Rams release Bulger!

It's funny how much stuff is changing two weeks before the draft. Next thing you know, Jerry Jones will position himself to take Colt McCoy in the draft.

I hate knowing who the 1st pick is gonna be!

Yeah, next thing you know they are going to announce it a few days ahead of time.

On a serious note, does anyone think that Bulger would be a good back up over here? Or if not here, where do you think he will get picked up next?

That was my question: Where does Bulger go next?

Where is Martz now? Chi-town? Maybe Bulger can go back up Cutler.

That would actually make sense, though. Bulger to come in on a one or two year deal to help implement the offense.

I think he will probably land in Chicago. They want a vet backup and Martz is their new OC.

Really wouldn't want to draft Bradford and force him to start from day one.

The Rams line isn't particularly good so that could spell disaster for him.

Why?

Couldn't they do like the Chargers did several years back when they went LT in the first and Brees in the second?

The Rams could easily go Suh/McCoy upront then Colt in Round 2.

True. With DC pulling the trigger on McNabb definitely makes it easier for a team like Buffalo to take Clausen and have another player drop. Problem is how much will other teams looking for QB help value McCoy after a pretty impressive pro day?

Rams could look at Pike at the top of the third or Snead later. Do they still have Boller on the roster? Could also look at maybe trading for Campbell now that he could be expendable. Per KFFL they have AJ Feeley FWIW.

Jeff Garcia still has expressed interest in continuing playing.

Either way I don't think it's matter, they won't find any long term options out there this late.

Might start Feeley or find another person to fill in for half the season maybe, but IMO cutting Bulger looks like a pretty clear indication they will likely go with drafting Bradford and then look to start him sooner rather than later.

Good idea? I don't know.

Starting him from Day One has disaster written all over it....so expect the Rams to do it.

I think the whole Suh in 1st and Colt in 2nd or 3rd makes sense at face value. I just don't think Colt has the frame and the arm strength to be that great in the NFL.

I think Colt's Arm Strength is acceptable, having a cannon arm helps but, it's not a requirement. What's going to save him is his accuracy on the short and intermediate routes.

What does concern me about his prospects as a starter is indeed if his frame can hold up.

I would not be surprised if the Rams don't have Sam signed before the draft..some huge money heading his way!

If Colt can't take that hit from the Alabama defense, he's going to have a rough go against NFL teams.

Colt McCoy is around 6'1'' 215 or so right? Give or take. Salt.

Frame is fine it's whether or not he finds the sack to play through pain. I guess it would help him to know there won't be a draft to fall back on. You GOTTA play now boy! You know what else helps QBs succeed in the NFL? Footspeed. It's not like a Texas QB ever made a career out of being fast or anything...

Bulger....hmmm....we got any extra 3 year 9 mil contracts laying around for backup QBs? NO?!? We already used it? ****.

Exactly. Seemed like an innocuous hit, and come to find out it pinched a nerve.

Not saying the guy is injury prone, but his frame should be a cause for concern for prospective teams.

I think that if the Cowboys are willing to take Stephen McGee in the 4th round last year, then Colt going in the 3rd or higher isn't such a stretch. I think most Aggies would admit Colt is a better prospect than McGee ever was. McGee had a shoulder problem in his senior year, Bradford had a much worse shoulder injury too... it happens.

Bradford to St. Louis #1 overall will be laughable...

They should pick one of the DT's or trade the pick..

Take either a McCoy or Tebow in the 2nd rd. or even trade that pick and add more picks, It should be a decent draft and the Rams have many holes. They could even trade for a Campbell and let him die behind that line for a year or two and invest in more of a sure thing at QB.

I'm no expert here but I look at this QB class as being similar to 1999, McNabb and Culpepper were decent but there was also Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, and Shaun King in the first two rounds... Alot of hype but mediocrity...

You know it's a bad draft for QB's when the best prospect is fragile and could be done for the season with one hit... Picture it... Bradford playing for St. Louis... In a Dome... On a hard surface... behind the worst line in the NFL... That one hit will come sooner then later...

The Rams have stated they are still unsure about going with a QB with the number one pick even though they have 3 inexperienced QBs on the roster and let go of Marc Bulger. They said they aren't changing their draft pocedure.

I have to think they will take a look at some veterans though. Like many were saying, Jason Campbell could be available. I know many don't like him but Chris Simms could also be there. Why not get a vet like that and draft a good quality QB in the second to groom under those dudes?

This post might belong in the draft section but since this was the thread that started off with the possibility of Bradford being drafted #1 due to Marc Bulger being released, I'm posting here.

Colt Mccoy went through a workout with St. Louis. That actually brings up some very interesting things. Colt in the second would be a very decent pick for St. Louis. Suh is too hard to pass up on in the first, and if they are going to get a best of the rest QB, IMO, the most winning college QB in NCAA history would be very good to go with - despite the things I've mentioned about his toughness. If they do go that way, they need to be smart and not start him. Let your #1 pick DT start and groom your future QB.

I was reminded recently about how Colt played all year before the Natl Championship but also how he played in a ton of come from behind victories to become the most winningest QB in college history.

Do you really want to start Colt right out of the gate? There's no one else there on the roster at QB to speak of. Not a lot of serviceable veterans floating around, either.

First, I don't draft Colt Mccoy in the 2nd to start him but to get one of the top 3 QBs in the draft for the future. Yes, someone said Jay Feely can play for them. That would be good. However, the more I look at St. Louis' situation, I'm reminded that Stepehn Jackson still plays for them and was able to still be productive behind that bad OL they had. This allows me to start my vet (Jay Feely) and let him hand off to Stephen Jackson for at least 8 games. Meanwhile I also got possibly the best defensive player in the draft with my #1 pick.

AJ Feeley. Not Jay.

Your plan is good as long as you don't have a kicker playing QB!

:tiphat:

Thanks for the correction. I just got back from washing the pie off my face.

Actually, you may be on to something with that whole Jay Feely at QB thing. Teams would never know if he was going to try a FG or complete a pass. Defenses wouldn't know what to do!

BTW, great Avatar. In draft days past, I used to post that pic and say that was Charlie Casserly and the leg he was holding was The Texans franchise.

Marc has to be happy regardless of wether he does start for his new team or not. The O line stinks big time.

He was released after his birthday, just before the birth of a child. I don't think he was happy to be cut.

"Happy" may not be the perfect description, but let's just say he preferred it to the alternative...

For weeks - no, make that months -quarterback Marc Bulger kept his mouth shut and went about his business. He knew in all probability that his tenure in St. Louis was over but didn't raise a stink as the Rams sorted through their options at the position.

But after Sam Bradford's boffo pro day performance March 29 at the University of Oklahoma, Bulger contacted Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo. His message? Please let me go.

A new QB via the draft would work though IMO bring them in and let them know they are part of a brand new start.
