Texans sign LB Jamie Winborn

Torain was a beast at ASU and looked good when Denver plugged him in when all the other backs went down.

Oops, wrong thread...

I don't know anything about Winborn. Anyone?

From what I have been able to come up with, he is basically a strong side LB, but he is supposedly capable of playing all three LB positions............and you know Kubiak and VERSATILITY............

I don't get it....with all the other needs why are we signing a Linebacker?:um:

on the active roster, the texans are not even 2 deep (5 guys). In the shortest of terms, LB is a need although the guys we have are playing well.

Winborn, in his ninth year in the NFL, most recently played for Denver in 2007 and 2008.

ugh....some things never change.

Will somebody please inform the front office that their are more teams in the NFL than just Denver.

You're right, some things never change, and perhaps one of the things that should is the criticism of the FO for signing so many former Bronco players.

Since the start of the season, we've signed 7 players to the PS, and 5 players to the active roster. This includes previous Texan players like Buster Davis and Clark Harris, as well as totally new guys like Bernard Pollard and Jamie Winborn.

Winborn is the first of those with so much as a single year with the Broncos, and he has been with 3 other teams in addition to the Broncos and now Texans.

Please don't bring facts into this discussion...

I support this signing. We cant go the whole season with only 6 LBers. Especially when the coaching staff has been sitting our newest stud Cushing for a day or two so he doesn't get worn out. We need to spread the reps around in the LB core to make sure the strongest part of the defense doesn't get worn out.

Plus we get a veteran with starter experience. Not a bad backup to have imo.

Houston has on of the best LB corps in the league and cheap depth never hurts I support this signing.

yyikes this just scares the bejesus outta me for real.........

strongside linebacker signed........our rook who happens to play strongside, out again this week with his sore foot.........nevermind:gun::choke:

not gonna do it...back to our regularly scheduled program:brando:

I think Thompson and Campbell being placed on IR for the season would be the more logical explanation.

Yep. Teams generally carry 6 LB. We've been able to get away wit h5 the past couple of weeks because we've been playing pass happy teams, but with Frank Gore and the 9'ers coming in we needed to get back to the traditional 6LB.

Backup LB's are usually good to have on special teams, which to me, is likely the main reason for picking him up. Other than depth, that is.

Most logical explanation is that Cushing, Ryans and Diles are all battling injuries.

Hou-tex, when I posted, I was taking for granted the known loss of Thompson and Campbell........leaving us on shaky grounds if anyone else goes down. But you point should have been pointed out.

This is just great. We look for Winborn to bolster our injured LB corps.............and he ends up "Limited participation" on Wednesday, "Did not participate" on Thursday, and "Did not participate" today........he has now been classified "questionable" for Sunday..........because of a calf injury. He joins Mario in the "questionable" category. But at least Mario reportedly exercised "limited participation" on each day.:foottap:

The injury bug continues to haunt this team and that sucks.

I wouldn't be quite so dramatic. It sucks that Winborn isn't healthy and that Mario/Cushing aren't practicing fully every day but the 2 that we need to play will be playing on Sunday.

I think by this time in the season everyone is battling some type of injury bug. That is why depth is so important. Obviously we have had our fair share of losses, especially on the O line, but hopefully that will be the worst we will see. With Cushing's injury history, I am just happy he is still playing. I wont complain about being "questionable" as long as he keeps putting on performances like he did last week. Hopefully Mario still get back into gear here in a week or two, but I figure we will probably not see a healthy Mario until after our BYE
