It's been a few days since we've had any drama in D.C. -- last time we saw our Redskins friends, they were losing Vinny Cerrato and pulling off the dumbest trick play in NFL history. The latest from Landover is this: Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth(notes), the team's primary off-season free-agent acquisision, was sent home from practice on Friday after arriving late for a team meeting. Haynesworth went on the field anyway, at which point he and head coach/dead man walking Jim Zorn had what Jason Reid of the Washington Post called an "animated conversation".

"I sent Albert home, just for disciplinary reasons," Zorn told the media after practice was over. "I think that all that will be kept between Albert and I. He wasn't belligerent or nasty to me, and I was not nasty to him. It was just something that needed to be done. It's just between us and our football team, and I hope it stays that way."

It didn't. Shortly after his "disciplinary incident", Haynesworth opened up to Reid and WaPo colleague Dan Steinberg, making his feelings very clear on his role in Washington's defense. Defensive coordinator Greg Blache's schemes have been a rare bright spot for most of the season (though certainly not in the 45-12 beatdown they suffered at the hands of the New York Giants on Monday night), but Haynesworth cited several concerns and said that he wouldn't "survive another season in this system if it stays the way it is."

As much as I hated him as a Titan I don't find much fault in what he's saying. The whole structure of that organization is dysfunctional and it wasn't what he signed up for. Yes cue the chorus of people who'd say just look at the Redskins history and Snyder and he shoulda seen it coming. But this is just bad beyond belief.

Beyond the staff and front office disarray its clear the scheme is not right for him. They said they'd tailor the scheme around him and they haven't. Why would you want Haynesworth reading and reacting? He had his best years in Tennessee he was told to just get up field and rush all game. He collapses the pocket when he's just bulldozing up field, not when he's grabbing/reading/reacting. If they can get the right defensive coordinator in there I think this is a top 5 defensive unit, maybe top 3.

Yeah, but considering they just (like in the last two weeks) brought in a new GM, and it's as close to a given as it can be that he's going to clean house in the coaching ranks, isn't it a pretty good time to shut your mouth, see what the new guy does, and wait until next year before shooting off your mouth - or at least keep it in-house?

Yes but the new guy is a GM and Haynesworth was ripping on the coaches, the players probably can't even tell the difference yet with the new GM compared to Ceratto running things. The players all know the staff is gonna be cleaned out and Haynesworth seems to be kicking Zorn in his butt on the way out. It lacks class yes (as if Haynesworth had any to begin with ha) but I think he's not wrong in what he's saying in terms of the scheme.

According to a report by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune and National Football Post, Redskins defensive lineman had designs on doing more than just showing up late for Redskins practice on Christmas Day.

Biggs reports that Haynesworth tried to get other members of the Redskins to arrive late to work on Friday as a protest of the early start time for practice. The team wanted to get practice over as early as possible to allow players and staff to spend time with their families on the holiday, but it seems Haynesworth disagreed with that choice.

Perhaps he was up late enjoying cookies and milk left out for St. Nick around his neighborhood?

Haynesworth was sent home by the team when he arrived an hour late on Friday. Haynesworth responded by blasting the coaching staff for using him incorrectly and said that the team needed someone to lead them in the right direction

Any of you can say what you want about the man but I would gladly trade Amobi, Cody, Robinson, and Smith for one Albert Haynesworth.

Would only get him for 13 games and at least 2 of them he would be faking injury. Bet you would also enjoy him half arsing playes half the time especially when you needed him to be at 110%. Take it from a Titans fan ... if he is not playing for money he is not that good.

Fun fact about AH: He ripped a towl rack out of the wall and hit his gf future wife with it. Story did not make much press because she zipped her lip in less then 5 hours to makes some $$.
 
Haynesworth is the poster child for exactly the type of player that McNair doesn't want in Houston.
 
Zorn is being humiliated by Snyder

How hard is Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder on his head coaches? His next hire will be the team’s sixth (or seventh, if you want to count interim Terry Robiskie) in Snyder’s 11-plus years of ownership. And of that batch, more than a few still have a bad taste in their mouths regarding Snyder. However, none endured the absolute indignity being heaped upon Zorn.

The decision to strip Zorn of his play-calling duties in the middle of the season wasn’t pleasant but, at the very least, it could be argued as a tactical necessity. Since then, Snyder has shown a staggering amount of disrespect by reportedly interviewing one of Zorn’s own assistants – secondary coach Jerry Gray – for Zorn’s job. That’s about as taboo as it gets in the NFL’s coaching ranks. Not only is it a shock that Gray would actually agree to such an interview (and he has been ambiguous and contradictory when talking about whether he actually did) but it’s disappointing that any owner would undermine his head coach so completely. Yes, Zorn is on his way out, but Snyder is essentially whacking him in the shins with a shovel as he heads to the door.

And none of this even speaks to what happened at the NFL owners’ meetings in March, when – according to a report by Fox’s Jay Glazer – Snyder called over former Denver Broncos safety John Lynch(notes) and questioned him about Mike Shanahan in front of Zorn. According to Glazer, who now works alongside Lynch as a Fox analyst, Lynch and Zorn actually made eye contact during the awkward moment. It doesn’t get more brutal than having your owner vetting your potential successor right in front of you … unless Snyder conducted the Gray interview inside Zorn’s office. Considering the sleaziness of all of this, I wouldn’t rule that out.

The bottom line: Zorn is already getting fired and taking his lumps at every turn. He doesn’t deserve to be emasculated along the way. Undoubtedly, future candidates are seeing this. Indeed, new Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren already came out and criticized how Snyder has treated Zorn. You can bet he’s not the only one watching from afar. If Shanahan is indeed the next coach of the Redskins, Snyder better pray the brain trust of the former Broncos coach and new general manager Bruce Allen get the job done. Because his treatment of Zorn could have a chilling effect on upper-tier candidates down the line.

True McNair loves him some chior boys.

No need to sign an all-pro. and general bad a&& at a position of need. He doesn't fit McNairs profile of what a player should be. Church going, mom, pop and apple pie kind of guy.

He also would have to pay Haynesworth top dollar. You're right that's not McNairs kinda player.

It doesn't take a bad attitude to be a good football player.

Case in point: Reggie White, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, etc. etc.
