We will still end up 2nd in the South. Ahead of the Jags and the Titans.

Go Texans!
I am tired of seeing dumb threads after a loss. I am 33, and last night I just decided that I'd grow up and choose to not act like a loss was the worst thing in my life to have happened.

We joke about VY being depressed and potentially suicidal last year...yet come here and look at all the END OF THE WORLD threads. We lost. Boo-hoo.

Our 5-5 is better than Dallas' 7-3 this season. We could easily win the next 5 out of 6 games. And the Titans will not. Congrats to them, they have won four straight. Let's see if they can run the table. I don't think they will, because at some point the emotional high wears off. And this emotional low, for us, will wear off.

I think we finish 2nd in the AFC South. We win the next two games, IMO.

There's a lot of parity, with a number of teams grouped from 6-4 to 4-6. I expect Denver may fade, but other teams like Pittsburgh and Baltimore will start to remember who they are.

You have to wonder if 2 straight losses like that will have an affect on the team. I felt coming into the game that the team was balanced on a precipice. Lose and they could find themselves going .500 again. Win and they could run the table. The team is still relatively young and they don't have a huge rah-rah guy like Ray Lewis to get them out of their funk. They need to stop the bleeding against the Colts or the team may be in for a long December.

Let's win 6 of the next 6, & take the division.

In order for that to happen, we have to beat Indy this Sunday, and I just don't see that happening right now. I see another 8-8 year or 9-7 at the best. This team is so close to be 9-1, but its also close to being 3-7. At the end of it all, you are what your record says.

5 > 7? sorry, I dont follow

The Cowboys' record is a joke.

The Patriots are 7-3.

See what I mean?

Toward the end of the season, teams like the Cowboys will fade fast. But yet right now they are 7-3 off of flukey wins against BAD opponents.

Our team could kick their butt in a NY minute. I'm sure of it.

That's what makes me mad about the NFL. Teams like the Cowboys are floating around with a bogus record, IMO.

I get what you're saying but there's nothing bogus about wins and losses. They have two more wins than us and that's all that counts in the NFL whether you like it or not.

Prior to the season, fans here at TexansTalk were pretty happy with our strength of schedule with the exception of our 4 game divisional stretch (which we're smack in the middle of and are 0-2 with thus far). We're losing games.

I guess perhaps I'm growing into a more level-headed football fan rather than the typical myopic "Team X" fan who has to be talked off of ledges after losses and thinks we're headed for glory after wins.

Or, I'm masking my bruised Texans ego by trying to rationalize the dire situation by generating/self-producing the above sentiment.

Either way, I thought we had a chance. Even with Kris Brown stepping up to kick the kick...I was still optimistic. I didn't throw my shoe at the TV when he missed it. I just turned off the TV and went to bed, thankful the long layoff and the hype around the game was finally over.

This team probably suffers from not having OD, nor a GOOD complimentary WR beside AJ. I like the possession-style of WRs we have in Walter and Anderson, but they don't create mismatch problems for defenses. And I really do wonder if Schaub has enough mobility to create space for himself to extend plays past the normal tick-tock-tick-tock of the pocket's collapse.

Do I want VY? Hell no. But I see how having a QB who can pull it down and scramble can lift a team over the "busted play or lockdown coverage" hurdle that seems to befall this team at crucial moments. I think OD was/is the compensation for Schaub's lack of mobility when plays break down. He used OD as a bail-out when the heat was on. Without OD, this team feels hollow.

Our center is not starter quality for where we desire to go and what we hope to achieve. He just isn't. He's sticking an arm out and getting wheeled around instead of moving his feet and getting a block on his guy. Hell, I think the times he gets a good block on someone is probably him just moving his guy into either the RT or LT and then our RT or LT is actually clogging up their own man PLUS the man belonging to Myers. The one-armed bandit is not what we need.

Then there's the atrocious play-calling and strategy that our coaches employ. Outside of the need of better players at certain positions, do we even have coaches who can out-fox the other team? I think we have better players who make better individual plays than good coaches who exploit opponent's weaknesses. Our players might be out-classing the coaches a bit.

So I have lots of questions now. Playoffs? I think it would be energy better spent upon watching closely to see how things develop and who on this team holds down their duties consistently. Because I'm of the opinion that even if we made the playoffs we'd get crushed very fast. If we can't manhandle the teams we've lost to....then gee whizz, we SHOULDN'T be in the playoffs.

Going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. I maintain that we win the next two games, playing very pissed off and very reckless.

I'm a bit emotional about this loss. I can't stand VY and how Gruden and everyone else was sucking his @#$% the entire game. It hurts to see how the team allowed this "hometown" guy to come in and own our house again. I'll be honest, I threw off my jersey and kicked it down my hallway. I'm pissed. And now that I've vented...

I wonder at the strategy of using the scripted plays too much. Who is really calling the offensive plays? If it's Shanny Jr., it seems as if there is a surprise element that is now missing that was there earlier in the season. My next question is... did we limit Slaton's carries and catches in order to help gain his confidence back? He did manage to go the entire game without coughing up the ball. I also wondered why we didn't see Moats or Foster during this game.

On defense, I wonder if it's time to start putting in more complicated formations? If Mr. 6 on the Wonderlic was able to exploit our defense, what do you think Peyton is going to do to us next week? I like that the Defense is playing aggressive, but we really need to cut out the stupid personal fouls. And I'm tired of the team not playing well enough to avoid the stupid Zebra calls. God, that horse collar on Busing was f$%^&*g rediculous. And did y'all notice how after Cushing got that personal foul on VY that the defense backed off on hitting VY when he ran the damned ball? And OMG, let frickin Dunta Robinson go. He's not worth top 5 CB money.

Man, sorry, started venting again. I'm happy to support my team. But I have to agree, that it's time to let the emotion go and allow this team to be the team. My life isn't going to suddenly change because this team plays good or bad. I just don't want to see great players like AJ leave because the team can't git it done.

Having John Busing in the game kind of helped the Titans and their run game. His run-stopping abilities are atrocious. I knew it was all over when I saw Busing go in for significant time in the second half. Flash backs to the first 3 games of our season... who was our starting safety? John Busing. Actually, I don't know for sure if he started the first three but I strongly think that he did.

I'm with you.

We need better football players all across the board. Our pass rush is silly. Vince never felt pressured and when he did feel a 'twinge' of pressure, he started running silly on us. Meyers, Winston, Brisel, and White continue to be horrendous. We need safety help in the worst way. Gosh darn it, we even need another TE right now! Don't even get me started on RB.

We have the superstars in place but we don't have the journeymen in place. That's how I see our team right now. Well... gee whiz! We may even need a new coach after rereading what I typed.

Talking playoffs is ridiculous. Even if we make it, we'll be crushed is exactly right.

who cares about Dallas? Dallas means nothing to the Texans...Dallas means something only to Texans fans with an inferiority complex.

the only thing that matters is the Titans and our division. We choked.

and who the hell cares about finishing 2nd. Not me.

Stop acting like this wasn't a horrible loss. It was. I am dealing with it though but I am not going to act like its a big deal or try and act like how Dallas is doing is going to make me feel better. Geez.

Reality check: We aren't finishing first in the South this year. The Colts have it wrapped up unless they lose the rest of their games and we win the rest of ours. As if THAT is going to happen. LOL.

Contrary to your statement/belief/opinion, this was not a horrible loss because, in the grand scheme of things, we split the series with them. And until we get wise and find a mobile QB, the kind who can do more than stand in a pocket and stumble forward a few steps before being yanked down like a 1st grader out there, then we will continue to take ass kickings from a lot of teams.

I'm down with what we have. It's (drum roll, please...) WHAT WE HAVE. We're stuck with this crap for the rest of the season. Period.

So my thread is not about how mad I am, or sad I am, or how horrible this loss was, or if we can get Bill Cowher to come here (I'm looking at YOU, btw). It's not about anything that can be done this year. This monster is made, and it's what we will trot out until the season's over.

I mentioned the Cowboys because of the people who cry about our record. Well, look at the Cowboys and the Patriots--Both are 7-3 and which one has truly earned the record? Those teams are so far apart. Yet their record is the same. If the playoffs started tomorrow, one team would advance and the other would get their ass kicked very hard.

In conclusion:

1. We will NOT win the AFC South. Nobody needs to get fired for not matching the Colts undefeated record thus far. They have lucked out, too, and it's just the way it goes. Some day, those bounces stop going their way. And some day, they start going the other direction. We just have to endure it until it happens. It isn't THIS year.

2. We should be DAMN glad to finish 2nd and not looking at 2nd as being so pitiful and poor. It's better than the cellar. It's better than two other divisional rivals. It would be great to end up 10-6 or 9-7 and be 2nd in the South for having lost OD and going through "The Great Year of Fumblemania." Throw in the blown games, lost in dumbass ways, and 2nd isn't too freaking shabby at this point.

Steve needed to get through a game without dropping the ball. Now Kris Brown has to go through a game and make all his kicks. I firmly believe that we'll win the next two games. I wouldn't be surprised if our players were largely guilty of looking past the Colts, in anticipation of the MNF game. I think our guys obsessed over it and played two straight games of anxious football.

I'm very tired and need to go to bed now. I am trying to provide a thread where people can come in and talk specifics and not just emote and pour out all the myopic, predictable posts. But I guess there's going to always be a few people who come in with a sledge-hammer and TNT just looking for a job to do. Thank you for reminding me.

I think a lot of folks need somewhere to vent. I felt it last night and early this morning. Seriously, after what I'm dealing with in life and work, why did I allow myself to get so upset over a game that I had absolutely no control over?

Once I saw what I was doing to myself, I took a mental step back. I would gladly take this football loss over the situation of both of my co-workers. Reality Check folks.

Pouring your heart and soul into something that you have no control over is a bit crazy. I'm going to continue to watch the football players play and the coaches coach. I'll hope that the guys do well, but I'm not going to let the outcome of the games affect my life.

That's what I am talking about. Thank you for seeing the point of this thread.

I had to start doing something I hadn't done since being in high school and watching the Oilers blow the Bills playoff game. Monday night, after he missed the kick, I had to remember that (A) I had hyped this game to myself. I made the choice to make this a big deal in my mind, (B) I was more afraid of losing to the Titans than I was of the concept of "losing" itself, which is comical. And, (C) Thanksgiving is here, and I have a wife and two healthy girls who love me. And THAT is what I can control. We have jobs. We pay the bills on time. Life is good.

And so the beat goes on. I am very dissatisfied with this season. And yet I expect to finish 2nd in the AFC South. It can be done. To me, that's a plus that can be built upon.

Would anybody around here be pissed off if the Titans came from 0-6 and ended up with a better record than the Texans? I know I would. They are only 1 game behind us now. Just saying.

Yeah. We were ahead of them by three games. I hope they don't finish with a better record than us, but I really wouldn't be surprised with the way this team is playing.

If people have a place to vent, it allows them to not let a loss affect their lives... that's what venting is.

Arguing about the venting only prolongs it.

If the "venters" were allowed to vent, & share their common feelings without the "non-venters" arguing about whatever they have to say... this would go a lot easier, smoother, & quicker.

Fire Kubiak... Fire Kubiak.. Fire Kubiak... Fire Kubiak...

I'd bet I could do that for three hours straight for the rest of the week, and it won't make a difference to the decision only Bob McNair can make.

But I can see how it can help some folks get to Wednesday (today) & we can start preparing ourselves for the Colts game.

When it's all over, & we're 11-5 these threads are going to look silly.
