Ughhh....my heart just skipped a beat. Hopefully it will turn out to be minor injury and he'll be OK. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I do understand it's a part of camp, but I'd love to come out of this scratch free.

injuries to starters are always bad but at least we have a capable replacement for him in caldwell if it is significant

I just heard this on the radio. Maybe this will be Caldwell's time to shine if Myers is out for a significant amount of time. I hope its not serious though.

Well if it is going to happen, it needed to happen now. Isn't Chris White next on the depth chart?

Uh oh. Maybe Caldwell will be getting first team reps a little faster than we all thought.

exactly what I was thinking, I dont wish in jury on nobody, not even on other teams (except hanesworth cause of the comments he was making about Shaub being scared etc, but he got his late last season against us and is still paying for it this year bad knee) Chris got a lot of heart and his teamates like him so hopefully he will be fine, I just dont want no more injuries to our back end cause that will just give more leverage to Dunta, I guess they will be more inclined to promise a non franchise next year

Lets hope this doesn't lead to him missing any significant time.

This is always something I worry about when you hear players have put on significant more weight to stand up to defenders better. I just read yesterday that he had gained 15 lbs to hold up agains tthe bigger NTs in the league. Sometimes the body can't handle that extra 15 pounds as well as it could the original weight.

I think Caldwell will be a nice player for us, but this line held up together for a full season last year and the players really played well as a unit. Center is an important position. Heres to a fast recovery

I've been a critic of Myers for a while now, but this is not the route I wanted to take in order to replace him. Caldwell isn't ready, it'd be White next on the depth chart, I reckon.

BUT, let's hope Myers will be okay and be ready.

stuff like this is why you can't slack around and pout because you aren't a starter. You never know when your window opens.

Must have been a pretty bad practice.
Richard Justice just tweeted this: Gary Kubiak was as mad as I've seen him after practice. Didn't like how things went. As for me, I was very pleased for the easy column

Are they talking about yesturday or was there a closed practice this morning? All I have to say is an injury already oyoy this is not a good way to start.

I thought we'd see Myers' dad posting on here more.

He seemed to be active on the Broncos board.

his son didn't have a good early year...why read and respond to all the negative stuff if you are related? It doesnt help any.

I'll echo the thoughts on being a critic of Myers last year, but I don't think Caldwell is ready just yet. They did play well as a unit last year and I'm suprised to hear Myers put on the extra weight. Shoes me he wants the starting spot bad, I like that.

Don't want to get into an extended discussion on Dunta in a Chris Myers thread but, once again Dunta has NO leverage whatsoever. He either signs the one year Tag tender or continues to sit out, lost money, and lose a chance for other teams and this team to see he's worth the bloated contract he's demanding. Personally, I think he wants out of Houston.

Get well quick Chris!

As a couple of people have pointed out, we shouldn't count out White. White has been with the team from a couple of years now and, as I recall, got some pretty good reps in the 2007 season. Before we brought Myers in, there was a lot of talk about him as a possibility to upgrade the center position.

Either way, this is a chance for someone to step up.

yeah im not trying to ruin the Myers thread either but dont you think if we keep having injuries in the secondary they will be more inclined to promise a non franchise rather than sign a free agent? jmo

Any word on who actually was put into the #1 C spot? Also, any more details on what set Kubiak off? Who was he mad at; a player or a coach?
It'll be interesting to see who posts what in the various blogs this afternoon.

based on what? Shouldn't we see him play before we pigeonhole him as a guy 'not ready'?

No.

He's not ready. I think not therefore he isn't.

Something may be lot in the translation.

Got mad because he saw Richard Justice over there.

Did Justice really take delight in Kubiak getting angry at practice? Uggh.

ready or not here it (season) comes. Gibbs has worked to develop players into versatile multiple faceted position players capabale of filling in while another is injured. should be interesting. wish the Meyers family all the best & hope its really nothing after all.....:specnatz:

Watching the kid play the last few days allows me to say he is not ready yet. That said I have seen progress from the young man already. He has been working as the 2nd team OC while White was worked at Guard. Now the injury to Pitts' has changed the reps and that may have do do with White playing guard

I'm sorry. Ok let me rephrase that. I'm not sure he's ready. Smart ass.

See, I KNEW something would be lost in translation.

790 reported that when Myers went down he started screaming in pain before he fell. Was holding his ankle area.

They also said Kubiak was the most pissed off they've ever seen, saying the goalline plays were the sloppiest he's ever seen

well I got the answer to one of my questions from John McClain...

I've seen Gary Kubiak chew out players on the field. I've seen him jump on them off the field. He does it when he believes they deserve it.

I hadn't seen Kubiak go ballistic about his players until after today's morning practice. He was fuming becaue he considered it a terrible practice. He thought the players were sloppy and that center Chris Myers' injury in which a teammate rolled on his leg could be attributed to sloppy play.

After each practice, Kubiak gathers his players and coaches and other team personnel around him in the middle of the field. He let them have it. Then he did the same when he met with reporters. I imagine this means they'll have a spirited afternoon practice.

Light 'em up Kubes. Sloppy teams don't make the playoffs. ...and we should know.

Guess I'll have to wait until this evening to find out the other answer... ...who stepped in for Myers.

Hopefully not serious. Let's see what the Caldwell kid has in the meantime. Hey Vinny, I used to see you on the HPF.com website. What happened to that site? Anyway, hope Myers is OK, God knows we need to avoid injuries.:fans:

HPF.com got shut down a while ago. I think the message board here kind of usurped the need there. They were a great source of information and had some great articles.

And nice to see you here... these are a hospitable bunch. I made the jump about 2 yrs ago.

Mike

*EDIT* I didn't realize keith was still writing. Cool to know.

Hope Myers is alright but it doesn't sound good hearing about the scream. I read he put on 10-15 lbs and I was looking forward to seeing him in action.

On another note, is Kubiak angry because both sides of the ball were sloppy today or did the defense get the best of the offense again? I keep reading about how well the D is looking and I wonder if Kubiak is expecting the offense to cruise a bit more easily?

nice to see you around. Ric ran the HPF site but didn't continue it but Keith still blogs on at inthebullseye and actually has the twitter bug to boot.

I've been a Caldwell-soon type guy but this isn't how I wanted it to go. Myers is a decent enough guy to play I just think his game has a big hole. Hopefully Caldwell can shine in this opportunity. He's got as much shot to step in and do well now as any rookie.

I hope all is well, ankle injuries are tough on the big fellas.

Maybe on calls but I'll go with my broken record , throw down answer . If you can play at a high level in the SEC ... you can play .

Caldwell play well for the Tides, but he did not play at a high level consistently to be a starter in the NFL yet, from what I saw he played at Alabama.

That line worked well because of Andre Smith and Mike Johnson (a Jr LG, Pro Football Weekly First Team All-American last year, pre-season All SEC this year) more than due to Caldwell, I am sorry to say.

The best SEC Center, IMO, might have been one of the Pouncey twins at Fla; he was a Soph.

If you watch enough Alabama football, you would hear the announcers often mentioning about their ability to run off-LG or off-LT.
The RT D. Davis was a Jr and was pretty good (team offensive player of the week twice, team Iron Man Award last year, Offensive Lineman Award in Spring game 2009).
The RG M. Davis was a Sr and played quite decent (got a couple of workouts for NFL teams, signed with the Browns but later left the team for some unknown reason).
And then, there was Glen Coffee who manufactured some yards on his own.
The other RB Mark Ingram wasn't too shabby either. Upchurch, too, until he got hurt.
Their QB was JP Wilson, a Sr with 3 yr starting experience.
He was a smart QB who can make quick decision.
He's not VY, but can be pretty mobile to avoid the rush.
They also had good receivers.
Watch for Julio Jones this year. Their TE Walker was also pretty decent. And the small WR Maze, too.
So Caldwell was helped a lot by his teammates.

The good thing is that he's still raw in techniques.
The sooner he can learn to improve his techniques (both hands and footwork), the sooner he can raise his game.
How soon, we don't know. But here's his chance!

Maybe White is all that. Maybe Caldwell is all that... I don't know.

I know Myers had issues, but personally, I would feel better knowing that we'll be building on what we did last year, than starting all over with a "new" center.

We're still developing on all 5 OL positions, with maybe the exception of LG. I don't think we need a new center now.

Nothing against Caldwell, but we haven't established a foundation on OL yet.
