ESPN Power Rankings: Week 3

17. Texans 1-1-0 Everyone is wary of saying too much about the great victory in Tennessee, because historically the Texans have had some duds for follow-ups. (Kuharsky)

Ok, not much to be argued with the Texans analysis, but this power ranking is just complete garbage to me. Along with some stupid comments next to teams (see the Bengals, who we are shocking told "This team would be 2-0 if it hadn't blown the final minute of its season opener.") I just don't see how their rankings are panning out. I don't agree with the Ravens being top, after beating the Chargers, and a poor Chiefs team. I don't agree with the 2-0 Jets (who have shut down both the 3rd ranked 2008 offense and the Patriots) being ranked behind the 1-1 Steelers, and even the 2-0 Vikings, who have only managed to beat the Lions and Browns.

Alongside, just because we beat them, and therefore have a 1-1 record, whilst the Titans are 0-2, surely logic would place the Texans above them at this stage of the season?

I hate power rankings (especially the ESPN writers), even though it is only week 2.

We're only ranked behind the Titans by the 4th guy, who has us 20th. The other 3 had us out front 15, 16, 15, and the titans 16, 17, 16, 16.

The Jets should be #1 though. The Ravens haven't done anything to impress me.

whilst I enjoy reading the power rankings I don't treat them to seriously. Though if you read a number of them and we're placed around 15th - you tend to think at this stage of this season thats about right.

yeah, I can't stand these rankings either.

The Jets are playing well, but I would be more scared to play another team from NY. Ravens #1? No way.

Most of those I've seen have us around 18th and still have the Titans slightly ahead of us. I really can't argue with that until we at least go over .500, or stay at .500 and stop giving up ridiculous TDs.

We could be 2-0 right now and still wouldn't be in their top ten. The turd I pinched this morning means more to me than anything an espn parrot has to say. Go ahead and throw SI in there too.

it's just one dude's opinion of how the league shapes up top to bottom...not enough to 'hate on' if you axe me. Hell we do it all the time here. Not so much in a ranking form but we are always talking about how we are better than the Jets before the game or something akin to that.

I can't decide what I can't care less about: discussing which QB is better or what some person's power ranking is.

It's just some guy's opinion. It has no power whatsoever. If we were all really dumb and had no clue what was going on and this guy knew much more than any of us and we could actually use his power ranking to glean information about the NFL that allowed us to do something like win bets or something, then great. But there are a lot of people on this board that can pick games as good if not better than any expert you care to name.

After two weeks the Texans are 13th in the league for Offensive scoring, and 27th in the league for the defense being scored against.

No change in defense from last year, a nice improvement in offense from last year. This is of course only two games worth of stats, so make of it what you will.

my, my... what a grumpy post
:)
you know you'd probably be in a better mood if you got rid of that Jets avatar

Exactly right. The Jets should be #1.

And how is it that the Texans beat the Titans, and the Titans end up ranked exactly one spot in front on the Texans? Nonsense.

For some reason, the 'experts' are still not sure the Titans suck. I'm still trying to understand how the hell the 2-0 Jets are only laying 2.5 pts against the 0-2 Titans at home this weekend.

Guess this weekend will tell the tale...

Great observation on the points.

If the Jets beat the Titans by two touchdowns, that will not be surprising at all. But if the Titans win at all, that will be very impressive indeed.
