Cowboys reportedly give Wade Phillips contract extension

From Roto:

According to NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora, the Cowboys have signed Wade Phillips to an extension through 2012 after all. ESPN's Adam Schefter has seconded the report.

The Cowboys announced the move on their own website Tuesday before retracting the story and issuing a denial. Owner Jerry Jones confirmed earlier in the week that he had at least picked up the 2010 option on Phillips' contract. The team is expected to announce the new deal at Thursday's press conference.

Honestly, I'm not sure if Wade is the guy to take them to a SB but this makes sense. If he had one year left on the contract I'd say let him play it out but considering what has happened 2 of the 3 years I'd say it would look pretty empty to players if they didn't throw him a bone besides the option since Jerry already promised it. The option and 2 years isn't so much that if he fails next year you can't can him and is just enough to show a little faith. I think how next year ends will be the determining factor no matter what.

From an outsider, I don't think Romo can take them to a SB. He seems to make a lot of Sage's (bad decisions) when he's needed the most.

I also think Garrett is waaay overrated as an OC. *edit* WWJD beat me to it

Just my .02

It doesn't make sense to have a guy with one year left. Either give him a short extension, or move on. Players aren't going to come to a team with a lame duck HC. We need to extend Kuniak 1 year for just this reason.

I think Jason is capable..he's too inconsistent though.

Great playcalling in both Philly games...did nothing to help Tony with the heavy pass rush in the Vikes game. Not like Tony can't escape pressure. He does it all the time. Kept Barber in the game when it was obvious he wasn't going to make a difference. Things like that make me question him.

I was trying to differentiate between their two situations. Where Kubes has a built in year and Wade an option. Plus their coaching records have shown different things. As I said I agree with adding a year or two here..I'm iffy on it with Kubes because I think he needs the pressure but can see the argument. I know the differences may be miniscule to some, I just look at it differently.

I was like you on Romo to start this year but he has grown up in maturity and leadership and while his game wasn't good against the Vikes, alot wasn't his fault. He didn't have a shot. He was spinning before he even got a chance to look. He could have made some better decisions.

Garrett was a real failure that game and has been off and on for 2 years. Not a big fan. He can't find any consistency and they have weapons/

The only added one more year. So he gets the option and one more...to 2011. Nicely done...not satisfied but a node of confidence

Owner/general manager Jerry Jones announced Thursday that Phillips' contract has been extended through the 2011 season. The team picked up the option for 2010 and added a year.

"I'm encouraged by the progress that we made this year, but in no way are we satisfied," Jones said. "This contract represents that. Two years in the NFL is an eternity, but it has to be urgent."

I'd love to see Garrett with his feet to the fire but it's not happening. Jerry's boy!
