Which Draft Pick....

Pollardized

Division Champ
Would you most like to re-do? Most likely it would be a first rounder, and there are quite a few to choose from. 2002 maybe? Alot of Pro Bowlers came after Used Carr... Maybe a second rounder somewhere?

I'm going with 2007. Amobi has been average, but not nearly worthy of the #10 pick. Patrick Willis, Michael Griffin and Darrelle Revis all came after #10. Revis for God's sake; the best shutdown CB in the NFL right now.

I would go with Tony Boselli's injured ass, and the way we were fleeced by the Jags but I won't even start on the expansion draft...

I have two

2002 - Julius Peppers instead of DC
2007 - Darelle Revis instead of Okoye.

There are MANY players the Texans passed on but I'll just focus on the first round, so for me, here is my redo:

2002 NFL Draft - Julius Peppers

2004 NFL Draft - Tommie Harris, Chris Gamble

2005 NFL Draft - Logan Mankins

2007 NFL Draft - Darrelle Revis

This is just first round players, imagine our team if we had some of the guys in the later rounds like Ray Edwards for example!

2006 Round 7 pick 251 David Anderson changed to Marques Colston.

Revis gave up nearly twice as many yards and receptions as Asomugha on a team with a crazy passrush. In what universe is he the best shutdown corner?

I'm basing on the stats I saw during the last playoff game, where they should the big name receivers this year and what he allowed in yards. I think Andre had like 35 yards, among others.

Plus Mike Greenberg said so damn it!!!

Mike Greenberg is a booger eatin' retard. :boogereater:

Asomugha 21 receptions for 246 yards 1 TD
Revis 41 receptions for 425 yards 2 TDs

Booger Eater..... LMAO

Check out these stats. They tell a different story.

http://profootballfocus.com/by_posi...e=r&runpass=&teamid=-1&numsnaps=25&numgames=1

Revis was thrown at 111 times and allowed 41 receptions - 37%.
Asomugha was thrown at 28 times and allowed 21 receptions -75%

I'll take Revis

Who wouldn't want a DB that gets thrown to only 28 times a season. That's not even twice a freaking game.

Nnamdi is still the best corner in the league hands down. And his teams defense is absolutely terrible at getting any kind of pass rush.

They tell you that Aso scares the crap out of QBs so they don't bother throwing at him. Being thrown at 111 times is flat out disrespect.

I agree Aso is good. But throwing 111 times at Revis is stupid when he only gives up 37% receptions. Hell I'd like to have them both on the Texans. Man can you imagine how much lumber Pollard could lay with 2 good cover corners like that....

Aso's stats are a bit misleading. Oppenents threw less against the Raiders than any other NFL team- 438 attempts. They ran way more against the Raiders, who gave up over 155 yards a game. So if less passes are thrown it looks like teams just didn't want to throw at you. Hell they didn't have to throw at you, they just run all over you. The Jet shut the run down so opponents had to throw the ball, and Revis shut them down to the tune of 37% completion against him. That is good.

So when they decided to throw, they threw at him at about roughly 7% of the time. Yeah I'll take it. Also, Aso holds down 'Dre regularly (since we seem to have annual meetings with Oakland) and 'Dre has even said he's the best corner in the league (this quote was taken before he played against Revis though, so I don't know if he's changed his mind).

But really it's like the Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady debate. You, me, and my retarded blind cousin would take either one to be on their team.

I've talked about this before and it is without a doubt 2002. Getting the David Carr pick wrong set off a chain reaction that screwed up our team for most of the decade. That one pick had more negative influence on what followed than any other decision.

You take Carr instead of Julius Peppers and what happens?

First and foremost you have bought into a charismatic QB who you cannot develop. That means that you can't accurately gauge most of what you put around him. Is your offensive line complete crap or not? You don't know. Are your WR's worthless (excepting of course AJ who transcends the quality of his QB to some extent)? You don't really know because he never looks at them. Are your running backs lousy? You don't know because your running game lacks any appreciable complimentary passing attack. Worst of all he looks like a franchise QB. You like him. He's on the surface a clean cut family guy who you want so badly to believe in so you go years trying to make him something he isn't.

In the meantime franchise QB's are drafted by teams all over the league. We spend years replacing parts on the offensive line, our older defense grows ancient, and Domanick Davis limited shelf life is wasted.

Then once you figure out that Carr isn't the guy you still need a QB and he costs you two more 2nd round draft picks to get and you still need the pass rush you would have had for many years with Julius Peppers.

You and Toni Romo are related?

2003 round 2, I'll take Osi Umenyiora over Bennie Joppru.

Also, since the Texans took AJ in round one it wouldn't make sense, but they also had Anquan Boldin on the board in round 2.

In round 3 of 2003, Texans took Antwan Peek. The next two picks directly following were Lance Briggs and Jason Witten.

Redrafts are fun.

Good ones Chris.

Oh hell, I found the best one yet. Better than Revis, even.

2004, round 4. Texans select Glenn Earl. Four picks later? KC selects Jared Allen.

Yes, David Carr instead of going with Peppers. Hervoyel gave a great explanation. We're just starting to recover.

This. Really I could look at all the redrafts and sometimes it's hard to say who would've shined in a different system, situation and coaching staff.

But in all I don't foresee any situation in which David Carr wouldn't been anything other then what he is today. When you think about it, it took five years for the FO to figure it out and then we had to spend 2 seconds on a QB. On the third year of the trade if finally paid off.

I'm not dissing Matt or the trade within itself, just that it took so long for us to see competent QB play.

The Texans ran a 3-4 defense in 2004. They would have never drafted Allen, a 4-3 DE, even if they liked him as a prospect.

2006 Round 7 pick 251 David Anderson changed to Marques Colston.

I'd take Miles Austin instead if you're gonna go that route.

----------------

Also I'll add this one...

2005 3rd Round: Vernand Morency RB, Oklahoma State

Marion Barber was available, and not taken until the 4th Round.

2002 -
instead of HWSNBN, we pick Dwight Freeney. Why Freeney and not Peppers?
Simple. We have him, the Colts don't.

It's hard to argue with the Peppers pick.

But if we had Peppers and a different QB, there's the possibility that Casserly would still be here! As a fan of the Kubiak/Smith combo, I'm going to throw away the first few years of our franchise and focus on the present with them running the show.

My favorites for the #10 pick in 2007 were Patrick Willis, LaRon Landry, Darrelle Revis and Amobi Okoye.

Landry was gone.

I can't fault the Okoye pick because he was the "hot" prospect that year, it was clear our staff (and others) really thought a lot of him. I liked him too, but he was a project pick. I knew that but was okay with it. Once ATL took Anderson I was 99% sure Okoye would be our pick... and supported it.

After watching Patrick Willis up close and personal, there was no doubt in my mind he would come in and be a stud for whoever drafted him. I predicted him as DROY in April of 2007 and figured he would have many pro bowls under his belt during his career. I went so far as to say we should take him and move Demeco outside... and got flamed for it. People kinda like Willis now though don't they? But I love the Demeco and Cushing duo.

Darrelle Revis was one of my favorite prospects that year. I thought he had the ability to be a #1 CB which pushed Dunta to being #2. That would have been a really great thing for our secondary. Revis/Robinson would have been sick. Revis was also a great returner which was another reason I liked him a lot, not to mention an INT by him was a high percentage shot as a Defensive TD.

I can't fault the Texans one bit with taking Amobi (trying to build a dominant DL with the Mario pick 1 year prior) but I would have to go with Darrelle Revis. A guy that was easily one of my top 5 for the team and in hindsight has really really produced big in the pros.

You know how much I man crush on Willis, both then and now. I never really liked Revis for some reason. I wanted WIllis or a trade down for Nelson from Florida.

I would take Jammal Brown instead of trading down to get Travis Johnson.

The "other" Johnson was sitting there at the time. I swore we were gonna get him.. I was coaching a game durring the draft, watching it on my phone at the same time. When we traded out I litterally went WTF ARE WE THINKING.. outloud. My 12 yr olds were a little shocked and the parents were a lil pissed. Imagine that LB corps... Cushing, Ryans, Johnson... wow... just wow.

Our past is riddled with these type of picks. Look at our first draft, Passed on Portis, Westbrook, ect... when we wanted to be a big run first team.

Our past is riddled with these type of picks.

Every team's past is riddled with these types of picks.

Hey how about William Green and DeShaun Foster ahead of Portis? Somewhere in the draft every team isn't perfect every year with hindsight.

Are there specific ones that should be criticized, absolutely but it should be done on what was known then, not what is known four years later.
