Intelligent and good character guys.

While its impossible to look into our crystal ball and see who the Texans will pick, we can break down the prospects and try to determine who they will target.

I hear this every year about our draft class and our free agents. They are either good character guys, or intelligent and good character guys.

So using this small piece of information, does anyone want to guess who will get crossed of the list, or bumped up the list due to their character and brain?

Hmm hard to say...If Andre Smith were to fall at 15, I don't really think the Texans would take him(poor work habit). He may not even make other teams motivated enough to jump up and get him...as of now.

I disagree with this part of your post. Unless he goes out & kills someone, he's got too much talent to be passed over by every team. I doubt he gets out of the top 10, but if he managed to make it to #15, Rick should be able to drum up enough offers to net us some real value for him. That's assuming, we don't take him.

curious if Rick Smith/Gary Kubiak took him what position do you think he'd play for the Texans?

I'm saying as of now(before Pro Day)...You know he may have a great Pro Day, though If he wasn't ready for the combine, alot of teams may question what motivates this guy...he was reported out of shape, and made an excuse about trying to get an agent(or something to that effect). Again if he falls to us, are their gonna be some teams willin' to pay (pick 15 $$$) on this guy AND give up subsequent rd pick or picks for this guy...at this juncture I say no. Andre needs to show the NFL that he's worthy of his EARLY 1st rd draft status and I'm sure GM's around the league will be watching. till then....

I could see him fighting it out with Brown & Winston at LT & RT, with the loser (in a manner of speaking) moving to RG. It's my belief that it's easier to move a tackle to guard than it is to move a guard to tackle.

Im hoping this is part of the decision making. It is very likely Clay Mathews could be our pick if it is. The plusses for him just keep adding up IMO. Intelligent, check. High character, check. Hard worker, check. Team oriented player, check. Versatile, check. Plays a position of need, (DE) check, (OLB) check. Great bloodline, check. Throw in his uncle was arguably the best Houston Oiler of all time is now part of the coaching staff and could mentor him and you have a winner. :photos: Im calling it right now. In the 2009 NFL draft the Houston Texans select: Clay Mathews JR, OLB/DE USC.

I've gone on record as saying he would be an elite NFL LG for a team that correctly positions him. meaning, in Texans terms Pitts would make the move to RG. the OL would look like LT Duane Brown, LG Andre Smith, C Chris Meyers, RG Chester Pitts, RT Eric Winston. I think this would balance the run game equally well to both sides as Andre is a road grader with athletic ability to kick out with Brown.

that being said just idle talk, no way he slides to #15 just look @ those FA numbers for OL, teams have to spend high picks to address these needs to be competitive you have to win the war in the trenches.
