Who was the most pleasant surprise tonight?

CloakNNNdagger

Hall of Fame
Okam showed us the player he should be.

Orlovsky showed a great deal of poise in the pocket.

Chris Brown showed us the road grader we need.

Chris Brown and Okam without a doubt. Those two guys showed up to play tonight.

I expected it, but I was also very pleased with Barwin and Casey. Those two guys look like they are legit.

Okam
Casey
Busing
Barwin
Chris Brown

Those are mine. Chris Brown especially, ol' boy might be OK if he can stay on the field.

I liked Okam, Pittman, Busing & Brown tonight. Busing played really well on special teams. Pittman looked like the best CB with the 2nd-3rd teamers to me. I didn't like Richardson. It looked like KC was picking on him way too much.

Aside from all the guys mentioned above Brice McCain had a good game. I don't recall him allowing a catch.

Yes bushing I dont know who he is but like some off u i bet the

Bushing & cushing dream team was swirling around yall head LOL :)

Casey

Chris Brown

Ditto on the list, though I'd put Barwin higher.

I remember one weekend a couple of years ago when Chris Brown was the NFL rushing leader. Then he got injured. The rest is history.

I would put Barwin 1st personally and would add the fact that Jacoby didn't screw up and actually had some good catches. Have to agree with the rest.

That would probably be the reason I didn't notice him too much. :texflag:

Barwin didn't surprise me at all. He went mostly against #2's tonight, and I expect him to be one of the Texans leading sack leaders this year. Casey didn't surprise me either, since I knew he had great hands.

A guy not yet listed that I thought played well is Kasey Studdard. Played into the 3rd quarter and hustled on the Brown fumble. Looks to be an improved player.

A guy I'd just as soon cut now is Brandon Harrison. He looks lost on the field. Start searching the free agent lists for safeties, Rick Smith.

I think only one of you mentioned him, but I also have to add McCain to my list. He played very very well. He stayed with his man, put on a big hit with Demeco to cause an incompletion, and looked very confident. Very impressed with him.

Agree on both points. Harrison looked awful.

Harrison's replacement is Busing and or Nolan. I doubt we find another gem like we did last year with Eugene but who knows. I actually feel decent about the safety position because I like the top three guys.

I wouldn't be surprised if some quarterbacks were brought in for a tryout. Kubiak seemed PO'd at Grossman, he could be on the outs.

Barwin got his sack vs Branden Alberts. The Chiefs starting LT.

Pulled hamstring as reported by Bob Allen.

EDIT: For content

The entire DL stuffed the Chiefs up and down the field. The LB's caused fumbles, all in all the defense was very pleasant.

The offense was pretty good. The running game was good, the 2nd string passing game (Because face it, 2 series of the 1st stringers is not enough data) was meh. Dan was good/bad Rex had 3 snaps before being pulled. Overall, I think our depth is better than in years past. That or our 2's can style all over what appears to be an uncoordinated team.

Rex? Pulled hammy?

Hope it doesn't interfere with his trip home for the season.

BTW, Jeff George is available on the cheap if we need a head case big armed QB.

another guy not mentioned who I thought played really well was Bentley. I know he is not a rookie or even trying to make the team but he was flying all over the field and making play after play.

yeah but who do you want us to pick up? Brink back on the PS? he's the only guy out there that knows our system and isn't inked but apparently Shanny Jr and Kubes weren't impressed seeing as they cut him before camp. Boyd signed with a UFL team and the only other guy i can remember who has been on in TC while Kubiak has been here and who doesn't have a contract is Bradlee Van Pelt... need i say more. Kubes will keep Grossman. i doubt he's sold on Orlovsky just yet and he'll want a vet behind him just in case.

we need to get the equipment manager out of preseason form

This is true and I didn't realize the hamstring thing but regardless he didn't look good with the fumbled snap and throwing into double coverage. It would be a bit surprising if he was cut and a new guy was brought in but if you're gonna go in another direction for that 3rd QB spot its better to do it sooner rather than later. Rex didn't help himself.

While he left pretty early, Dejuan Robinson looked real good.

Sorry, but I'm going to put in an unpleasent surprise ~ Okoye was a non factor.

Yeah, I was thinking playing on the Texans 2nd team. I totally forgot that the Chiefs had their first team in their longer then the Texans did.

He didn't play many snaps at all. I think the injury was bothering him or atleast I hope. Cody and Okam and possibly even Zgonina were better tonight.

Does anyone know who DE # 70 is? I cant find that number on the roster but the announcers wrongly gave Jesse Nading credit for putting pressure on Thigpen when this guy did it. He was getting good pressure late in the game with the 3rd and 4th stringers but I could never find his last name. He was a black guy if that helps and i'm just confused and have the wrong number...

Joker,

You might get to have sex by January of 2010. Congratulations!

Isn't that Tim Jamison or his last names Johnson . He was getting after the QB .

Dale,

I hope so!!!

Earl,

Thanks. I hope that guy gets some playing time with the 2s next week. I think he could develop into a nice rotational DE. His motor reminded me of Tim Bulman a little bit...

If he doesn't make the active roster I hope he gets on the practice squad. It was making me mad that whenever he applied pressure someone else got the credit.

Aside from the others mentioned and Jamison I thought Antoine Caldwell did pretty good while he was in. The offense didn't do too much while he was on the field from my recollection but he made his blocks and stood his ground in the pocket. I'd like to see him get some time with the 1s before Chris Myers returns from injury to get a feel for where he's at so far in his development.

Yep ... Thigpen's best play was to escape the rush and run for ten . I think they have more depth than ever on the front seven which is pretty cool .

Okam, and Moats were the only ones who played better than I expected.

Del-Rob, Bentley, Barwin, etc. are all guys I expected to play well, and they did.

I wonder when Kubiak is going to comment on the game to the press. I'd love to hear his real thoughts and not more "the kid is gonna battle through it."

No offense meant, but does he ever really say anything other than 'the kid is gonna battle through it' ?

Methinks the first real serious clue as to what is going on in Kube's head will show up with the first round of cuts.

I found him under photos , day 12 slide 2 .

No Offense taken....I just wish we would hear the unedited version...just once

Myself.

It would be great to see him staring at the podium, tapping on it, and say:

"This kid sucks.... Really just has no business being on a football field but we have no one else on the waiver wire to replace him. So we'll let him battle on through but man, does he suck."

I second that. Kasey Studdard did something that to me showed this season will be different for us. Used to be that we would lose that fumble but Kasey knows this team can't afford turnovers and that was some hustle.

Yes Brandon Harrison is not good. He's always lost on plays. I don't know how many 3rd and longs he allowed KC to convert.

Might I also add that Kevin Bentley was a very nice surprise. Here is my list:

Chris Brown
Frank Okam
Connor Barwin
Kevin Bentley

Ryan Moats gets an honorable mention. He was playing possesed.

Those upset with Okoye already need to rethink things. Mario Williams also did NOTHING tonight, and I certainly don't think that will be the case during the season. As expected, we played pretty vanilla defense and the 1st string did not play much at all. Yet that being said, we still looked dang good out there. I wouldn't worry too much. The point of preseason is to see what kind of depth you have as a team. We should be thrilled because this is without a doubt the deepest team we have had in our history.

If you want a head case, weak armed QB, Vince might be available in 3 weeks.

Vince does not have a weak arm. He has a strong arm that is extremely inaccurate. He is a lot like Vick in this regard. Both of them can throw the ball, but they cannot pass the ball.

I didn't like Richardson. It looked like KC was picking on him way too much.

to be fair, that had more to do with bowe than richardson. he was matched up against a very good wideout (who just happens to be playing because hes in the doghouse)

Not really. I'm watching the game right now on DVR and I saw Mario get some pretty good assists.

There's a Tim Jamison/DE/Michigan listed as #92.

But since Zgonina is back, maybe he reclaimed #92 and Jamison, a rookie, had to switch numbers.
That's my guess...

This is a kid that 76Texan and I have had high hopes for. I was really happy when we picked him up as an UDFA.
