I think Aso is the Andre Johnson version of a cornerback. He's on an under-the-radar NFL team, so he doesn't get the great publicity that you get on the Patriots or Giants or Steelers. But he just has that feel for the game that you know, game by game, you're getting a well-rounded CB who can hold down that spot.
Here's the Catch 22: Cornerbacks are a bit hard to judge because they can get more credit than they deserve, and more blame than they deserve as well.
Another way to describe what Aso brings to the table: Aso is to the CB position what Roy Williams was to the safety position back in the Cowboys glory days with Jimmy Johnson. You didn't worry about what happened once the play got past the Cowboys linebackers, because you knew Roy was lurking back there, waiting to blow the play up.
For what we need, maybe a DT is the only other position of need that we cold upgrade significantly and boost this defense even more.
I am still cautious about our run defense. Shutting down the Raiders running backs and Cedric Benson is not exactly an indication of having a stout run defense. Not to me, at least.
Facing a team like the Vikings, who have Peterson back there, and shutting them down would make me a 100% believer. Because if we shut them down and hold Favre to a less-than-stellar game, then we know we have a defense worth holding in high regard.
Like I said, though: We won't make any deadline deals. It's not his style.
