These are the players that I would take if I were the GM, not necessarily the players that I think the Texans will pick. God only knows what players Smith and Kubiak will choose, it's a scary thought. I did this with no trade down scenarios since they are so unpredictable.
1. Darius Butler-CB, 5'11" and 183 lbs. runs 4.41, Dunta is still a major question mark, will he stay healthy, will he be any good next season, will he be better than he was last season, will he pull his head out of his butt and come back to reality regarding the contract offered (it was more than generous), and if he is any good does he even want to sign with the Texans longterm? Butler may be a little reach but I believe that you select players best for your team and don't go by the draft positional opinion of the so call experts. If they were any good they'd be working for an NFL team and not writing about the draft. The 2 best man coverage corners are Alphonso Smith, and Darius Butler and Butler is alot faster and a couple inches taller. I think he'll be a good CB, and will offer insurance and leverage in the Dunta negotiations. I know he's not the most popular pick but he makes the most sense. Besides we've addressed the D-line and LB's in FA and haven't touched the secondary, it only makes sense that we'll address it early in the draft. Second choice pick is Brian Cushing-LB, but he's got question marks around him and I'm not sold on any of the USC LB's.
2. William Moore-SS/FS, 6'00" and 221 lbs. runs 4.49, I think Patrick Chung will be gone and Kubiak likes players that can play more than one position and Moore can handle both Safety positions and also adds some size and toughness to our secondary as well as some possible play making ability. Second choice is Andy Levitre-OG, best OG available for our system.
3. Antoine Caldwell-C, 6'03" and 309 lbs. runs 5.23, We've addressed D-line and LB's in FA and have now addressed the secondary, it's time to make the O-line better. I was originally going to pick Trevor Canfield here but Caldwell offers the versatility of playing both C and G and he's got the size and athleticism to play the ZBS and we need help on this O-line. He could replace Brisiel and backup Myers. Second choice is Chip Vaughn-SS, very good speed and size but may not be available in the 3rd round.
4a. James Davis-RB, 5'11" and 211 lbs. runs 4.43, good size and speed, runs with some power and fits our ZBS perfectly. I'd actually prefer Andre Brown but he'll be gone by now. Second choice is Antone Smith-RB, not the size we've been talking about but great speed and a down hill running style and very quick, he'd be great in the ZBS as well.
4b. David Bruton-FS, 6'02" and 219 lbs. runs 4.46, this guy has great speed, size and hitting ability he will be a special teams star until he's ready to start in 2010. Second choice Mark Parson-CB, good man coverage CB and great value in the 4th.
5. Deandre Levy-LB, 6'02" and 236 lbs. runs 4.56, good size and speed and will add depth to the LB's. This might be a little early for him but I think he'll develope and be a good value and depth pick and good on special teams. Second choice Greg Isdaner-OG, good depth and already plays the ZBS.
6. Henry Melton-DE, he's 6'04" and 269 lbs. runs 4.65 pretty good for someone his size and will be good rotational DE speed rusher on passing 3rd downs when we move Antonio Smith inside. Second choice, I thought of Roy Miller-DT but he seems to be moving up lately and probably won't be available in the 6th so it's Lydon Murtha-OT great speed for an OT and will add youth and depth on the O-line.
7. Dan Gronkowski-TE, 6'06" and 255 lbs. runs 4.78 good blocking TE that should come in handy on short yardage and goal like situations. Second choice Aaron Perez-P, good punter and as big as a LB, and will be alot cheaper than Turk.
