and call me polly anna, but the game went much as I expected except the score was closer than I had thought. Due to the "rep" of Colts and Texans history, I expected a slow start and nervousness & we got it. I expected a loss but with the team coming back in 2nd half and it did. I expected a poor effort by the running backs because nothing indicated different. Yes Moats had a great game against Buffalo, but Bills are not the Colts. As the defensive backs were removed from playing, I did think "Well, we should see an aerial show from Texans." Schaub did go for 300+ but it took him a long time to get going. He should have had a 450 yard game with 3 starting DBs out.

Defense manhandled the Colts and even stopped the trick pass that could have caught them unaware. I remember thinking oh, oh, 6 points. They held the RB to 72 yards net. I guess I can shut up now about needing a huge DT to stop the run. Bush has made a believer out of me. So has Antonio Smith. I guess I was caught up in history and with the beginning of Smith's play. He and his coach got into it and maybe Smith has gotten past it as he has looked pretty good for a few games. Maybe this is a FA Rick Smith got right. I have posted that DR will be back next year but he did not help his case yesterday. I could not see much on Wilson, can anybody give me an eval?
I am more and more convinced that my board CB, Pwer back, FS, OG, C/OG, SS/FS and then LB is accurate. I hope Kubes moves Myers to RG and replaces him at center with Caldwell.

We have got to get a stronger runnng back. We are not going to get strong guards or center that can blow a Dline back unless Kubes give up on the ZBS. We knew what we were getting when they signed these guys. None were known for run blocking. If the type of player is not gonna be changed on Oline, then it has to be a more powerful RB. Too bad as I don't see one on the horizon. I like Toby Gerhart but no guarantees he will translate to NFL.

Lastly, can we not have a secret code to tell the OC to inform Schaub to rush the next play? Everyone on the D was screaming, "Get the next play off". Maybe like "Oh, Crap! Fire truck red!" Schaub yells the code fires the ball into the ground stopping the other team from having forever to decide to drop the red flag.

Summary, we can beat the Colts, Miami and New England. 12-4 is the new goal.

Not on Kubes, my point it is on OC who is calling the plays. He has to be aware that Moats has had a history of fumbling; that it could happen and we are in the red zone. I really don't see us over looking anyone from here out. If we do, shame on us.

I also wonder if, by the time the booth guys got a look at the replay, if communications may have been cut off. Doesn't it automatically cut at like 10 seconds left on the play clock or something?

I'm so tired of this. The ZBS works, and in fact is used in some form or another by every team in the league. The issue here is finding backs that follow it properly. Slaton STILL struggles with it. Did you see Gibbs screaming at him for running laterally instead of hitting the hole? He was yanked and then Moats followed up with a 6-yd gain. Slaton has more talent than anyone else on this team. But either he doesn't fit this scheme, or doesn't believe in it anymore for whatever reason. But it's the same scheme and virtually the same O-line that got him 1300 yards last season. He's suddenly trying to dance to much this year and has too much lateral movement. He's the perfect talent for the ZBS, because once you hit the hole with your one cut, you're past the line and then you just have to make the LB's and DB's miss. And he's great at making people miss. But he's not making his cut fast enough. He's indecisive and timid this year, and I don't think anyone has figured out why yet.

It's not the scheme, it's the backs.

I heard Kubes response on his show Monday on radio 610. It bottom lines as the coaches were not prepared. Gary and Winston on his program Tuesday said everyone thought Moat's fumble had been ruled out of bounds. The plan was to let the clock run down to allow less time for Wonder Boy to win. How about realizing that every back we have has a history of fumbling. If the ball comes loose at the goal line as it has before, this should have registered as a possibility with someone. Do you burn a play by spiking the ball on the goal line to eliminate a possible red flag challenge? You betcha! The original call of dead ball out of bounds stands and your second play allows a RB to score from the 2 yd or less.
