Chron: Angry Kubiak says Texans 'have to regroup'

alphajoker

Veteran
"It's not one individual," Kubiak said. "It's a group thing. Glover (Quin) has to play better. Brice has to play a lot better. The safeties have to play better, too."

Wonder why KJ wasn't called out? Speaking of the safeties, I would really like to see Troy Nolan get some playing time. Wilson really pissed me off when he dropped that pick six chance. Nolan is a ballhawk and may have made that play if given the chance. Just my :twocents:

link

He was actually way more descriptive and calling out people by name in the presser, which is unusual. I bet he laid it into them in their meetings. Pollard kinda referred to it.

Say what ya want. I went to the link and read what Kubiak had to say. I didn't see one hint of :

"it's on me."

"I didn't have the guys ready to play."

yada, yada

What I read said to me that he's done his job. Admitted they went young in the secondary. My point is he's saying the players have to play. If they play up to the level they're coached to they'll be OK. A pass on the first hickey but don't do it again. We'll see what happens.

Has been mentioned in a few other threads about a Troy Nolan sighting. I agree I'd like to see that as well. What's it gonna hurt? Sure haven't watched any pleasent Wilson sightings

Glover and Brice are veterans at this point, so expectations are higher. Expectations are not high for KJ.

We'll all be chanting for Nolan until he starts making newbie mistakes too.

Lets just pray the Nolan experiment works out better than the Busing one. Rmemeber how loud the fans were for him?

Bring back Petey, and CC??! Couldn't do worst than the above mentioned players!! All of them STINK, and any coach in the NFL should know how to game plan for us. Just throw into the secondary, easy yardage!!

Yeah....well....we'll keep cheering for the next guy until we get THE guy. Wilson served a purpose and now it's time to switch again. I think it'll be Barber's last shot but he's up first.

Kubiak has not done his job until he cuts somebody. THAT would be what I call angry. He's a pushover.

Kibiak: blah blah angry blah blah

The Media: blah blah Cowpatties Great blah blah

The Fans: blah blah pissed blah blah

Geeezzzz, it's like reading war & peace. What a blabber mouth. Kind of have a way with a fraze though.

Ok, we'll all stop talking about the embarrassing loss to our in-state rivals on our own turf. Totally not worth talking about.

how do you take a rookie and put him into his 3rd game and not send help his way only to let him get burned time and time again. Hell with Dunta we would have at least got a theatracle arm flailing after the burn. We got out coached in the secondary and can fix things maybe. I am beginning to wonder if it is a defensive coordinator that was out drinking the night before or was it that we had to have another game like new orleans preseason.

combine this with absolutely no pass rush and you have a pass defense nightmare, but I will give it to Romo he made some nice throws when he needed to.

Jackson was a 1st round pick. Expectations are always high for 1st round picks. I expect Jackson to play much better as the season wears on, because he has the tools. I just think the suggestion that he was more pro ready than the other rookies was a crock.

I'd prefer Nolan's mistakes of inexperience to Wilson's physical inabilities. At least it's possible that Nolan could get better. Wilson can only get worse from here on.

Totally agree, hand a player or 2 their pink slips and tell them to clean out their locker and you should get the teams attention. Find some street FA's to replace them and serve notice to the team.

I'm upset about that as well. I was just trying to inject a little humor into the thread. Perhaps it was my choice of smilies?

This whole deal has shades of 2009 except its the pass instead of the run. Not saying that Cush will fix everything, but maybe he frees BP up a little to stop running all over the field.

Last year after game three things seemed to click (besides adding BP), maybe this year we'll get the pass under control in week 4 on. Remember how pissed we were over giving up like 10,000 yards rushing in 3 weeks.

Also the Offense always starts off a littl slow. So at least this year we have a chance of bieng 3-1 after four games and on our way to respectability.

Pollard had 16 tackles yesterday??? That is BAD. He's a freaking SAFETY!
Where in the hell was the front seven?

Just watched the Kubiak press conference on HT.com

He's no longer "aww shucks, it's on me." No more podium tapping.
Looks like a man who KNOWS his job is on the line starting WEEK ONE.

Every game matters this season. Let's hope his team gets the message.

Not sure if you've been watching but rookie CB Kyle Wilson (ya know.. that guy everyone thought we shoulda drafted) has also been getting thrown at and repeatedly beaten.

It happens. If you trot a rookie CB out there, expect the QB to test him, and more times than not, expect him to get burnt.

I think after drafting:

Ramon Walker
Demarcus Faggins
Curry Burns
Dunta Robinson
Glenn Earl
Vontez Duff
Jammal Lord
C.C. Brown
Fred Bennett
Brandon Harrison
Antwaun Molden
Dominique Barber
Brice McCain
Troy Nolan
Kareem Jackson
Sherrick McManis

we should probably re-evaluate what talents are needed to become a decent addition to the secondary.

Yep. I saw him on Channel 13 last night, and I heard him on the radio this afternoon driving home from work. This ain't the same old Kubiak. This guy has some stones. He is not playing around, and knows that the stakes are extremely high this season.

We will see. As others have said, I think the one way to send a message is to flat out start cutting people.

Ditto on the new Kubiak, just watched the presser from yesterday and I'm impressed. Not that it means that all is peachy, but knowing that the HC's on fire after a lackluster performance from offense, defense and special teams make me feel somewhat better. It gives me hope that changes WILL happen.

Am I the only one not seeing any of the trademark OD passes over the middle, we did have a bit during garbage time, but during the game when we were actually in it, I do not recall seeing much of the short passes. It was either a run or a long pass...

Good post, as a team our sack and interception numbers are historically poor.

Any stat guys happen to know if we have ever been in the top half of the league in either? It feels like we haven't. Every year it seems like we are needing to generate more pass rush and force more turnovers.

Kiwi, I don't think they have been top half in their history.

It's all the more reason to play someone like Nolan instead of Wilson. Wilson certainly doesn't add anything to create turnovers.

Where in the hell was the front seven?

There was a front seven?

The Texans' D has 5 sacks on the season Mario has 4 of them. Smith has a half and Nading has a half. The other half of both of those?....Mario. Basically Mario has all 5 sacks damn near by himself, and the other 3-5 guys playing on the line are just dancing with the stars. For this defense to get better someone has to step up on that line and do something.

And of course we all know, we are near the top of the league in pass attempts against us. I mean damn, even if you're a below average d-lineman you should accidentally get a few sacks if you rush enough times. I know it's not ALL about sacks, and we can't judge everyone off of one stat, but I think it tells a lot.

I hate to bring it up but until we fix things I really feel we need to be drafting DLine. OLine too for that matter.

Good teams have strength in the trenches, and consistently draft for those areas.

What really irritates me is that we actually did get loads of pressure on Manning, but against Romo we have... none?

Three possible reasons, 1: coaching, 2: players 'commitment', 3: opponent coaching.

1: It's our coaches fault for not getting the players ready and gameplan around what we expect our opponents to do.

2: Our players have a hard time keeping up the mental 'steam', losing focus and taking 'games off'.

3: Opposing teams HC's are good at figuring us out, gameplanning to take advantage of our tendencies.

I'm thinking it's a little bit of all three, but mostly #2.

I think I agree with your post except for the bolded. KJ is not a cover or shutdown CB. He is a banger that is pretty good within 20 yards of the LOS. The long TD he gave up was because he missed his "chip" on the WR and slipped down. He did catch up better than I thought he could.

Wilson has to use his experience to make up for declining skills. As of today, we need a good FS and a cover or preferably shut down type CB; regardless of what Nolan and KJ develop into.

Wonder why KJ wasn't called out? Speaking of the safeties, I would really like to see Troy Nolan get some playing time. Wilson really pissed me off when he dropped that pick six chance. Nolan is a ballhawk and may have made that play if given the chance. Just my :twocents:

Because KJ is the rook & he's the 1 guy who needs his confidence protected by kubes right now. It may also just be that he genuinely feels/knows that it's not all KJ's fault. After Roy Williams' 1st TD, 1 of the cb's near to the play looked back at Wilson with the "WTF?" hand expression as if he was expecting him to be there. It's things like that kubes is looking at.

The big difference is Kyle Wilson has the hips to turn and cover or "mirror" the WR and KJ has not shown that. I don't get upset if a player gets beat as that happens and can be corrected as it is often a mental mistake or rookie error. KJ would have not looked so bad if the FS had been in range of the WR over the top. That is a D.C. mistake imo.

Move Quin to FS (he was rated #7 in nation) put a cover CB @ #1 and move KJ to #2 except to play nickle and you will have a great secondary. Until then we have to hope the front 7 recover or offense outscores the opponent.

O do like how angry Kuniak sounded at his Monday presser. He showed more fire, IMO. I also will disagree about his coaching Sunday. It was a total team effort loss, but I don't think the team was poorly coached.

I had predicted TEs, Walter and passes to RB would win this game. I'll never know if I was right.

How is it that the Ravens lost both of their CB' and HOF FS (Ed Reed) and they still have a top tier defense? This is in addition to losing their DC (Ryan) to the Jets?

These are the kind of questions that need to be asked of the Texans organization. Starting at the top. ( McNair Smith,Kubes etc...)

Right now I would advocate trading up and drafting either Peterson or A.Williams and moving Quin to FS.

Those guys have a chance to be great CB's. Which would make KJ more effective as a no.2 CB.

KJ is miscast as a no.1 CB. He was a reach. IMHO (As Wilson would've been)

Dont mean to highjack thread and turn this into a draft discussion.

because Hali Ngata, Ray Lewis, and Terrell Suggs still play for that team. Pressure the QB, he can't get precise with his throws. Bottom line.

If you notice, many of the corners that leave Baltimore don't do a whole lot on their new team if that new team doesn't have a pass rush.

:peek: Maybe it's a rare few, but some of us understand your humor! The ones that don't can Kist yo' ........!

Having MW, Cush and Ryans should be the = of the trio at applying pressure to the QB. IMHO

With that said I've always said fix the trenches first. The Texans have chosen to go another route. Time will tell who's right. So far it doesn't look all that promising.

They shouldn't give up 400 yds passing to the Raiders. If that happens that would be reason to panic.

Since we have such a Holy Defence it is ok that our offence cannot get into the endzone untill garbage time. That is BS and Duane Brown Is an a hole. He left us High and dry and he should be on the bubble when he comes back.
This whole team did a suck ass job and were ill prepared for the Cowboys. Kubiak is pissed at the players and I am pissed at Kubiak, Prepare your team to Score touchdowns, especially when you get the ball on the 1 yard line.

Couldn't have said it myself.
