What will the 2009 Texans Win Loss Record Be?

I'm right there with ya brother.

I voted 120-4.

I figure we'll outscore everyone so badly in the first quarter that they'll agree to call the game a loss and ask for a do-over. Same thing happens again in the next first quarter. I figure we can amass anywhere from 5-10 wins per week doing this. Some teams will want more do-overs out of pride but, ultimately, the results will be the same.

Oh, and the four losses, those come in week 14 when we have homefield sewn up for the playoffs and the team lets the fans field a team. The fans lose the games, of course, but when your final record is 120-4, who cares?

9 - 7 for me. Still make the playoffs though.
Concerns still about the defence especially the secondary.

Take your point, but I'm thinking because it is so competitive and that the teams have relative parity that a 9-7 record will get in.

I'm glad I made every one's day with my mistake.

I cracked myself up over it. Not at your expense, just in general.

I'd really say 9-7 - 11-5. Split the difference and call it 10-6.

That secondary still makes me nervous, though.

Yeah, the defensive secondary will cost us some games this year, count on it. But even with our obvious weakness there, we can still do 9-7 or 10-6.

I went with 11-5, but I think we could be anywhere from 9-7 to 12-4 depending on the luck of a bounce here and there, and of course the ever present "injury bug." I still don't see us any worse than 9-7 though. JMHO! :texflag:

I went with 11-5 because we were damned close to it last season. A couple of bad plays cost us at least 2 games. We're also still playing a 3rd place schedule and I like the way it shapes up for us. How we do NEXT season, playing a a 1st place, division winning schedule will be a truer test of where we are as a team. :)

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about "1st place schedule" vs "3rd place schedule" How are the schedules different between us and Tennessee this year?

Whereas we play the 3rd place Bengals and Raiders, Tennessee plays division champions Pittsburgh and San Diego. Which two opponents would you rather face?

You play teams based on where you finished in your division. That's why we play Cincinnatti and Oakland so often. We play Oakland(3rd place) Tacks play Chargers(1st place) We play Cincinatti(3rd place) Tacks play Pttsburgh(1st place). All teams in the AFC South are playing the NFC West this season. We then play the 3rd place teams from the AFC and the Tacks play the 1st place teams.

Can I be on one of the fan teams?! I am 5'10 165. I figure i could play LT on one of the fan teams, right?!

I'm the 8-8 guy. We need one more offseason of player additions to the Defense to get over the hump. Also one more year of decline on peyton manning and kerry collins wouldn't hurt

Alot of how well the Texans is going to depend on how big of an improvement the D shows this season. If the DL apply any QB pressure then life for the second dary should be better but they'll still have a tough task. I think they'll go 11-5. They better hope Foster comes in and takes the load off of Steve that'd be huge. The injury bug must stay away from them. When DRob comes back he should give a small boost to the second dary along with Reevs who just has to remember to turn his head around and look for the football and he should be fine out there. Hopefully that is not too big of a task for him to handle. The O should play at the same level as last season or even better they must score more TD's once they get inside the 20 yard line because seven points will get the job done but three points won't so I'd like to see less FG's and more TD's this season. I know Kris Brown would rather be kicking alot of extra points this season unless of course he has a chance to nail one with the game on the line. GO TEXANS LETS GET OUR FIRST PLAYOFF BIRTH IN 2009

I'll go 7-9. The secondary is a nightmare, and when Slaton goes down the offense will struggle.

Right when we are getting a lot of power and ability in the front seven, the secondary dips. If the secondary can't do their job, it could limit what the front seven can do.

I'm sorry if I remain a little too much on the optimistic side of things I'm just ready to win football games and for something positive to happen.

Why apologize for that? All in all, the feeling we now have a football team (when it's more than possible we could still be without one) is still kind of nice. Even though the Texans have yet to live up to their potential, I'd still rather have them in town than Bud Adams' organization. The Titans may win more games right now, but that will change. :texflag:

The second dary is the biggest question mark on this team right now but they'll get better.

Even playing at the same level we played at last year, we should STILL be at least a 9-7 team. We were literally 2 plays away from that record and maybe 4 from being 10-6. If we improve JUST in redzone efficiency, we're a playoff team. That's without adding a thing on defense. Add Cushing, Smith, Barwin and a new DC, how can we NOT improve by a game or two? I don't see that as overly optimistic, just going by how we played last year. Things don't look too bad in Texans Land right now. Just think how much better our record will be if the DL does it's job. A DL getting pressure on the QB can only make a secondary look better, not worse. A DL getting more penetration along the LOS usually means better run defense, also. Our two biggest weakness last year were turnovers and redzone efficiency on both sides of the ball. Get even marginally better in those two areas and BOOM we're a playoff team.

How much further can Collins decline? If he declines anymore he will be Bledsoe of two years ago.

We had some close games last year

a coin flip away from sweeping the jags

prob if sage would have slid down instead of doing a rosencopter from spliting with indy

thats 10-6 right there we where "1" play away from being a 10-6 team

Rep for you.

I despise prediction threads, simply due to the fact that you can't predict injuries, and injuries affect W-L records.

But I got such a kick out of gary's mistake, I thought, Oh what the hell.

Put me down for 120-4.

I know that on paper out secondary doesn't look that strong due to inexperience, but remember last year our running game didn't look to be very good and some rookie (can't seem to remember his name LOL) stepped up and had a pretty good year. Bennett has been having a real good camp and GQ & Mc Bride have both been coming along well and now there is a solid vet to help them along. Might not be in as dire of straights as is seems.

You must have been reading my mind because I was thinking of posting the samething.

I wasn't able to get to any TC practices, but ANYTHING is better than the "scheme" they had last year. I'm not worrying too much about the secondary because I just don't know how good or bad they can be with a decent DL. We might find we have some diamonds in the rough that just needed to NOT be left on an island for the eternity it took our DL to get to the QB. There's a good reason that everybody that follows football uses the old adage "games are won and lost in trenches". Because they are. If you control the LOS, you stand a damned good chance of winning the game.

Bold prediction.

19-0. They will be undefeated with a Superbowl victory and the last pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. They will dethrone the 1972 Miami Dolphins as the most winning and only undefeated team in NFL history.

The 2009 Houston Texans will be spoken of in song, legend and lore throughout the ages.

You guys call yourselves Texans fans. What a bunch of pikers.

:)

I honestly think we can go 11-5 when looking at our schedule and of course assuming that we are healthy and don't have any "Rosencopter" games or crap our pants in the clutch. I would love to see 120 wins though!!

Ok, quick question to all of you 10-6ers.

Did you predict 10-6 last year?

And the year before that? and the year before that?

Just wondering out loud. ;)

Stupid mistakes is all that kept us away from that record last year cough cough Sage.

Not a 10-6er, but I predicted 8-8 two years ago and 9-7 last year. I was pretty let down we only got 8-8.

But I'm going wild with 9-7 again this year.

If they get the necessary breaks and play up to their potential I do think they can finish 12-4.

11-5 would be real nice but as we all know that might not get you into the postseason. I just say try to win the division at all costs and avoid other possibilities.
