ESPN First Take MVP Awards

The Pencil Neck

Hall of Fame
So, Kordell Stewart and Warrick Dunn are asked who they think the MVP award for the first quarter of the season should go to.

Warrick Dunn says: Matt Schaub. He says that Schaub is a superstar and he showed it during the 4th quarter comeback against the Redskins. He said that fear of the passing attack is what's making our running game go.

Kordell Steward says: Arian Foster. (And then they show a highlight of Ward. :) ) He of course mentions the 6+ ypc.

Defensive Player of the year:

Dunn: Mario. He's really manned up and held down the fort with Cushing out. A force.

Stewart: Clay Matthews. 7 sacks.

Rookie of the year:

Dunn and Stewart: Bradford. Showing unusual maturity.

I was surprised by all the Texan love.

Ooops...

DASH Award:

Dunn - Foster. He dinged him for being benched and said that he's a real "system" guy.

Stewart - Reggie Wayne.

I would put Foster above Schaub as far as the Texans go.

I think Manning has been the closest thing to an MVP this year though along with Vick.

Defensively I'd have to look at a lot of the stats and stuff, but Mario is up there and Mathews easily is as well. Pollard to me, has been right there as well.

I think Manning has held that team together with duct tape, so yeah. We have alot of talent, so it's hard to give us an MVP.

On defense, I'd have to say Clay Matthews.

On offense, I'll go with Arian Foster. I do agree he's a system guy, but he's doing his job the best it can be done if he's the #1 rusher in the league. You can't argue when the guy is on track to break league records.

Honorable mentions: Antonio Gates, Kyle Orton, Bernard Pollard, James Anderson.

And while we're at it, ROTY:

Offense: Jahvid Best, Sam Bradford.

Defense:Earl Mitchell, Ndamukong Suh.

On offense I'd have to go with Vince Young. I know his numbers aren't great but all he does is win and when he is not winning it is not his fault, it's Fisher's fault for not letting Vince be Vince.

On defense .... man, I have to go with VY again because he really motivates his entire team. The Titans defense are a lot of young guys and no names however they are playing real well. That would not be happening without Vince on the sidelines.

I don't think Foster is a system guy. Now, this system definitely works well with his cutting ability, but his combination of vision/power/speed would go well in any system.

I'll go you one further. He's a future hall of famer.

Right.

I don't know what a system is, exactly. Does that mean having an offensive line that opens holes even I could run through? Uh, no...because those gigantic holes are there for about 1/2 of a second and they can appear in any one of several spots along a five yard front--and you have to be able to predict where that hole is going to develop, and have the burst to take advantage of your vision. The O-line is doing a great job, but in addition Foster is making it work better than the other guys.

Every "system" is designed to create holes for the RB.

I can't remember a back with vision as good as Fosters. He almost never misses a hole.

I like to look at it in different ways... not necessarily the way they receive votes.

For the Texans:
Best Player? Andre Johnson (best all around football player)
Most Valuable Player in terms of Investment? Arian Foster (cost to production)
Most Valuable Player in terms of NEED? Matt Schaub (Key to Offense/Team Succes)

Vince Young is the Greatest Football Player of All Time. He invented football.

Okay now you're going too far!!

Diehard 'Horns fan but since VY left and signed to the Flaming Tacks he is no longer a 'Horn...

So...what do you have now???

Vince has already been voted to the NFL HOF by secret "supplemental" ballot. It happened early in his rookie year after it became obvious to the league that Vince deserved it. It just hasn't been officially announced because the league fears that all the other untalented crybabies who have to wait 5 years before they're eligible will make a stink about it.

But Vince knows and that's all that matters.

Didn't he also win the Noble Peace prize?

I remember Skip Bayless saying that Young was going to win multiple Super Bowls and end up in the HOF and it was just another indication of how idiotic the Texans were that they didn't pick him #1.

:wadepalm:

Like we needed more reasons to hate the Titans. I am such a Cowboys fan this weekend.

Vince won the Nobel Peace prize because watching him play is so beautiful that no one wants to fight anymore. In fact, Obama has just announced a new strategy for Afghanistan to show replays of VY's game on large screen TVs near the Pakistan border to make peace with the Taliban and al Quida. They were also supposed to show VY replays during the Mideast peace summit they just had, but apparently some junior staffer showed Kerry Collins games instead and the whole thing when down the tubes.

Well, it's hard to fight when you are laughing at VY's game and facial expressions when he screws the pooch...

Nah, Titans lose and Cowboys fall apart later. AFC South needs to belong to us.

Here, Here-Reps all around for this!!

The 'Girls can be screwed later-this (and the Dolts game) will be the only time I root for them.

I'm also a huge KC fan this week!

Texans win, Indy and Tacks loose-Texans stay in first place with the Jags in second!!

I can see the Tacks going down. I see this as the week that the Chiefs' fanatasy season takes a tumble. I don't see them going into Horseheads house and leaving with a W. Colts are coming off an embarassing loss in Jaxnville, playing at home against the house of cards Chiefs. Big win Indy. But I'd be shickled titless if the Chiefs win. :splits:

It would be interesting seeing the Colts with a 2 game losing streak in the middle of the season, when the games matter.

The thing about the Titans Cowboys game is that I will be happy with the results, whatever the outcome.

Yeah, pretty much. I don't think the Titans will be in the playoffs this year, so I don't mind them picking up a game this weekend, especially against the Cowboys. But like you said, either way works for me.

What would be really nice is a tie. LOL
