Pretty much all you have to do against this D right now is quick drop and pass/screen/fake pass-draw run. And you can do it over and over and over again because the D won't pick up on it. The coverage doesn't begin until 5 yards later, if at all so quick passes are always open, screens and draws are like the most confusing, thumb pulling off magic trick that a defense has ever seen so they go for big yards over and over. Really.
Take a gamble jumping a quick route once in a while. Romo looked like friggin Manning out there throwing short passes all over the place.

seems like shades of last year, when the Texans blitzed, it fooled no one and instead of having 4 guys rushing and getting stopped, we get 6 guys getting bunched up in the middle and getting stopped.. I think the only time I saw us win a one on one battle was when mario got the sack (however it was taken away when Romo grounded the ball) *edit* take that back Smith got to tackle barber for a loss on one play

And yet the coaching staff doesn't use him in that type of coverage. We prefer the 8 yard cushion.

Ummmm... did you miss one of Roy William's TDs? I forgot which one, but it came off bump & run coverage on KJ.
Right now, our coverage is sort of pick your poison. Press coverage and give up the big play? Or give a 5-10 yard cushion and give up the easy 5-10 yard play.

The play that Jackson gave up the TD was when he was trying to get "physical" at the line. He tried, got manhandled and fell, giving up the easy TD. That kid has a LONG way to go in a short amount of time. We can't afford to give up this kind of yardage and points, week after week.
I'm VERY concerned about this D, from every position. Our LB core right now is dismal. Our D-line is stopping the run, but absent from the pass rush (at least today). Our secondary is the worst part, by far. I know Cushing brings a lot of swagger, but I'm worried that he won't be able to energize this defense enough to get over their lackluster play.
We better fix our offense problems too, 'cause we better expect to put up 30+ points a game to win. We've given up a minimum of 24 points in 3 games, IIRC. No good.
Get Cushing back, with his QB pressuring and ability to help in coverage, and a lot of these ills will be cured. He's smarter and quicker than anyone else they have. Meco didn't have a very good game today, as they constantly got caught with their pants down on delay draws. They should've seen that coming.

Man this whatever defense scheme the texans are running is freakin horrible enough said. Frank Bush make up your damn mind are we a 4-3 under defense or a 3-4 defense!!!!!! Please the 4-3 under or cover 2 crap is horrible. THe texans get the most pressure we go too the 3-4 look with Mario standing up like an outside linebacker. PLEASE find some safeties to help the young cornerbacks out and stop playing them man to man because we have no safeties that read and cover. THe defense gave up 400 yards passing the 1st 2 games.

The scheme's fine. The players suck. Today we saw what we already knew, to be perfectly honest. We have two good DEs, but no DTs. We have a couple good LBs, but we miss Cushing. We have young, inexperienced, and probably not starter-caliber CBs. We have one safety that plays in the box well, but is weak in coverage, and he's complemented by a safety that doesn't play in the box well and is poor in coverage.
What's your scheme idea?
Personally, I don't see much they can do, but I'd start with putting Nolan in there.

Why do people think we low-balled Schobel? The Texans made him an offer, he stayed retired. End of story. Dude has made a ton of money and maybe is just tired of the abuse his body has taken. Let it go.

Sadly, Cushing is the only LB capable of giving the Texans a legitimate shot
at playing 4-3 Under. They don't have any linebacker fast and strong enough
at the point of attack to consistently knock the tight end off the line of
scrimmage.
Bush can't do what he wants to do without Cush.

It ain't the scheme its the players & honestly i wouldn't mind seeing what Nolan & Molden can do right now. hell give J. Reeves a call. Anything to get Jackson off of 1 of the starting slots right now...what's the worst that could happen, giving up 400+ yds passing and a few tds?

Our CBs can't handle big WRs. They did well on Austin, but in single-coverage, Bryant and Williams (of all people) made them their bitches.
Amobi Okoye is a bust, no matter how many people make excuses. His poor play leads to DeMeco getting killed on running plays.
Also, trying to run USC's Elephant package with Mario was a mistake.

Cushing isn't going to fix all that... Don't place your bets on that,a nd his coverage skills on TE's isn't all that great either. Hopefully Frank Bush figures out how to BLITZ..

Before you all dismiss how much impact one player (Cushing) can have on the defense, look at the Steelers with Polamalu. Now I'm not saying Cushing is as good as Polamalu, but last year he was top 3 at his position and he has a year of experience under his belt now. Not to mention the huge drive to prove himself again.

I would just like to make a small point and I know it will tee some of you off, but at the end of the day, no matter how many billions of dollars these guys get paid, or that this is their only job, etc. etc., at the end of the day they are human beings, "young" ones at that. And as any one that has ever been an athlete knows, there are highs and lows, peaks and valleys. After a peak, always comes a valley. I know it was only the 2nd game against the Redskins, but both teams had spent emotion after that Washington game. Should they be able to come back strong? Yes they should. They get paid enough. However, they are human. Not giving them excuses for the way they looked, I hated it, but it was bad on all sides of the ball. I'm just saying...I felt better to see that the Redskins got slaughtered by the losing St. Louis Rams. They too, had the same problem. At least ours was to "America's team"!!!! LOL J/K I HATE the Cowgirls!

Compared to Adibi's coverage on TEs hes Champ Bailey. Addition by subtraction when Adibi gets benched on top of the best playmaker returning.
I do agree that he won't fix everything though, there have been lapses at all levels, obviously most noticeable in the secondary. Bottom line, we might have to regularly outscore our opponent, and this offense is capable of doing it all the way to the post season. If we get in the dance though they are going to have a tough time pulling out a win without huge improvement on D.

Unless something happens on our defense and in a hurry I can see every team throwing the ball with impunity and I could honestly see us going 5-11 or worse.

Also, if you want to run 3-4. get Jesse ****ing Nadding off the damn field. He is NOT a 3-4 OLB. I don't know who you would put there instead, but damn.

Yeah, he was using us to get a better offer from another team. When that team didn't come, he retired. He never wanted to play here.
Why would we not put alot on his return? Basically the same unit last year was freaking lights out. The only piece missing this year is him, and we look average at best.
