Sunday Open or Closed?

imatexan

All Pro
This is the first game we have had to question it.

Will the roof be open or closed Sunday?

It seems as if it going to be amazing out, lets hope open!

It falls under the 50-80 rule.

Current forecast is a low of 58 and a high of 77, with gusts of whining that "the sun was sunny" from people who have had season tickets in the North End Zone for 8 years but can't afford $3 for a visor.

Come over there and sit before you decide to make a statement about something you know nothing about!! 77 degrees outside with a beautiful SUNNY sky means 90-100 in the NEZ with dark blue seats and medal steps in part of section 116-117. A 3$ visor ( in your dreams) has nothing to do with the fact you can't put your hand on your seat without getting it burned, it happened!!!!! FYI: There is NO air circulation in the lower bowl. It has been proven that the temp is 15-20 degrees higher in the NEZ than it is outside!

The roof was open for all the games last year. There was one game, can't remember which, where the temp was about 75 outside, BEAUTIFUL day for tailgating. The temp in my section, according to a PSL owner who had a temp guage on his phone, was 102!!!!

Now, all that said, I am NOT spewing "gusts of whining" I am stating a fact!! I also made the choice to STAY in the NEZ for the past 8 years! The older I get, the more difficult and dangerous it is to stay for 4 full quarters in 100 degree heat, that's MY problem!! If it gets to hot on Sunday, which it will, I'll walk around until I find a seat in the SHADY area, where all you dark side fans sit and gloat!!!

I want no part of the roof being open unless it's cold out, over 75 is too warm to have it open. If it were an open air stadium I would feel different. Last year for the bears game was AWESOME.

I saw on Facebook that they are gonna have a parachute team drop in. Sounds like its open to me. Hopefully no one gets snagged on the way in and delays the game....lol

Texans stadium isn't an open air stadium. If you don't have to sit in the sun there you wouldn't understand. There is zero air flow as they won't prop open the doors so it can flow. The sun sucks...I got out of it (I get enough sun working) as soon as I could.

It better be for those guys sake, but for me it's this:

As Gma said,

Not to mention all of the hot air that Joe Texan lets loose.

Flyover is nice, but its over in 3 seconds, so its better outside when you see it, as you can enjoy them longer.....been in and out when they have done it and it is better outside...but still be in your seat anyways !

I always get to my seats (when I make the trip) by the National Anthem and the player introductions, why get there any earlier than that?

Well, I'm certainly a veteran of the heat by now, so my bitching about it ended a long time ago. I just take care of myself, and hope everyone else does the same. No more visits to the med-clinic for me!! lol I'll probably transfer two of my seats out of the Bullpen this next year. Haven't decided yet.

I hope it's a beautiful sun shinny day and everyone has a great time! I'll be in my seats EARLY, don't want to miss a THANG with this game!! Been looking forward to this one for a very long time! Just my luck I'll have to fry to see it. Such is life!:texflag:

I hear ya about the heat, I'd prefer the roof be closed unless it's cold, it's so much more comfortable for those in the sun.

No, I was agreeing with you. I knew what you meant. It's all good.

I guess its not the same in the club level but when its 75 out, even on my seats it feels amazing.

When I had seats at the bottom bowl they were on the last row so the most I would get in the sun was my legs, never really experienced the heat in those seats either.

I don't give a flying pink rat's butt about a roof. I'll be there for a football game.

Whoa, looks like my forecast was off, the whiny gusts have started already. If your seat is hot to the touch bring a beach towel. Pick one up at Big Lots or the Dollar store while you are buying the $3 visor. (I realize that visors are more than $3 at the Galleria and the Go Texans store, but I thought only people with Suites or Club seats could afford to shop there.)

The "official" temperature is always based on the temperature in the shade. So if you hold a thermometer in the sun; whether in the BullPen, the parking lot, or your back yard, the temperature will be significantly warmer than the "official" number.

I don't need to sit over there. I've always lived in Texas, I already know sitting in the hot sun sucks - but I knew that before I bought season tickets - which is why I bought on the dark side. And if there is an empty seat near us - come on over and cheer for the Texans with us (and if you don't whine, we won't gloat).

As for a visor not having anything to with the comfort level (or gusts of whining if you prefer), the posters below from the December 30, 2007 game against the Jags disagree with you.

At this time of year, section 115 gets shade right about half time. I sit in 116 and we get shade within 5 min or so of the third quarter. Before the time change, the NEZ stays pretty much in the sun throughout the entire game. Might start getting shade late in the forth quarter. With the new temp policy, unless we have a night game, the roof will probably stay closed. This was the only noon game where the roof was open, this year, so I really can't, and won't, complain. IF it had been cloudy, it probably would have been a very nice open roof day. The glare and brightness was terrible.

It was warm, but it wasn't anything to freak out about. The beating of the sun and the constant holding the hand over forehead to block the glare was the biggest issue.
The shade was nice when it rolled around.
Personally, I'm all for keeping the roof open if it's nice weather/OR rainy weather. But it has to be cold in order for that bad boy to stay open. Anything over 75 degrees is going to be brutal for us.
I still have flashbacks of the Steelers game in 05, when I completely lost feeling in my hands.

This is right. For me, the glare was a little more difficult than the heat. That being said, it was nice to have the roof open.

I think they should have it open for temps colder than 50 as well.

When I saw how sunny it was, I predicted that the returns on the Bull Pen side of the field were going to be a little quirky. Sure enough, the Jag player let the ball bounce in front of him for the first return. I can't imagine trying to catch a kickoff or punt looking into that sun.

I'm in 119 and it is never in the shade. Would have been about 3:15. Sunday's game was warm. Not undoable, but sweaty. I had forgotten and didn't wear a visor, that would have made a tremendous difference with the glare. By the end of the game after staring into the glaring sun, I not only was exhausted and a/c deprived but had a horrendous headache.

Unbearable heat??? Not that day, but unbearable glare that sneaks up on you and makes a statement at the end of 4 quarters. We sit down at 11:30 and don't leave until the very end.

That being said, I love the sun and the roof being open. Next year I won't forget my visor. Sunglasses don't help because there is too much glare.

I don't ever neg rep people so enjoy, I am not prepared to tolerate you response to SheTexan.

+1 Hardcore, nicely put. Fred, I seem to remember SheTexan having to go to the hospital after a Texan game so I would think she knows a thing or two about the heat at Reliant and how it can effect a person other than you. (Is it just me, or are the posters that are relatively new to this board throwing around most of the negativity the last couple of days?)

You have to understand, that for us, we are standing on steel risers not concrete and we are completely in the sun for the entire game.

I deal with it, I just usually drink more.

I dunno, when and where does the Texans organization officially publisize
their decision about roof policy for this weekend ?

Do you remember the name.... dare I say it.............

And WTF did everyone on here think she was my best friend? I sold her a ticket to the Saints game, SHEESH.

I appreciate the love I got (phone calls, e-mails, PM's) warning me, but pretend I have SOME street smarts :)

You will sell tickets to just about anyone this side of Charles Manson .

WWAAHHH!!! WWAAHHH! WWAHH!!! Wow! The whining is turning into a hurricane. And thanks for the neg rep and for lying about it. Someone who has to put a sarcasm warning in his signature, calling names, and neg repping people says I need to be nicer??? Thanks for the tip.

I think SheTexan is a smart feisty lady who can fend for herself. She said I know nothing because I mentioned a visor would be helpful. I guess quoting several people, including her, complaining about the brightness and glare was just too much? Or was it because I agreed with her that the temperature is hotter in the sun or that sitting in the hot sun sucks? Or because I gave helpful advice to make her gameday experience more enjoyable? Or because I invited to come over and sit with my group? Or because I gently tweak someone with a little humor (too subtle for Mr "may contain sarcasm") for calling me a "know nothing"?

OK, I did point out that whining was whining, and that it has been going on for years on this very subject. I guess that makes me a know-nothing, classless act, asshat, newcomer, know-it-all instead of a quality poster who has a high post count by pointing out that other people's post counts are lower.

BTW, the forecast has moved from partly sunny to partly cloudy so maybe things will be more comfortable. But if I had a seat in the potentially sunny area I would still bring a towel, a visor, and buy a couple of bottles of water.

Lying about what? I assure you, I just shoot from the hip, where did I do that. Because I said I never neg rep people? You were the exception so you should feel special.

Name calling, when did I do that?

My signature is meant as a joke, a disclaimer of sorts.

Post count? That don't mean anything, quality of post on the other hand does, and frankly you are not off to good a start.

Sarcasm? You didn't mean to come off that way, I'm not buying it. You were offering up advice to people that NEVER miss a game. Sorry that your advice didn't come off as genuine.

You're right about one thing, SheTexan can definetly defend herself, I wasn't attempting to, I was letting you know here in this thread I didn't take kindly to it.

LOL!!! You guys crack me up! Thanks for defending me too, but, Fred is correct, I can get pretty FIESTY at times, makes life much more fun!! I LOVE my seats in the Bullpen and will not give them up, at least not all of them. I like being where the ACTION is and the Bullpen is just my THANG! Like I said in an earlier post, if it gets to HOT I know what to do. I just love seeing everyone in their seats, yelling and screaming for our team, not out roaming the concourses because they can't take the intense heat. Just want everyone to have a good time.

I just got back from an absolutely AWESOME game in the SUN, cool breeze and amazing weather!! PLUS, a win by my grandson's team! Just wish Reliant was designed so EVERYONE could enjoy a beautiful day! I'm all for an open air stadium, (RELIANT IS NOT ONE.) I had a blast sitting in the monsoon in Kansas City, and didn't get up and leave when it rained on us last year. I'm headed to Buffalo next week and PRAY to God above it snow's!! I believe it's ridiculous to close the roof for a little rain! BUT, the intense heat can kill you, or make someone critically ill! Bottom line, everyone knows by now that the NEZ will be HOT, prepare for it!!! Nuff said!

BTW FRED: The second degree burn was on the hand of a kid who climbed up on the seat before his parents had a chance to touch it. NO ONE knew the seat was that hot! You can joke all you want, and I truly believe you are just stirring the pot, BUT, if the environment is not healthy they should fix it! JMO!! ALSO, you don't carry water into the stadium!! You have to pay pretty big bucks for it, plus, they charge you for a cup of ice. ALSO, since I am on a rant, this is an opinion board, and if some of us choose to express our OPINIONS about the roof, that's our right! It's not always a complaint, just a simple statement of fact.

You neg repped me and said you never neg rep people, so you lied. Why is that so difficult to understand that that is a flat out lie? I thought you understood the difference between never and seldom. Sorry if I gave you too much credit. I got the lame humor attempt on enjoy the neg rep (hey I said thanks!) but thinking that throwing in a lie makes things funny proves who has the humor impairment.

"You've a real class act" with rolleyes would be name calling. Very, very, mild, name calling; but name calling nonetheless.

I agree with you that the quality of posts is important (lying tends to make for poor quality) but the folks giving you positive rep for lying seem to disagree with us.

My larger point would be that people who never miss a game should know what it is like when the roof is open, they should be prepared for it, and they shouldn't be coming on here acting surprised that "the sun was sunny". Which will be a break from the past if that occurs.

Enjoy the game! I will!
