Would anyone be interested in tracking the progress of the Redskins?

I personally think it would be an interesting to contrast and compare what Shanahan does in Washington to what Kubiak has done in Houston.

If anyone is interested, this thread can provide a place to keep it all together.

So he's got Portis, but he goes out and gets Larry Johnson and Willie Parker. Portis has experience in the zone scheme and I've read speculation that Parker has the potential to be good in it. I'm not sure how LJ figures in to that, though.

And there is also the addition of McNabb. How does Reid's WCO stack up against what the Shannys run?

FFL players have a nickname for Shanahan, and it's Satanahan. It's silly, but FFL players rely heavily on RBs to score points for them, and Shanahan has built a reputation for getting several guys on board and then it's a guessing game as to which one's going to be the guy. Once Portis left Denver, the main RB changed constantly there. I'm sure, like every coach, he'd like to have a couple guys he could rely on, and absent that, he's going to throw everything against the wall and see what sticks.

The big thing about WCO, is the verbage, the lingo. It won't take a QB much time learning the system, going from one to the next. The biggest challenge will be timing & being on the same page with the receivers.

The biggest difference in Shanahan's system & Reid's, is that Shanahan doesn't ignore the run game, and can spot good WRs, He's always had good WRs, RBs, and OLs... so everything won't be on McNabb's shoulders.

It's easy to compare and contrast how they will do, but the situations that both coaches came into are completely different.

Kubes came to a team and franchise that was as bad as could possibly be. Since he's came here, we've kept what, three players from the time before he arrived? I don't think even the Rams or Lions will have that much change in such a short period of time as they eventually rebuild their respective teams. He also was hampered with some bad contracts and even worse draft picks made by the C&C er(ror)a. Finally, it was his first time being a head coach in this league, which might not seem like a big deal to others but I have a feeling that had a huge effect on what decisions were made.

Shanahan, on the other hand, went to a team that isn't too far from being a major contender in the NFC. The Skins have one of the better defenses in the conference, if not the league, and just need a few positions of need to fill in order to have a solid football team. He's an experienced head coach who has a lot of control over what happens for his team.

Now, it's easy (well, not really) to watch Shanahan come in and make the playoffs his first year, or the Jets last year for that matter, and look at our team not make it for eight in a row and say "hey, if other teams can do it, why can't we?" but the truth of the matter is that Kubes and Co. have built this team from the ground up, while the other two were already built and just in need of some new flooring and plumbing.

1st year Mike made a move on a QB.

2nd Year Gary was allowed to make a move for A QB.


I guess if we're tracking long term progress that will be interesting to watch. Though Mike did go to a team that is much more established than the Texans.

Good point. Reid is awfully pass happy.

I know people point to McNabb's low completion ratio. But, that was just as much a function of having mediocre receivers in Philly. The one year he gets a top tier WR he puts up a 64% completion ratio and 31 Tds to only 8 Ints. He's also had an inconsistent running game behind him.

While I might be an Eagle fan too, I just have never understood why a large portion of the fans seemed to have this love-hate relationship with a guy that's brought the team so much success and if you ask me has been a class act about everything he's faced there.

Hard to see a guy I've cheered for so much get traded to a team I loathe.

I just can't bring myself to cheer for a team that has a racial slur as it's namesake. Ok maybe I'm not so sure on slur, but the name is offensive. IMO.

It would be hilarious if there was a soccer team in Africa named "the Whiteskins" or some similar translation.
