Two years ago, San Francisco had a worse defense than us. We were 24 and they were 25 in total defense and in points per game, they were 20 and we were 22. This year while we are almost dead last in both categories, San Fran is 7 in total yards and 4 in points per game. Don't tell me a tough coach can't make a ton of difference. San Fran does not have much more talent than us on defense yet their guys play with fire. What I would give right now to have hired Singletary instead of Kubiak...

Youth is not a excuse, espcially when one of the young guys (Cushing) has been one of your best defensive players...

His decision to hire within a defensive coaching staff that SUCKED year after year was a BIG reason for today's loss.

That's one of the issues with this team and the HC. Too many games we are saying we COULD have won it. They have to start winning them not just coulda won them. That was ok in the 1st and even 2nd seasons, but it's old. I'm not saying anything about their softness or lack of it. I just get tired of the "hey if this play happened or that play happened we could've won" mentality that I think some of the players have as well. That goes for every team (almost) in the NFL.

Well, you can't hear boos when it's a away game, but I find it hard to believe that Texan fans wouldn't be booing if they saw Chris Johnson rip their team a new one and run uncovered into the endzone early in that game.

I'm not saying they should have swept them, but you should win on your own turf. You have to win division games at home. Jacksonville's offense didn't look good against Indy or Arizona (neither of which will be mistaken for the '86 Bears by the way). Our defense was awful against them.

This is the NFL, not "pop rah rah" football where everybody gets a damn trophy. People cheer when they're given things to cheer about and complain when their team is playing like hammered dog crap and lead the league in some horrible categories.

Soft? I don't think we are particularly soft - poorly coached? sometimes- poor draft/fa? I think so. Still not enough skilled players on defense - we need a good tackle, (actually, we need everyone to learn how to tackle), we certainly need a good secondary. I don't know how other coaches/GMs manage to get good players in a matter of a year or two - but Rick and Kubes need to check into that cuz what we are getting isn't working.

This great desire to have refined, intelligent defensive players may look great -but it is time for Plan B. We need some kind of 300 lb defender who lives for only two things - eat and hit people.

Much like Houston's games huh...you know, being embarrassed with god awful defensive play...and making mediocre offenses look all world while surrendering about a gazillion rushing yards on the ground and giving up about 30 points a game. Yeah, it makes me cover my eyes too.

I know, I even get tired of repeating myself as well....I'd love nothing more than to have something positive to talk about, but as long as our defense sucks as bad as it does and as long as we look soft as hell. Positive topics are going to be few and far between.

Here's a few positives from the game though....Kevin Walter looks like he picked up where he left off last season? Owen Daniels looks like he's going to set a new career high in TD receptions, Schaub looks like he's going to have a probowl year (don't know if he'll get voted in on this team though) buuuuuttt.........that's about it. Oh and Steve Slaton looked better.....now that's about all the positives.

If you would've told me at the end of last season that our defense could actually get worse, I would've laughed in your face. Seriously did anybody ever think this defense could actaully get WORSE?

Weird. Last year Denver was 29th in total Defense, 27th in Rush Defense, and 26th in Pass Defense, and 30th in Points per game.

They hired the guy that couldn't get it done in San Fran (Mike Nolan), and lo and behold so far they are 1st in total Defense, 2nd in Pass Defense, 8th in Rush Defense, and 1st in points.

How do you explain that?
