In years past, maybe somewhat less so last year, the team would show up 1/2 a game and disappear the 2nd, or, on occasion, show up for one good game, followed by another seemingly MIA. We would commonly hear remarks about practices previewing things to come. Consistency in intensity is something we have always lacked, yet has always stubbornly remained.

I know, it's only the beginning of the preseason, and I can understand individual players having their good and bad days........but an entire team? Is anyone else bothered by this point of deja vu?:

Texans notes: Leaving on a bad note

Coach Gary Kubiak wasn't happy with Tuesday's practice. There was one more session scheduled before the Texans left in the afternoon for New Orleans, where they will practice against the Saints three times before Saturday night's game at the Superdome.

"Not very good," Kubiak said . "They were pretty lazy this morning. Hopefully, they're ready to get there (New Orleans) and work, but it was not one of our better practices."

Kubiak didn't want to hear any excuses. On Monday night, the team had its annual bowling competition.

"It's never acceptable," Kubiak said about a bad practice. "We went out and had a good time as a team, but we have to come back and go to work the next morning. We didn't work very good this morning."

This is like kids.......having fun while "playing" the night before..............but waking up and mysteriously not having the energy or focus to do their school work...........................and how does chiding work???????

If they start 5-7 again, don't fall for the 4-0 *miracle* finish against
bad teams and squads resting up for the playoffs.
 
I know the problem, Gary Kubiak. You let them bowl. They're not stashed away for endless weeks like prisoners or soldiers who need a night out for some fun.

Man, this sort of thing is hilarious. Kubiak wonders why they had a bad day, yet the night before they're engaging in an annual bowling game. Hooray! I mean, let's focus on fun and bowling. Poor guys. Been workin' so hard out there.

How about this, Gary Kubiak: Make it an annual thing to play 4 quarters of football THEN find time for annual bowling games. I won't deny that you've got to do some functions. I guess it just seems information like this pops up and it's juxtaposed against the backdrop of horrendous on-field performances by the entire team.

No warrior instinct or killer instinct from this head coach. If we had Del Rio's evil intentions mixed in with Kubiak's ability to construct an offense, we'd have a Super Bowl head coach. Del Rio will rip your heart out and make you watch while he eats it. BUt he makes some dumb decisions off-the-field with his players and system. Kubiak is an off-field genius and has made some if translate to the actual games. Yet he doesn't appear to outwit other coaches as the game progresses.

If our scripted plays don't work, we're always screwed. If we can't make teams bend to us, we're screwed. THAT is what happened against New Orleans. The Saints didn't play the style of game we want to play. How dare they?!?! LOL.

For having so many stars on the defense, I really wish they wouldn't just wilt whenever there's a penalty (PI making them fold the worst), turnover, or a long 3rd down. Forever now (even before Bush) it just seems like 3rd and 13 might as well be 3rd and 1 with how many different offenses can convert low percentage plays on us when they have a chance to get off the field. God forbid the offense turn it over because it seems like they really come out and lay down when the opposition catches a break.
 
This is what low expectations and 2nd rate head coaching gets you

they aren't doing everything they can to win
leave just enough unaddressed and you have excuses
I am sick of excuses
 
One thing that I can say watching only about the 1st quarter, is that I was disappointed in the sack that Schaub took. There was a huge area of open space in front of him.................he showed what seemed to be total "unawareness" and made a poor decision.......... he never stepped up to avoid the sack............not even one step, if I recollect.
