HTE: So when is your report date again? Are you flying Sunday the 14th?

Barwin: No. I'm actually driving down there so I can bring all my stuff and be there for good. I'll be getting there next weekend and will meet with Coach Kollar and hammer everything out to get ready and then we have (mandatory minicamp) on the 15th which is Monday.
**
Then just this past week I went down to UGA (Georgia) and trained with David Pollack (three-time All American at Georgia and 1st round pick of the Bengals in 2005 whose NFL career was cut short due to a neck injury). I worked out with him and learned a lot just picking his brain and watching film with him and the UGA defensive line coach. I just want to get myself in the best shape possible and take what may seem like a disadvantage (not being able to report to the Texans on-time) and turn it into a positive so I can be ready for minicamp on June 15.

Our second-round pick has kinda been off of the radar do to that quirky quarter-format arrangement they've got at his school. Well here's a good update provided by way of an interview by the Examiners Alan Burge.

Barwin is one of my favorites. I was a fan of him all last year, and an pumped he is on the Texans. I really feel that he can become a double digit sack guy in a couple years. I expect 7-8 this year. And what the hell, a TD as well.

Nice to hear he is trying to get in some work on his own when he can.

"HTE: Texans fans may not know that you were a very good special teams player last year at Cincinnati. Talk about that a little bit.

Barwin: Yeah, last year I had three blocked punts. That was kind of my specialty so hopefully the Texans will find a way to put me in on field goals and punts so I can make some plays like I did in college."

Yet another new dimension Mr. Versatility adds to our team!!! If we can get an athlete like Barwin on special teams forcing opposing units to gameplan quicker and hopefully less accurate punts and FGs because he's been blocking punts and FGs then that gives us a tremendous advantage!!!

this is an example of excellent reporting. :)

what really strikes me is Barwin's intelligence & drive to prepare to win a starting position. :texflag:

No wait just a damn second. A player busting his ass in the offseason? what a novel concept. If nothing else he knows what to say and seems to be very well spoken. Love it.

I was pumped when the Texans Drafted Barwin. I hope Frank Bush moves him around and is able to utalize his speed. It is going to be nice having a legit speed rusher on this team to compliment all our power guys!!

Hope he does not break a hand working on a bag or on a sparring partner's head. I expect Smith will suggest he no longer box.

HTE: We are forever grateful to Bob McNair for bringing the NFL back to Houston and this city is so ready for playoff football again, it's ridiculous. We're excited that we have you guys coming in to be a part of this.

Barwin: I'll assure you that I'll do everything that I can to get after that playoff game right away and I mean that. I talked to (Brian) Cushing and he feels the same way. The defense has been upgraded and we're excited about playing with the other guys on that defense because it's very talented already. We'll do everything we can, I'll assure you that. http://www.examiner.com/x-778-Houst...9m6d5-Catching-up-with-Connor-Barwin--Part-II
