Heisman winner Bradford sprains throwing shoulder

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Sam Bradford sprained his throwing shoulder when he was driven to the turf by a BYU defender, leaving Oklahoma without its Heisman Trophy winner for the start of the second half of the opener against No. 20 BYU on Saturday night.

Bradford was on the sideline with his right arm in sling and ice taped to his shoulder as backup quarterback Landry Jones led the Sooners on their first offensive series of the second half.

Playing behind a line featuring four new starters, Bradford went down hard on a clean hit by Brigham Young linebacker Coleby Clawson in the closing seconds of the first half. Both players landed flush on Bradford’s right side and he immediately began writhing in pain.

OU loses by 1 point

not that it matters, it is early in the season
esp if a team is to take a loss

Bradford could have been drafted #1. He better hope he stays healthy and beats UT or his season is a waste.

ESPN was suggesting that this type of an injury heals in 204 weeks. If that is true for Bradford, then he will be back in time to play against Texas. This injury not end up being a big deal for him.

He's going to play against Texas in 2013?

Really unfortunate for Bradford. Hope he recovers fully and quickly. It may be a blessing for OK in the long term. Bradford will be gone after this season, and their backup wasn't going to get any experience without an injury to Bradford.

Next 4 games for OK are Idaho State, Tulsa, Miami, and Baylor. They should win all those games even without Bradford, unless Miami has taken a huge jump this year which I doubt.

Got to love people cheering for an injury of course if he was Colt and people were saying this it would hate and not cool.
I am no OU fan, but I agree with you on people talking smack about his injury. I guess my biggest thing is when a team losses its star QB to an injury you are almost going to be giving a few wins away.

Gotta agree here. I hate Oklahoma with a passion but I will never cheer for any injury to any player. I had a pretty serious leg injury back in my playing days and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, especially Sam Bradford, who is a hell of a football player and a class act on and off the field.

He and Adrian Peterson are on the short list of OU players that I have total respect for.

Worse news for Bradford. It is now looking like a Grade 2 or Grade 3 Shoulder Sprain. This is worse news for him and likely will miss more than the 1-2 weeks they initially thought. Some websites I have seen suggests possibly more than 1 month.

Of course as CND as explained to us, getting back up to game speed is not the same as getting healed, so it might take an additional week or two beyond when he returns that we see the Bradford of old.

So, CND, what are your thoughts on the matter?

Now that he isn't on the field for the Sooners, I can wish Sam Bradford well. As for anyone else who takes the field for the Sooners, they can all DIAF.

OU will be playing out of a hole this season, but the golden rule is if you are going to lose, lose early.

But one thing I do want to say is that if OU was more concerned about getting the backup QB some playing time last year, instead of leaving Bradford in and trying to score 60+ points every game and secure Bradfords Heisman, they might have perservered in the BYU game without Bradford.

Good points.

It might be a blessing in disguise that Bradford will be out for the next few games. Landry Jones can get some actual game reps and maybe he can make an impact for them next year when he is the starter.

As far as this year goes, I think OU is done in the national title hunt. In my opinion, if they can only go up by three on BYU with Bradford then they aren't gonna beat Texas with or without him. They may not beat Oklahoma St either.
