat.

QFT! That was my reaction. I felt going into this game that the team seemed to be taking the same approach they did with Dallas.

Ya, having a level-headed player as one of your leaders is a terrible thing, right? Stupid Ryans, he should have said that we weren't playing very hard because we were missing one of our better players. I can't believe he screwed that one up so bad...:sarcasm:

I guess you missed my point.

I didn't say I disagreed with what he said.

It was just a very lethargic, ho-hum, just another day at the office answer. I felt that as a leader of a struggling defense, you should take that opportunity to fire your people up.

It's hard to explain, but even though you are trying your hardest doesn't mean you can't do better.

What you think may be your hardest, may not actually be. Little psychological things like a key teammate coming back should trigger even more adrenaline in your body.

I didn't see that Sunday. Looks like they wanted to treat Cushing's return as just another day in the work place.

As a result, they came out with no energy. Demeco leading the pre-game rah, rah stuff = FAIL.

This team is not a team wins because of their superior playbook, or because they have a bunch of savvy vets...Or because they have a QB that is going to consistently move the Chains...

That is not us...We win games because we come out and play fired up football...We win games when we come out and we jump on the opponent instead of waiting for them to jump on us...We win games, when our LB's and D-line are moving forward and attacking...

We don't win games taking a methodical approach. We are not that kind of team, and someone over there on Kirby needs to realize that.

We have to come out super jacked up or we will probably lose. The End.

Even if you look back to the Cowboys game....

Demeco: It's just another game. We don't care if it's Dallas. That stuff isn't important to us...

Yeah, Demeco...I can tell...

I agree with you that right now we just flat out suck. Brian wasn't energized and I think everyone is on pins and needles crossing our fingers behind our backs hoping that what he was suspended for isn't true.

That being said, Brian had I believe 9 tackles, which is more than respectable. There's wasn't much fire in his play and he looked slow, but he was able to make solid plays. Just keep in mind that he's 4 games behind everyone else and it will be a few games before he really gets up to speed.

EDIT: Sorry, it was 4 solo and 1 assisted tackle.

I'm not really complaining about anybody's actual play (in this thread), but more so their lack of focus and fire.

I am not upset with how Brian played yesterday...He was hitting hard, and he was making tackles (some after the guy had already passed him up)...

I'm just not pleased at all with the ho-hum attitude of the team overall. We have some guys who look like they are fired up, but a majority of the team is not.

When a team is fired up it resonates through everyone...You can even see it on special teams...

Normally, if you look flat in every single aspect, then something was wrong with your preparation and approach...

I can understand on unit looking bad...But we sucked everywhere...

They were not fired up enough...period...

OK, so let's say I'm a Colts fan a month ago:

This team sux.

Our D can't stop the run at all and our coach needs to be fired. What kind of ***** puts THAT D on the field? We have Peyton freaking Manning and we can't beat the Texans? Why do we pay our safety all that freaking money against the cap when he plays one game a year?

What the F&*(?

Fire the coach!

The NFL has parity now and it's driving us crazy. Get used to it....unless the players union gets too much power.

So....

Parity is defined as getting ***** slapped to the tune of 27-13 and 34-10 in your own house two games in a row?

I love this parity stuff.:choke:

I got ya. I understand where you're coming from, I was just trying to say that it might take Brian a few games to reach that point because he's focused on getting into a rhythm.

The greatest musicians say that when they're onstage playing basically they're just running a "background program" in their mind and going off of instinct. They are able to practice all the time to be able to keep this mindset. I think Brian just needs to get a few games under his belt before that instinct kicks in (assuming he returns to form, of course). Until then, the fire that we're used to will be a little dimmer while he has to consciously focus on the various aspects of his game.

LMAO....I've noticed the same pattern for years. I was hoping they broke out of that this year with that 2-0 start, but again I got fooled by the Texans consistently being inconsistent....wuh-wuh-wuh.

Hey, Dallas is :just another game" right fellas......that still pisses me off....:rake:

When the Colts played us, they didn't suck in every aspect.

Their offense played good and their special teams was respectable. And on top of that, their defense only sucked stopping the run. They still got a pick and some sacks and hits on Schaub.

That's something to be encouraged about. Something to build on.

YESTERDAY WE SUCKED IN EVERY ASPECT.

That means our approach to that game was bad. Why do you think Kubiak said he needed to evaluate how he got the team ready?

He doesn't say that after every loss...

Just when every unit sucks. They were not nearly focuses enough or angry enough for yesterdays contest.

I don't care if we lose if my team comes out and plays hard. In the last two years when we have lost, it has mostly been because of (a) lack of focus and/or (b) no fire.

I don't think I'd compare the history of Colts with Houston. Indy has an "exectation" they will win and when they do not fans & team expect it to be turned around immediately. We do not have that. This is a very lethargic team. Reminds me of the guy who straggles at work but gets lit up by his boss and for a couple weeks or so does semi-ok until he slides back into lethargy.

Am I the only one that watched Cushing before the first defensive snap? Dude was jumping up and down and was all amped up. I think even the crowd played off of that and got louder before Eli snapped the ball.

They came out of the gates fine...

Sustaining that energy for at least a quarter would have been nice...

That pretty much sums it up, without my long rant...

Doesn't seem like the team gets fired up until they are against the wall...

Great post Rey.

I'm not one to rant either but I'm starting to come to the realization that defensively, we're just not very good.

No more hope that our guys are going to "turn it around", no more wishful thinking. WE FLAT OUT SUCK ON DEFENSE.

Anyone not named Mario and Antonio feel like getting some penetration in the backfield? Didn't Amobi lose weight to be quicker so he can put more pressure on the QB? Where's the relentless pursuit???!

I don't think I've ever been so distraught after a loss. I think I've finally seen the writing on the wall, that we have weeks where we can beat anyone, and weeks where we wouldn't be able to stop Ohio State's passing attack.

For Christ sakes Kubiak....come out and say, "Enough bullshit, we're coming out swinging next game. We're no longer taking this crap from other teams who want to pass all over our defense. If we can't find a way to get it done, we'll find someone who will." *looking at Frank Bush and David Gibbs*

The poor play and decision making drove me a long time fan away from the Astros. I'd rather hang out by the pool and hope a pretty girl walks by than watch a team play like this.

I am not happy about the loss, it pisses me off frankly. Simply for the fact the Texans could have been 4-1, still one game ahead in the AFCS but 3 games over .500

They do not suck. It's overreaction monday on team forums right now and realistically the Texans are in good shape. The Saints are 3-2 and just lost to a rookie QB who just had his first start. If the Texans win the next two games everyone here will be singing a different tune.

With that said there are things that should worry us, it's pass defense and pass offense. Our pass defense is ridiculous. Remember those years our oline was so terrible? This Pass defense is worse than that.

But this is something we knew, or should have known coming into the season. What I am really worried about is that every NFL team has a weakness, yet we seem to be the only one that can't hide it. We pretty much let the other team take advantage of it.

I still have faith in this team, they just have not put it together. On offense at least, I admit I don't have much faith in the defense.

Not because of the talent, but mainly because of the Coordinator, we come out passive against Eli barely blitzing. Every team in the NFL knows you can rattle Eli, you can't just let him sit back and pick you apart like that especially when your secondary is that bad. You rush 4 you give your CBs more time...more time to make mistakes. The front 7 of this team has the talent to get pressure on the QB, it's about time they start doing it and if Kubiak wants this team to make the playoffs he should think about getting a new guy for defense.

Might as well be now (although I know it won't happen) since our defense is pathetic right now any ways.

I have faith the offense pass wise will get it together. Once Andre feels good on that ankle, once Brown gets back who was great in the run game I feel confident we'll go back to being the explosive offense we should be.

Am I the only one that watched Cushing before the first defensive snap? Dude was jumping up and down and was all amped up. I think even the crowd played off of that and got louder before Eli snapped the ball.

Yeah, I don't think there was a problem with Cushing & lack of fire & all that.

The defense was what we expected, the offense lacked fire. I don't understand why so many people are being so hard on our defense.

Mario sums up or defense more than anyone else. People just like to point at Okoye to blame. Mario was getting blocked by tight ends yesterday.... Mario has all the talent in the world, but he just only plays every other game much like our team.

We better give a good effort to sign Champ Bailey in the offseason....

EDIT: And as far as our team lacking "fire" why don't you look at Mr. Singletary who is winless vs Mr. emotionless (belichek)

Don't know how much I would push to sign a 33 yr old cb that is going to want big money.

I don't know if he is going to want big money because he has gotten big money all his career. I also don't know who is going to pay him a huge lump of cash. I do know he is a HOF and still got 2-3 good years in his tank and could teach our young guys a thing or two...

ps Charles Woodson is 34.

Singletary doesn't benefit from the services of Tom Brady or his team would be a winner. They have the defensive talent to be contenders, which is remarkable in the short term Singeltary has been a head coach.

As far as Mario, I doubt he was 70% healthy yesterday. He shouldn't ever get manhandled, but someone else needed to step up. That's why I brought up Okoye and his weight loss.

The Houston Texans are 3-2...so at this point they do not "suck." I do have grave concerns about their combined inability to generate a consistent pass rush and defend intermediate routes.

But all this about "being competitive" stuff week in and week out stuff, trying to hold the Texans to some standard or whatever, I have to say that I think NFL teams in general are very competitive at their level. And at that level, there are always peaks and valleys, especially in this season/era of great parity.

You were not impressed by the victory over the Redskins? To be down 27-10 in a tough stadium, by what is apparently a tough Washington team, and finding ways, making big plays down the stretch to pull out a win...I mean, that doesn't "suck" what the Texans did that day.

You are doing the "what if" regarding victories over the Colts and Raiders? The Texans dominated those teams and while moments got sketchy toward the ends of those games, Houston never really lost control.

Remember, that same Colts team just flat pancaked the very same Giants, 41-10 a few weeks ago. (Giants also got whacked by the Titans, 29-10 too.) Remember the Raiders just recently beat those supposedly elite Chargers as well!

Competitive, schmepetitive. In this NFL era, you're just going to have a couple Sundays or so when you're going to have your a-- handed to you. The Texans are not exempt. They've indeed had their butts handed to them a couple times now. That doesn't mean they suck. They just simply have to execute better, put the bad games behind and win more games ahead.

"Competitive?" The Dallas Cowboys racked up 500 yards of O against the Titans last Sunday...they owned TOP 36 to 23 mins. Yep. They still lost. The Cowboys were about as competitive as they could be. You think Cowboy fans still appreciated their team being "competitive" after that loss?

"Competitive?" Even in the NFL of yesteryear, when there were still truly dominant teams, even the 15-1 1985-86 Chicago Bears got their butts handed to them 38-24 in one game. Just totally blown out.

I wonder about these "fans" who think their team should be so perfect every single down, every single quarter. NFL players do have talent but they aren't machines.

That being said, yeah, the Texans better find a way to pressure the quarterbacks more consistently. The Texans overall offense was 4th heading into the NY game, but despite the observation of it being "off", I take the view that this new balanced dynamic between run and pass is still being worked out and will get better as the season progresses. Add to the recovery time needed for Andre and Owen too. Owen Daniels has been looking better too...so he's getting there.

Don't know how much I would push to sign a 33 yr old cb that is going to want big money.

I.e. Aaron Glenn... Not so much the money aspect, as the age aspect. He gave us three good years, but he was released when? When he was around 33 (ish). I'm not sure his career went very well in Dallas, Jacksonville and New Orleans after that. Just sayin'!

Although, he might be an upgrade right now. :D

If we could get him right now? Yeah. But in the offseason, and you know he is going to be looking for top 5 money?

I would like to have him here as an on-field coaching asst. But I don't think the Texans will even consider it, and I'm ok with that.

That's why I kinda wished they wouldn't ever have let him get away. Transition him to a nickel, meanwhile he could've embarked on his coaching endeavor, transitioning into a full on coaches role.

Glenn? Yeah, I wish they would have kept him around for that role also.

The thing about your statement here is that you're neglecting a couple of things:

First, we are people who pay hard earned money for entertainment. We're not spending our valuable time/money to feel like crap because the team we root for laid one of the biggest turds of the year. On the road is one thing...but at home when you have to shell out hundreds of dollars to take your family to a game? Yeah, that's garbage.

Second, no one is expecting the Texans to be perfect. We expect "competitiveness". You seem to define it differently than I do so let me explain: By "competitiveness" I'm not talking about the numbers on the scoreboard. I'm talking about a desire to win. A need to succeed. Hell, if nothing else I'm talking about pride. Where were the Texans' pride when they were being manhandled 21-0? It wasn't anywhere to be found...in fact, people have been saying players (e.g. DeMeco) were smiling on the sideline after the Giants TD that put them up 21-0.

As a fan, that is embarassing. I don't spend my time and money to watch my team get blown out and not care. There is no excuse for that. Maybe they get millions of dollars to play a game and get upset if they lose...but us fans are emotionally invested in this team. Players will come and go, most of us will not. These players don't get that we have suffered through all these bad seasons and are sick of hearing in just about every game we watch about how we've never even made the playoffs. A lot of fans of winning teams (whether they're bandwagoners or not) love to pick on fans of teams like us because we've never been anywhere.

I chose to be loyal to the Houston Texans before they ever played a game, like most of you. I chose this because I wanted to be a fan of a team that I could enjoy rooting for as they built a championship. I didn't want to be like all of my friends who are Cowboys fans and talk about their "history" as though they were even there. What have the Texans given us in return?

I don't care what our record is.

If we were to play the 49ers (0-5) after we play the Chiefs (of course we'll come out strong after that ass whoopin), I'd seriously put my money on the 9ers...

They are overall a better team than us despite our record....JMO

I'm not one of these fans. And I'm not sure why you put fans in quotes anyways.

I have never crashed on the team like this. But I could not hold it in after that loss. That performance was the ultimate demonstration of suckitude and sorryness. I was able to let it go after the Dallas game...Hey everybody has off days...

But this is a recurring theme with the Texans. Laying an egg once is understandable. But the Texans have a proven track record of not performing up to their talent level..(maybe you missed that part of my OP)

Coming out and performing the way the have in some of these games over the past couple of years speaks to the fact that it's something deep down in the core of these players and coaches and management that they need to get figured out. This wasn't a one time event for this team.

It has become a pattern.

Didn't Glenn just retire as a Texan? Isn't he a Texans ambassador? Already on the payroll?

A little while back, ND Kalu said that Glenn would have come back to be a mentor type if the Texans wanted him to. He said he knew for a fact that Glenn would have done it.
