Utah vs Alabama

Jeez, Utah just drove down and scored a TD on the Alabama defense as if they weren't even there.
Pisses me off. TCU had them beat and dominated their game. One drive killed them. But I guess I should cheer for them to pump up the MWC standing and TCU should be Top 10 too after their win.

I've watched so much college football this week if I get lucky tonight I'm sure a fight song would soon follow.

Utah's kicking some early booty.

Did Reeves go to Alabama?:)

This is amazing. I didnt think Utah had a chance in hell. This is exactly why they need a playoff system.

Utah looks so much better than Bama. Would have been nice to see a playoff and see what Utah could have done.

This couldn't happen to a better guy (Saban). I hope this tail-kicking continues.

I've been keeping an eye on Terrence Cody. Very unimpressed so far. On Utah's 2nd TD, Cody was man-to-man with a Utah O-lineman, and got pushed back - and they ran it right by him for a TD. He also isn't getting double-teamed very much, which I thought was a given for a guy of his size.

I was thinking the same thing at the same time. Well, that and "the Rockets suck tonight."

I thought that was a pushoff by the Utah WR on that third TD. I've noticed that the refs don't really call that anymore.

I don't care though, Go Utah!

Alabama has yet to show up tonight and to stay in the game they just need to keep giving them a good dose of coffee. I picked Utah to win in college pick em as well as an office pool. Utah has all the momentum right now and this is starting to look like the Boise State v Oklahoma game right now. TCU also beat a team that was really good this year in Boise State and I thought Boise should have been in instead of tOSU

Andre Johnson does it all the time too - the refs aren't going to call that crap unless it's a REALLY SOLID shove. If it's just handfighting or a little shove like that one and the one that AJ's perfected - they're not going to call it, and I'm good with that. You have to take as much advantage of the rules as the refs will allow.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Utah, it's a truly beautiful state (and BTW, its easier to get a drink up there than it is in N.Texas - no "local option"), but these guys don't look like all the Mormons I saw and got acquainted with up there ? Must be recruiting in CA ?

I only saw the 4th qtr of the game... was the Utah defense always in Bama's face all game long? Because if it was, that was mighty impressive!

Yeah, pretty much. Not only was their starting LT suspended - but the guy who replaced him left the game fairly early with an injury - so they had a third-stringer in at LT.

The entire left side of their offensive line was out and they had a true Freshman RT in the game because of it.

Saban is one of the top colllege coaches in the country. No need to knock him. Cody didn't get many snaps because of the offense that Utah ran. Cody played on running downs and I couldn't remember a 3rd down that he was in on. When Cody was in the game though, Utah had no answer. They couldn't run the ball. Cody isn't going to get much QB pressure, but he definitely controlled the LOS when he was in. He needs to work on conditioning to be a better player though. He needs to be on the field at all times. Also, Alabama had zero pass rush all game from the front 4.

I missed a lot of that. I saw Cody get pushed around by a guy smaller than him for Utah's 2nd TD - they ran right at him and scored.

That's not to say I'm down on Cody - I just didn't see a whole lot from him in THIS game.

There's plenty of need for me to knock Saban. I don't like the way he carries himself or the way he conducts business. He's a great coach - no doubt. He might be the best in college football - doesn't mean I can't knock him. I generally don't like militaristic coaches, and he's certainly one.

Looks like Andre Smith was extremely important to that Bama offense.

Utes get 8 sacks on John Parker Wilson.
franchise tackles usually are.

What message is Sabin sending? A) innocent before proven guilty. B) nobody is bigger than Alabama Football. C) protection against NCAA fines & penalties. D) teaching young Mr. Smith a lesson on who's the boss.

IMO, USC's woulda coulda shoulda argument went down the drain with the Sugar Bowl. Penn State is no Alabama and undefeated is just that, undefeated.

The Mountain West, right now, is better than the ACC. Playoffs aren't coming any time soon(and apparently, you can blame ESPN and the TV contracts for that) so they should at least make the MWC a BCS confrence.

I dont know about that since you ahve had both a WAC and MWC in BCS games two times each. I think they need to move some of the top teams from each of those conferences and then make that new one a BCS conference

Sorry guys-

Grew up in Utah. Father went to Utah and got us tickets to basketball and football games. Saw Jim McMahon play when very young. Steve Young shortly thereafter (McMahon/Young BYU QB's). Saw the battles that I remember the most from Scott Mitchell and Ty Detmer.

I went to TCU. I loved TCU. But my heart will always be with Utah, considering their fanbase, tailgating, and devotion.

They let the world know tonight how BS the rankings are. Some teams are better than the other, and Utah plain shocked the world.

This team is better than the Urban Meyer team. They are devoted without any standout players. They are a team. A TEAM.

I've never been so proud of my Utes as I have been tonight.

Take that BCS. And take that the so called "experts".

Arizona's win over BYU made BYU look weak and I evern had BYU to blow them out. I could almost remove some teams from other conferences to as well to make room

I dunno is the SEC (and the Big 12 to, for sure) that overrated or is Utah that underrated ?
Alabama played like it wanted to be in the championship or nothing at all. And Utah had everything to play for.

Also that OL of Alabama last night was not even close to the OL they had this whole season. Smith really screwed his team by getting suspended.

Both.

Alabama should have never been #1.
The scary thing about Alabama's season is that they weren't supposed to be good this year. This wasn't supposed to be their year. They were supposed to do this next year, when their young talent was ready. That's the scary thing; next year was supposed to be their year.

Fair enough. I might have missed that. I saw him play pretty well most of the game, but he did not get to play much because of the no-huddle offense and the high volume passing attack. I was hoping to see more from him this game as well.

Also, Julio Jones is the best WR in the nation, not Crabtree. I've been strong in this all year.

But is that forecast predicated on Smith and Cody being back?

This is why the BCS needs to go and payoffs need to happen. Look at 1-AA and you saw an unranked Richmond Spider team not even conference winning team get super freaking hot in the playoffs and win the whole thing.

I don't think anyone is or was expecting Smith to return. I think most experts were and are expecting Cody to return. Julio Jones and McClain are back. I want to say that Arenas is back. They have been hauling in top recruiting classes with Saben, and those are supposed to start paying off next year.
