Will the Bears get a jump on Thursday nights free agency by first trading TE Greg Olsen?

Friends of the Bears TE say he was not happy about the hiring of offensive coordinator Mike Martz and quietly sent his agent Drew Rosenhaus into "trade request" mode. Now it appears the Bears may have some takers in the Arizona Cardinals or New England Patriots.

The question is can the Bears trade Olsen man for man before some players like Antrel Rolle hit the free agent market? Or is Olsen even enough for a 2nd round pick come April?

Friday in Indianapolis Head Coach Lovie Smith hinted a trade to move up wasn't out of the question, while General Manager Jerry Angelo feared the Bears didn't have enough.

So...assuming nobody is nutty enough to offer a second for Olsen...he would likely be more contract friendly than Owen Daniels and doesn't have the knee concerns.

Would a third or fourth for Olsen be worthwhile? It would free up some money to resign DeMeco and potentially Walter.

I don't think it'd happen, but would it make sense?

Olsen is a maybe but I think the Texans have enough depth at the tight end position. Hopefully Owen Daniels will be ready to go, if not then James Casey and Joel Dressen will step up to the plate so there is no need to sign Greg Olsen.

Even if Owen Daniels doesn't come back, TE is still the least of our worries.

I think the Bears will want more than a 2nd rounder pick form. The Bears are going to the worst team in the NFC North next year with a bad defense, no true #1 WR, no LT and no 1st/2nd round picks for the draft.

I respectfully disagree. What'd we have last year, 2...3 TE's go down with season ending injuries? We went on a 4 game slide when OD went out for the year?

If we go with all our TEs after OD (assuming OD doesn't return, which I believe he will) I think there will still be more pressing needs than tight end. That doesn't mean it won't be a problem, it just means that I believe that without OD I'd still be drafting DT, CB, S, RB, C, OG, before I'd draft another TE.

He should go wherever Vick lands. Vick's only target is TE then run. He made Crumpler, once Vick was gone Crumpler didn't do much

It's gonna take more than that. Olsen is a former first round pick and he is still young with a lot of potential. I think it will take at least a second rounder to get him out of there.
