Let me start this off by saying I'm not a draft guy. And this is all pretty much wishful thinking but...

My off season dream would be:

First I'd franchise Dunta and see if he'll play on a one year deal to prove my investment in his future to be worth it. I tell him if he plays well I will reward him handsomely.

-On draft day trade back a few spots to like 18-20 and pick up an extra 3rd. I'd then trade that first rounder for Julius Peppers.....If we couldn't get Peppers then I'd settle for Everette Brown out of Florida State.



-With my second round pick I'd take a safety. (Patrick Chung or Sean Smith)

-My third round picks Would be Rashad Jennings and Clay Mathews

-My fourth round pick would be a DT. (Chris Baker or Dorell Scott)

-Fifth round I'd take another RB/FB type player (Herb Donaldson;Western Illinois)

-Sixth...CB (Cary Harris, USC)

-Seventh...QB (Brian Johnson, Utah)

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on FA's this year...I'd try to get Peppers and sign him to a nice contract, then I'd hold onto the rest of that money to wheel and deal next off-season when we need to make a decision on D-rob and possibly re-new the contracts of some of the young contributors to the team.

Im moving more and more into the FA DE camp. Rookie defensive ends take too many years to develop into dominant pass rushers, so I'd gladly trade away a 1st rounder for a guy like Peppers. I don't want to wait 2 years for a serious playoff push. I want to content next year

LBs and DBs seem to be able to contribute much quicker

I don't think the team would draft 2 safetys (although if they did I'd be happy with any of those you named). Clay Matthews will not make the 3rd round.

I don't mind franchising Dunta, and I don't hink the team could afford both D-Rob and Peppers (add to that I don't hink Peppers would help the Panthers by doing a sign and trade, the man wants his money from being a FA).

I don't think we would need to use a first for Peppers, he's a free agent, and I don't think he has been franchised has he?

Now that we've saved some money on cutting Green and Greenwood, I can really see the Texans franchising Dunta. As for Peppers, I have a feeling he'll get the tag, so trading for him IS a viable option.

As for the safety, I personally think we could use an upgrade at SS AND FS, so neither of those players are a problem for me.

Either the Panthers will tag him or wh will sign with another team. Why would he sign with the Panthers for anything less then what he could get if they tagged him? Carolina cannot trade him unless they sign him first.

If they franchised him he would most likely be untradable for that kind of salary. I would love to have Peppers and I like Polo's idea of trading for him, but now way would it be after they franchised him and he'd be getting paid like 17 Mill. That would be way to much money.

How I see it is that the Panthers franchise him just so they could get some kind of compensation for him. Either they would be Franchising him so they could be the sole team able to offer him a contract, or they would Franchise him so they could trade him...I doubt that they just let him walk...I defintely look for him to be Franchised at some point whether he likes it or not.

After he was hypothetically traded, the team getting him would more than likely give him a new contract. That'd be part of the whole deal.

That's why he would have to approve of the team he was being traded to.

I like the idea. With drafting a new guy you never know who could be a bust like Travis Johnson. At least with Peppers you know that you're getting a stud at DE. Some people think that Peppers will tank it somewhat if he gets a huge deal, but I don't think he would if he were to play on the other side of Mario. I think that would motivate the hell out of him to make himself and Mario the best DE tandem ever.

I doubt that your little dream will ever happen though. The Texans just aren't that aggressive. It would be nice though.

Not sure why folks assume it has to be multiple high picks or heck even a high pick. From the Panthers' perspective anything is better than nothing. And what is "all of that cap room?"--he will sign a market value contract somewhere. Is he not one of the better DE's around?--then he will get paid like one. That will still be considerably less than the $17 mil tag. I don't particularly want the Texans to be the team to do it, but someone will try to get him. The $17 mil tag price may drive down how hard the Panthers negotiate.

I don't know, one of the few trades involving a tagged player got the Seahawks 2 1st round pciks for Joey Galloway.

I agree that he'll get paid like a top 5 defensive player, but I wouldn't sacrifice the cap space and whatever it'll take to free him from the Panthers.

If he gets tagged, he could easily refuse all trades and get paid the 17 million and be a free agent the next year. That's a hell of a lot of money for any football player to make in a year.

It couldn't be that the Texans would have to pony up alot of money to sign a difference maker or two on the defensive side of the ball?

It's not like the Texans are one of the top 10 franchises financially speaking in all of sports & they have the cap room to spend money on a top tier FA.

Come on Uncle Bob spend the money.

By the way I'm not sure I would sign Peppers.
